About Jody Stebben

Hi! I'm Jody!!

My husband Gregg and I love our beach house but right now we need to follow work opportunities that take us away from the beautiful Isle of Palms. Gregg is in the radio business and Jody is in the museum exhibit design and management business, and our job is taking us away for awhile. We love surfing, hiking and lots of other outdoor activities that we can enjoy with our dog, Benny. We have done a lot of recent remodeling and decorating of our beach house to make it beautiful and comfortable for all of our renters.

Jody Stebben purchased this house in 2007

Why Jody Stebben chose Isle of Palms

We moved to the Charleston area in 2004 and then fell in love with the Isle of Palms. We never intended to rent our house out because we love it, and we love being so close to the beach...because we're both surfers and also take our dog Jersey to the beach as many times a day as we can. But this crazy economy is taking us away we hope you will enjoy our home while we're gone!

What makes this house unique

Its a fun beach house, just a short straight walk to the beach. We love our daily and nightly walks on the beach, surfing, swimming in the warm waters of the Atlantic and then coming home to the shade under our giant oak trees. Our house is open and beach-y with a casual and unique layout. We have decorated it with love and memories. Our house is also a very short walk to the Isle of Palms Marina, where you can kayak or sail or launch your own boat, or just grab lunch or dinner while enjoying the stunning water views. And, of course, downtown Charleston and the rest of the famous Charleston Lowcountry are just minutes away by car.

Loved being so close to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

The house has exactly what we needed. Close to the beach and far enough to feel like you were off the beaten path. Our family had been to Charleston for the last five years and this was are first staying in Isle of Palm, it will be hard to image staying any place else after this last trip. The house was also close to everything! Restaurants, grocery, the connector was the easiest was to get back into Charleston and that was close too. Enjoy all that Charleston has to offer! Thank you to our host for an amazing stay, made this vacation super easy. Hope to do business with you again!

Roomy beach house short walk to beach!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed with two other young couples and our two dachshunds. We love IOP and have stayed in many different homes over the years.

Positives: close to beach, each bedroom has its own full bathroom, great fenced yard, quiet location, great stocked kitchen with good appliances, quiet end of the beach away from crowds, fairly comfortable beds.

Minor negatives: precipitous stairs everywhere-would be bad for the elderly and was a bit difficult for our doxies. Lighting in kitchen and eating area was very poor- we had some difficulty doing puzzles/playing games at the big table. The downstairs bathroom could use a refresh, at least a new countertop. Although close to walk to the beach, hauling all the beach paraphernalia was a bit of a struggle, so a beach cart to use would have made it a lot easier.

Overall a nice place for 3 couples!!

Owner's Response: Thanks to Ann, we are adding "multi-level" to the write up of our listing. Although it should be clear in the photos, Ann has helped us realize that making it clear in writing that there are different levels and stairs in the house would also be helpful. Our consistent 5-star rating over the past eight years and our many guests' comments show that people love our house. We're sorry that Ann found our stairs "precipitous" - they're not. It is a multi-level house, but actually each staircase is wider than required by code and perfect for humans. The level change adds to the visual interest and uniqueness of the house. As for the lighting in the kitchen and dining room: We've never had a guest complaint about this before nor did we ever find the lighting to be an issue ourselves in the years we lived in the home. If you look at other reviews, you will see many reviewers reference how much they enjoyed the kitchen and dining room. Finally, to Ann's point about a beach cart: We have tried over the years to leave a cart and boards for guests, but the truth is they quickly disappear so we've given up promising to provide them each week for guests. We've been renting our IOP beach house on VRBO for eight years and the house is booked almost every week of every year, and we work very hard to delight our guests.

Fantastic vacation getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We liked it so much that we are still here! We extended our stay by five nights and won’t be leaving until Saturday. Having an absolutely wonderful time here with our three legged labrador! The home is so comfortable, we hang out on the screened in porch a lot and love that, and every morning we take long walks throughout the lovely neighborhood. We’ll be back!

Perfect 3 bed room 3 bath home floor plan offering plenty of privacy & togetherness for all including your pet dog.

Good kitchen open to large dining table room table. Short walk to beach through local neighborhood & wide dunes. Low tide on beach offers large expanse for walking, bike riding(yes) or exploring. 2 miles to market, shops or restaurants. Sea Biscut(breakfast/lunch) highly recommended. Hop over to Sullivans Island for especially scrumptous burgers & craft beer @ Poe's Tavern. 25-30 min drive to Charleston, one of the most truly historic & culturally rich cities on the east coast.

Quiet and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our week vacation/belated honeymoon here. It is very convenient to the beach, but is tucked away and quiet. Also , only a short golf cart ride to the Marina. Our 2 Boykin Spaniels enjoyed themselves as well . To top it off, we were welcomed with fresh Roses and a gift basket when we arrived that the owner had for us.....and then a phone call to assure all was ok. Great dog friendly choice to enjoy the beach and island life.

As advertised plus more

  • 5 of 5

As others have noted, this truly is a short walk to the beach and straight shot out the back door. Better yet, due to a bend in the beach road, there's no public parking, meaning the beach isn't crowded at this end. As for the house, the eclectic decor made it very homey. Extra touches included some that weren't advertised, such as a large dog crate (even though we brought our own), beach towels, and chairs. The washer and dryer were also commercial-sized, which was good for all the beach towels, and there were plenty of "starter" items (toilet paper, soap, paper towels--even spices!) for those of us who have to drive 11 hours to get to IOP and don't want to rush out to Harris Teeter! I would recommend this home to anyone.

Atlantic Ocean - one block

There are just four houses between our house and the beach. After your beach time it is always nice to come back to the shade from the huge oaks around the house.

The house is also 4 blocks from the Isle of Palms Marina where you will find the public boat launch; the Morgan Creek Grill and Bar which has great river views; a small convenience store and gas station, and kayak and jet sky rental and eco boating trips available. Wild Dunes, just a few block away, offer golf courses (Harbor Course and Links Course) 843 886-2164.

There are a number of other great restaurants and shops on IOP (Boat House, Hucks, Sea Biscuit), Sullivan's Island (Poe's is my favorite), Mt Pleasant (Mustard Seed, Basil, Bamboo) and historic down town Charleston (Hominy Grill, SNOB, Fig, Husk).

There is a dog park locate behind the Recreation Center at 29th and Hartnett Blvd.

Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, Boating, Parasailing, Shelling, Wildlife Viewing, Health/Beauty Spa, Racquetball, Basketball Court, Mini Golf
