Why Stephanie Joy Johnson chose Arden

I am passionate about living in these awesome Smokey Mountain & Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina and adore sharing my vacation rental homes with guests who come to experience our area’s mountains & towns. I take exquisite care of my properties and am available anytime to see to your needs. I make sure each home is exceptionally clean, meticulously well-maintained and the hot tub sparkling with fresh water.

I have lived in Asheville, North Carolina for many years and find great joy in discovering more and more reasons why this is the BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO LIVE! Asheville is consistently in the “Top 10 Places To Live” according to almost any criterion published! It’s a diverse multi-cultural blend of mountain folk and cosmopolitan society set in a dramatically beautiful mountain setting. It is my heart-felt desire to provide gorgeous welcoming homes in spectacular settings and to share this town with you!

What makes this lodge unique

With all the special touches, I promise you that my vacation rental homes will feel as though you are staying at a friend’s warm inviting home rather than a 'vacation rental house. You will appreciate the tasteful decor and thoughtful care my homes reflect. Each home has been lovingly remodeled, elegantly furnished, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully accessorized with special amenities to pamper you including massage chairs, hot tubs, high speed wireless Internet, king beds with sumptuous bedding, HDTV’s & DVD's, movie libraries, quality well-equipped kitchens, fireplaces, central heat & air conditioning, washers & dryers and much more!

Unique to my homes are all the amenities offered for babies and children. There are cribs, pack-n-plays, strollers, high chairs, baby bath tubs, stuffed animals & blankies. Older children love to play on the outdoor playgrounds with forts, slides, swings, climbing walls, etc. plus games, books, toys, kids DVD movies and more. Kids of all ages love to roast marshmallow at the firepits.

My homes are easily accessed, right in-town, close to grocery stores, restaurants and shopping. No winding mountain roads to get lost in or long drives to town. The homes are in peaceful, lush vacation spots where you can relax and feel at home.

Rather than dealing with a third party management company with limited business hours & knowledge of a home, you can deal directly with me, the owner. I am available to you 7 days-a-week, anytime between 9 AM and 7 PM and after hours for emergencies. I know my properties intimately because I have personally had them restored, remodeled, furnished and equipped. YOU are my full time business! Because I live locally, I am available whenever you call.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a group of 14 stay here at Mountain Laurel Lodge. Ages ranged from mid-sixties to 4 months old. The house was large enough that we could each retreat into our own corners or mix & mingle in the main living areas. The kids enjoyed the toys & hanging out in the master suite's living area watching movies. The main bedrooms all being on the entry level was nice especially since one member of our party has knee trouble and can't easily climb stairs. Beautiful decor, very clean and welcoming!

We loved Stephanie's Julian Lake Lodge. It is spacious and comfortable, clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed the amenities, including the spa, fire pit and playground for the kids. The lake view is fantastic. We will definitely recommend this home to our friends.

A Wonderful Week in a Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

The house was in a quiet spot surrounded by trees and looking out on the lake. It accommodated our party of 7 adults and 2 young children perfectly. The first floor was set up for children and their parents with a private laundry, refrigerator and television as well as toys and a cute hiding place in the children's bedroom. Upstairs were three large adult bedrooms and a kitchen that was furnished with everything we needed to cook for our group. The outside space had a playground, a hot tub that our children called "the pool" and a fire pit we used to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. The house is near grocery stores, restaurants most of Asheville's activities. we could not have asked for more!

Kid Friendly and Great Jumping Off Point For Area

  • 5 of 5

Picking a house sight-unseen was nerve wracking, and I am happy to say that Stephanie's claims of spoiling her guests lived up to the hype. We had 8 adults and 6 kids, three of them toddlers. The house could not have been better for them. They loved the "kid bedroom" and played in it constantly. There was easy access from the downstairs to the 8-person hot tub which sat next to the playground and firepit. The smooth layout of the house was a savior when entertaining that many children and still relaxing ourselves.

The house itself was very comfortable and felt more like staying with relatives than renting. I especially appreciated the comfortable beds, because I have rented houses where bed comfort was obviously not considered. The kitchen is large, modern, and has all the essential appliances and dishes, and then some. The open floor plan makes it easy to hang out. The massage chair and many TVs with cable were nice bonuses!

We spent our time day-tripping to Dupont Forest, Pisgah Forest, and going into downtown Asheville, which is indeed an easy 10 minute straight drive. It was conveniently located for all these places, and for grocery stores.

The only caveat I will put on this house is don't expect to do more than gaze at the lake - it is the cooling pond for a nearby power plant and is therefore a few degrees hotter than most lakes, making the bacteria count potentially unsafe for swimmers. The description of the house makes it clear that this is a fishing lake, not a swimming lake, so there is no deception, but that is a detail that can be overlooked. If you are looking for a house to stay put at while you play in the water, Lake Lure area is probably your best bet. The lake was beautiful, however, and we enjoyed watching it from the many decks of the house.

Thank you, Stephanie, for your hospitality and we definitely recommend this house.

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We had 2 families of 4 + 2 adult friends meet for a wedding in Asheville and the home we rented from Stephanie was just perfect! Love that she thought of details for the kids (crib, high chair, strollers, etc.) and even made sure there were plenty of towels and blankets. We felt secluded and peaceful on the lake, hanging at the house, sitting by the fire pit, but could be in the action of Asheville in minutes! The house was big enough to spread out on the different decks around the house, down by the lake or even in the hot tub! We were even able to enjoy home cooked meals around the large dining room table!

Stephanie really did think of everything - the place was clean, cool and ready for our arrival! The overall feel of the rental was HOMEY!

Wonderful, relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Julian Lake Lodge for a week and had the most amazing time. The home was beautifully furnished and stocked with everything you could possibly need. There were two washer and dryers which was wonderful. We had a small issue with the HUGE hot tub, made one call and within an hour someone was there and had it fixed, never another issue and enjoyed by everyone. Family came and joined us and at one point there were 14 of us in the home and never did it feel crowded. There was plenty of room for everyone with lots of seating both inside and out. We enjoyed the fire-pit every night and lounged on the deck to watch the pond with morning coffee. Our three granddaughters fished for the very first time (although two of them didn't have hooks because they were too little ;) ) and our grandson had so much fun exploring. So many memories were made. The leaves changed a lot through the week that we stayed adding to the beauty of the woods around us. The location was perfect, while we felt we were deep in the woods there, everything you could possibly need was just a few miles away. Everyone of us commented on how nice this home was and how we look forward to coming back in the future. Sincerely, one of the most relaxing vacations ever.
