Welcome to The Haven...upscale, interior spaces including all new kitchen and baths. Featuring double master suites on the main floor, this large Pelican Point duplex home is a popular vacation choice because of its privacy, spaciousness, high quality furnishings, and stunning views. Shaped by wind and water, the southern end of Harbor Island is constantly changing vista of sea and sand, marsh and creek, sky and light. Here, the tidal waters of Johnson’s Creek flow to the Atlantic to create this very private, quiet, natural, area of the Island that is perfect for kayaking, shrimping and fishing, digging for clams, gathering muscles, and, of course, crabbing. A beautiful tidal marsh lies between the home and the ocean and is a favorite fishing ground for dolphin, herons, egrets, and other shore birds. A minute’s walk over a very short boardwalk adjacent to the home takes you to a narrow strip of shoreline abutting the marsh overlooking Hunting Island, Johnson’s Creek, and beyond to the beautiful Atlantic.

This property is exceptionally well furnished and appointed and comes complete with books and games to make your coastal retreat complete. A high-end HVAC system provides central air and heat with humidifier and air cleaner to enhance your comfort. Recent updates include completely remodeled kitchen and baths, fresh painting in all rooms, new area rugs, new high end living area furniture, accessories, and bedding.

The Haven conveniently offers two master bedroom suites on the main floor, and two additional bedrooms on the second floor, sleeping a total of eight with a queen in each of the four bedrooms. There is also an LL Bean portable Easy Cot to expand sleeping options. The cot is 17' high x 30' wide x 79' long and can accommodate up to 330 pounds.

On the main floor, the ocean side master is located at the rear of the home with gorgeous views over the ocean marsh to the Atlantic, and opens into the ocean view screened porch off of the living area. This master bedroom features a completely renovated private bath with an oversized walk-in shower. The second master bedroom is at the front of the home with views of another beautiful tidal marsh. The remodeled bath for the second master offers a new tub/shower combination. A strategically placed pocket door allows you to close off this bath and bedroom to form a master suite, or if you prefer you can leave the pocket door open allowing general access to that bath.

The second floor offers a full guest bath, and two large bedrooms. Each of the upstairs bedrooms provides a beautiful view. The upstairs rear bedroom directly faces the ocean and the ocean marsh. A chaise lounge nestled beneath the large windows beckons you to stretch out for hours with your favorite beach book. The second upstairs bedroom is oriented toward the ever changing tidal marsh at the front of the home, and features a deep, comfy arm chair as well as a cable television. The remodeled second floor guest bath offers a tub/shower combination.

The spacious living area is complete with a 42” LCD flat screed TV, a sound system with IPod docking station, and a working fireplace. A high speed wireless Internet connection and free long distance calling to US and Canada are included with your rental! In the dining area, a hand woven Persian rug below and chandelier above set off the dining table where you can comfortably seat eight. The dining area is open to the family kitchen which, boasts granite countertops, a high-end ceramic top stove, high-end stainless steel GE French door refrigerator, new stainless steel dishwasher, and all new solid maple cabinetry. Also provided are practical but fun items like a waffle maker and a slow cooker. Tableware--both patterned and white, along with cloth napkins and coordinating bake/serve dishes, will accentuate the great meals you'll enjoy cooking in this kitchen. Kitchenware includes a nice big pot for boiling or steaming and a dozen Lowcountry cookbooks for inspiration.

As the second to last home in Pelican Point, on the southern end of Harbor Island, this location is very much a “get away from it all” spot providing a romantic setting or a relaxing family atmosphere where you can reconnect with the kids. And every room offers a beautiful low country view! Panoramic ocean-oriented views can be enjoyed from the living area, dining area, screened porch, rear main floor master, and rear upstairs guest bedroom while the other two bedrooms enjoy views of an expansive tidal marsh at the front of the home. The front porch also overlooks that marsh and is a great spot for relaxing on the swing or in one of the rocking chairs, to watch the changing marsh scene with its abundant birdlife, or catch the sun going down for the day.

For your enjoyment and comfort, The Haven also provides a Char-broil propane gas grill and an outdoor hot/cold shower. Your reservations include use of our “crab gear”: crab lines and weights, dip net, tongs (crabs are indeed crabby, and love to pinch!) and a sturdy bucket to carry home your catch. And your rental includes full access to the Harbor Island Beach & Racquet Club where you will find an Olympic sized pool overlooking the marshes of the Harbor River, a kiddie wading pool, a sand volleyball court, tennis court, small sundries shop, fitness center and more.

All of us had a wonderful time - we enjoyed the beach, fishing, shopping, and cooking in the awesome kitchen. The girls had wonderful fishing experiences! We really enjoyed our special family time together. We will cherish the memories.

Quiet Family Vacation

Absolutely wonderful! This is the perfect place to get away from it all and that's EXACTLY what we needed! Situated about 20 minutes past Beaufort, this getaway is somewhat conveniently located between Savannah (1.25hr) & Charleston (2hr)--perfect for a day trip if you've had enough R & R. However, Beaufort was our favorite day trip as it's close, quaint & packed full of history! Even closer by, we visited Hunting Island and its lighthouse and beach--the forest is beautiful! Not to be outdone, there was plenty to do just outside our door, whether it was walking the beach, fishing, exploring the marsh or watching the birds. However, my personal favorite spot was the screened porch, where I could be found pretty much anytime we were home (except when I was sleeping.) Its the perfect place to catch the sea breezes, listen to the waves, watch the tides roll in and out and view some wildlife.

The Haven was just that, our haven for the week. Every time we went out, the kids just wanted to go back and relax (ok, maybe they had enough history lessons too ;)) Regardless, the Haven provided everything we could possibly need and there was plenty of room to spread out (2 adults, 3 teenagers.) The décor and amenities are top notch. The owners really made this feel like a home, not a rental property, and we really appreciated that!

This was our first visit to the South Carolina low country, and we cannot wait to go back! If you crave a nice quiet vacation away from all the other vacationers, this is the place for you! You will not be disappointed!

Family vacation

We were five adults and two children (aged 7 and 4). I cannot thank you enough for allowing us to use your beautiful home! The phrase most often used over and over by everyone was "This is the best vacation EVER!!!!!" The house is beautifully maintained and immaculate. There was so much to do and see for all of us. We bought fresh seafood at Gay's and garden fresh vegetables at the local stands everyday. Would very highly recommend staying here. Savannah and Beaufort are beautiful historic towns to visit.

The Sanctuary at Cat Island

Harbor Island is a great place for nature watching. Dolphin are frequently seen off our shores, egrets and herons nest in our rookeries and alligators prowl the impounded lagoons. The entire island is an Audubon Designated Important Bird Area: more than 170 different kinds of birds either live here or migrate through our island every year! Harbor Island is a gated beach community with almost three miles of natural beaches. You will have access to the Beach and Racquet Club tennis courts, fitness center, and swimming pool overlooking the marshes of the Harbor River. There is also a kiddie pool and a playground for the children. You may never want to leave the island, but if you would like to see the sights, just 14 miles away is beautiful, historic Beaufort. Located on the Intracoastal Waterway, Beaufort offers a wide variety of restaurants, art galleries and shops, historic tours and horse drawn carriage rides through streets lined with antebellum homes and graceful live oaks. The waterfront park downtown is a must-see. Harbor Island is ideally situated for day trips: a little over an hour from Savannah and Savannah International Airport, one hour from Hilton Head Island and Hilton Head Airport, and approximately two hours from historic Charleston.
