Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

It is 3 houses from the bay and a short walk to the ocean. It's unusual in that it is entirely on the ground floor because of being situated on two lots which allows for a large gated & locked back yard. In the yard is an outdoor barbecue, table and chairs and plenty of space for bicycles, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc. It's a safe place for small children or pets. The rental is very clean with wood & tile floors & on site parking for two regular size vehicles. An added parking bonus is the parking in the jetty lots on the ocean and bay side of Mission Blvd. a short walk from the rental. The beach at Aspin Ct. and Bayside Walk is excellent for young children plus there is a small playground next to the bay beach area. At the jetty park on the ocean side there are volleyball courts, a basketball court, and an excellent board surfing area in addition to the miles of an excellent beach for sunbathing, body surfing, boogie boarding and family beach going. For those who enjoy bicycle riding there are miles of biking along either Ocean Front Walk or Bayside Walk. The rental includes beach chairs, umbrellas, beach towels, bikes, a surfboard, boogie boards and a beach wagon for hauling things to and from the beach.

About Mary Willmont

My late ex-husband & I loved the beach, especially beach volleyball. We moved here in 1958 and I never left. I've been very active in the community all those years. I enjoy walking to Mission Beach Coffee Shop, visiting with friends & neighbors there in addition to walking along the shoreline in the early mornings. I especially like that SMB is still very much a community.

Mary Willmont purchased this apartment in 1968

Why Mary Willmont chose San Diego County

Although an older property, it offers a number of advantages such as being located in the prime part of So. MB, a large back yard, ample on site parking, for 2 regular size cars, close proximity to overnight parking in the the two jetty parks, & great neighbors. What I love most about this property is that it has character and is comfortable.

What makes this apartment unique

I'm considered the Doris Day of SMB because I allow dogs. The back yard is enclosed & secure. The unit is my home which I rent out occasionally throughout the year.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a bargain and what a great place for children and our dog! We liked it because it is an older place, not one of the newer three story places which have been the fashion to build in Mission Beach over the last number of years, and because of that it's very family friendly without people above you or stairs to climb. Having a back yard to hang out in was great, and having two parking places made us feel like royalty in South Mission Beach. I especially liked how clean it was and spacious for a beach house.

A personal place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our two children stayed at this lovely little cottage last month and we had such a wonderful time. Mary was warm and welcoming to us. At first I thought I would feel really weird living in her home while she stayed elsewhere, but actually staying in a home made our vacation feel so personal and special. The location really could not have been better for us; 2 small blocks away from the gorgeous bay, and 5 minutes from the ocean, my kids learned how to wheel the wagon loaded with towels and buckets to the bay themselves, and felt so grown-up! Overall, staying in this home helped us feel like we actually lived at the beach for a short time and that was magical for us!

Our damage deposit was returned within a week of our return with no problems.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

I go to Mission Beach every summer, but with a large group of people, but this Spring I decided to just take my 2 teenage sons and our 2 small dogs. This house is very pet friendly with a great small backyard that is enclosed. The parking is great, it backs right up to the door that leads into the kitchen area. The house is very cozy and very "Mission Beach" My boys loved the couch....very comfy to sleep on. The bed was also very comfortable and I fell asleep easily. Walking distance to the beach and bay, and what is nice is from 6pm to 9am you can bring your dogs to either one to play in the water. South Mission Beach is quieter and quaint. There are markets and some restaurants within walking distance from the house. We had an awesome time and will definately stay again. The owner Mary is very friendly and takes pride in her home.
