Waterfront View of Catboat Heaven!

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)

Enjoy a vacation at Cape Cod's sailing mecca. From the south-facing private deck, take in the view of 60 moored sailboats, the majority being custom-built catboats, ranging from boats built in the 1800s to brand new Arey's Pond catboats. Bring your own boat or rent one of ours to put on your private mooring in the pond right off your deck.

The home is located at the edge of a traditional boat yard where boats are still built in the old-fashioned way. The layout provides plenty of privacy from the working boat yard. The house is a well-maintained, recently painted and upgraded, 1950's Cape-style cottage. It's southern facing views towards the pond and a private deck give it a bright and cheerful ambiance.

Take a walk or bicycle to Kent's Point on Pleasant Bay for breathtaking views, or take a short run over to Pilgrim Lake for a freshwater swim. To access the bay by water, navigate your boat from the pond down the Namequoit River for an excursion into Pleasant Bay. From there, you can go to the ocean beach to enjoy the surf, or to an island for a picnic and a swim.

There is a festive seasonal feel to the boat yard during the day as the boats come and go from the pond on their way to or from Pleasant Bay, but by early evening, the pond is all yours for a relaxing sail in a Wooden Beetle Cat, with a bottle of wine, to watch the sun go down.

About The Owner

The owners bought the boat yard in 1991 and lived in the waterfront apartment with their two daughters until recently buying a home on an adjacent lot. The owners share a deep commitment to preserving and protecting the beautiful waters of Arey's Pond and Pleasant Bay. To that end, they have sold land to the Orleans Conservation Trust, and put a portion of their property under Conservation Restriction.

The Owner purchased this house in 1991

Why The Owner chose Orleans

The owners bought this boat yard and the waterfront apartment because of its historic and aesthetic appeal. They are only the third owners of this traditional boat building business located in one of the most beautiful places on Cape Cod, let alone the world.

What makes this house unique

Arey's Pond is an amazing place to view wildlife. In the winter, we enjoy visits by numerous types of seals and sea birds, including Great Blue Herons and Kingfishers, who come to fish. In the summer, Ospreys fish in the pond, and Friends of Arey's Pond has recently installed a nesting pole at the mouth of the river this spring, so we should be seeing an Osprey pair raising their young there soon!

It's great

  • 5 of 5

We again rented the Boat House for 2 weeks starting on 9/6/14. The house is great for adults and the deck was great for our Wine 30 every night. What a view of the Sail boats on the pound. We took walks each morning and enjoyed the peace and quit.

Hope to be back again

Thanks Robin

Take sailing lessons at the boat yard's Arey's Pond Sailing School (group lessons for children, privates for adults). Kayak or sail to ocean beach or row to an island for a picnic. Amazing birdwatching opportunities!
