About the property

A ROCKAWAY HIDEAWAY has 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Sleeps 8

This is a DOG FRIENDLY home built with consultation and approval of our own dogs – there’s a doggie door leading to the fenced-in backyard AND on to the trail to a clear and inviting creek. But you don’t need a pet to enjoy A ROCKAWAY HIDEAWAY. We’re family friendly too! Large open living area with 30’ ceiling, a stone fireplace with gas logs, a wall of windows for the glorious view and abundant light that leads to a large screened porch. There are TWO Master suites each with king size bed and its own full bath. All hardwood floors on the first level. Separate dining area and the most modern of kitchens. Also on first floor is one of the Master suites and a second bedroom with another full bath and complete laundry room. The second floor is carpeted with a roomy loft that overlooks the first floor. There’s a huge second Master king size suite and full bath upstairs too. This cabin has it all-it’s been beautifully furnished by local high style companies and sleeps up to eight comfortably. There are four Satellite TVs (two 50” and two 27“), a well equipped kitchen, new linens & towels, games, books, DVD library and player, and of course, this is a No Smoking home. We’re in a great location-private but not isolated with easy access on paved roads- only two miles down the mountain (on Fie Top Rd) into Maggie Valley or up two miles to skiing and horseback riding; only 15 minutes to charming Waynesville, ten minutes to Blue Ridge Parkway, twenty to Cherokee Casino, and close enough to Asheville to enjoy all it has to offer. You’ll find hiking trails, fishing, and six nearby golf courses or you can walk down to the creek and campsite whenever you choose. Please visit our virtual tour for more photos!

About Melissa Pless Broker/Property Manager

Jane, Dennis, Mulligan and Lilly live in hot, humid Florida. We are retired and have the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful places in the United States. We were always drawn back to the Smoky Mountains where it is cool and dry in the summertime. Many times the cabins we rented were a little dogeared, outdated or musty. We could never find a new, spacious log cabin that was clean, had high end furnishings..... so we built our own!

Why Melissa Pless Broker/Property Manager chose Maggie Valley

We built in this location because it had two long views and a creek behind the house. It was important that we have paved roads and easy access to our cabin. At 4400' elevation it is usually seven degrees cooler than down in Maggie Valley, or ten degrees cooler than Asheville. If you like your summertime to be in the low 70's than A Rockaway Hideaway is the place for you!

What makes this cabin unique

We are nearly a half mile off the main road. When we are sitting on our front porch we do not have to listen to traffic but rather the sound of the creek. Mulligan can run off leash and have the freedom to be a dog. It is only a half mile up the mountain to the boundry of the Smoky Mountain National Park. This connects to hundreds of miles of trails. Our cabin is close to water falls, elk grazing, skiing, horseback riding and good places to eat.

WARNING for June 2017 - If you are coming from I-40 from the east, TAKE THE ALTERNATE ROUTE - The traffic backs up for hours. The alternate route is not bad & sitting going 4 miles per hour is madness. We have been vacationing in this area for more than 30 years. This year we decided to take the dogs & this house was perfect for accommodating us, the dogs, & was safe for my 1 year old grandson. We loved the porches. We ate meals and played games on the screen porch - the furniture is WOW! I read & napped on the open air porch, enjoying the sun. I hope we can visit again next summer. Excellent house with high end everything, very clean & almost everything you could want in the way of conveniences. My favorite part was that we were not close to anything yet after a 3-4 mile drive down the mountain, we were in Maggie Valley. We ate at Joey's one of the last few days it was open (made us sad.). We especially enjoyed our meal at The Tipping Point on the last night. Make sure you try Kanini's - they supplied us with the best pimiento cheese ever & sinfully delicious desserts. We hiked the trail near the cabin, but the walk around Junaluska was better for taking the baby. The temperature was always at least 10 degrees cooler up the mountain - Love That! Everyone at Premier Rental was great to work with, no problems at all. FINAL WORD OF WISDOM - take your trash down every time you go somewhere. And to recycle, you have to go down Jonathan Creek Road on your way to I-40.

Reviewer Comments:

I have enjoyed visiting this part of North Carolina for many years, but I have to say Rockaway Hideaway is the best place I have ever stayed in this area. I spent a week here in June on a family vacation with my husband, teenage son, senior parents, and two fur babies. We all enjoyed our stay in this beautiful cabin. The proximity to Cataloochee Ranch and the Great Smoky Mountains NP allowed for easy access to horseback riding and hiking. The views at Hemphill Bald were well-worth the hike up the mountainside from the cabin. The small stream behind provided us with a relaxing murmur of running water throughout our stay. This is the kind of place where you can vacation without running around seeking out things to do. Just hanging out here is wonderfully relaxing. We did leave the cabin a few times to eat out or go exploring in locations that were nearby, including Cataloochee Valley (saw a herd of elk), NC Arboretum, Cataloochee Ranch, delicious barbeque at Haywood Smokehouse in Waynesville, and shopping in Maggie Valley. Otherwise, we sat on the screened porch, enjoyed the scenery all around us, and prepared our own meals. We even saw a coyote near the cabin one afternoon. The owners have equipped the cabin with anything you could need to make the stay pleasant for humans and pets. The kitchen is very modern and has all the basics (plus). The internet access is unlimited. The beds and furniture are comfortable. Hiking sticks are provided. Lots of dog-friendly supplies, like throws, bowls, and toys. The weather is also cooler at this elevation than in the valley, a welcome relief from summer heat. We enjoyed using the fireplace (gas logs with blower) a couple of evenings when it was cool outside. Our stay at Rockaway Hideaway was very enjoyable. I definitely plan to vacation here again!

Everything you would need and more. Our family of 6 loved this home and everything it had to offer! We spent Thanksgiving in this cabin and even had everything we needed to make our big feast! Skiing 2 miles up the mountain. Beautiful views. The first drive up was a bit intimidating as it is pretty steep but we got used to it quickly. We will definitely be back next year!
