About Charlie & Lizzie

We are American diplomats; we are currently serving America's critical interests in Egypt. We enjoy difficult places because it makes a difference, we think.

Our son loves America, and having visited 25 different countries and living in 6 countries on three continents, decided to attend the University of Utah. He loves anything outdoors....skiing, climbing, biking. He's dashingly handsome, huh?

We have lived and visited all around the world, and decided that Crested Butte would be home: it is absolutely beautiful, and has some of the most interesting, friendly, and least self-possessed people we have ever met.

Wild Iris is our home sweet home...until we quit this crazy Foreign Service life we'll share it with you.

Come check out Crested butte..you'll love it!

Charlie & Lizzie purchased this house in 2004

Why Charlie & Lizzie chose Crested Butte Area

Beautiful country...interesting people....friendly people.....a town you can still walk in and chat with everyone you see.

What makes this house unique

You can leave your car behind and walk everywhere...now that's freedom, the perfect escape! It's a 5 minute walk to everywhere. We take our son up to the top of the mountains in summer and have a picnic, and then let him mountain bike home....all downhill. The house has lots of character, as do all the people.

Just finished our stay at the property with 4 guests. What a great place to stay. Owner made us feel very welcome. Everything about the property was the best. Walking distance to everything restaurants, bars, grocery store, liquor store etc. Quick walk to the free shuttle that takes you to the mountain. Would highly recommend the property.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Although we live in state, we wanted an easy getaway for our family. We spent six unplugged nights in this beautiful, cozy home. Everything was exactly as described -- actually it was even better! Our teenage girls each had their own room, while my husband and I enjoyed the master suite. The kitchen was well-equipped and easy to navigate. We spent countless hours playing games, putting together 2, 1000 piece puzzles and watching movies in the warm living room. We cross-country skied five of the six days, most of which were bluebird perfect conditions. Hardly ever got in our car, and when we did it was just for less than 15 minutes. Bliss! Can't recommend this place highly enough! If we had the money, I'd offer to buy it. That's just how much we loved it! :)

We were in Crested Butte for our son’s July 16 wedding and found Wild Iris to be perfect for us (my husband, me, our daughter and her husband). Because of the wedding, there were a number of family members and friends staying in different locations, including in Mt. Crested Butte. The house is very close to the main stop for the free shuttle that runs between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte, so it was easy for people to drop by our house. It is only a block off the main street, Elk, which has a number of restaurants and shops. The Wild Iris location, however, is quiet because it does not have commercial establishments near it. It also is very close to the local grocery. Basically, once you arrive at Wild Iris you don’t need to use your car unless heading off for a hike or event that is out-of-town. The house has a nice historic feel to it, has some flowers around, and is a charming place to stay. The living room, kitchen and dining area are combined and open onto the deck and small fenced yard so it doesn’t feel cramped at all. The house included some nice, home-like touches such as a book on local hikes. Some places we’ve stayed clear everything out so you have to buy salt, pepper, etc. These were at the house, along with various spices, laundry soap, etc. Presumably this varies depending on the last rental, but it was nice to have them. We also liked the fact that our daughter was able to bring her elderly dog along. Overall it is a nice house in a great location and a fun place to stay.

We found the owner and the property manager to be very helpful. Also the pictures and description are accurate (minus the snow, of course -- we were there during wildflower season!)

Owner's Response: Thank you!!.... We appreciate your stay and also thank you for taking the time to write a great review! You hit on all of Wild Iris' best points: character, location, comfort. We try to make it comfy for people by having great kitchen equipment as well as a supply of common spices to make life a little easier. Come back again!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We spent spring break at the Wild Iris and it was perfect for us. There were 4 adults and 2 children (6 years old). We had everything we needed and it was just cozy enough. Also, we were only a couple blocks from the 4 way bus stop, 1/2 block from Elk and a couple blocks from the grocery - could not have been better! Can't wait to return during the summer months. Thanks for letting us stay at your home.

6 weeks of fun!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I with our two dogs spent an unforgettable 6 week vacation in Crested Butte at the Wild Iris property on fifth street. It was the perfect location for us and hope to return! We had guests coming and going and had plenty of room. I strongly recommend staying in town verses on the mountain. You can walk everywhere and Wild Iris is off the main street on a corner lot so it was as quiet and private as you could get! The town operates a shuttle every 15 minutes to the Mountain so no need to get in your car while you are there! I was thrilled also that Queen of all Saints was a 2 minute walk to Mass on Sundays. Most everyone, Locals and vacationers alike were so helpful and friendly! Especially when it snowed :) !

Great Spring Break!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (including 3 teens and our dog) spent the week at the Wild Iris for spring break. The cabin is very cozy and has all the amenities that you need. The location was excellent - a short 2 block walk to the shuttle that takes you to the slopes which runs every 15 minutes, 1 block to all the fun shops and restaurants of Crested Butte, 2 blocks from the grocery... The only time we got in our car was to take our dog to the doggie day care. Charlie was so responsive and easy to work with. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to return again!!
