Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms and loft area + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

The Ridge Road Cabin is one of the nicest all-year cabins/cottages available in the area and is open year round. The Cabin is fully equipped with furniture, linen, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, cable TV and DVD players, as well as an IPOD and MP3 speaker docking station. The Cabin also has a collection of movies, books and games for those times spent indoors.

The Ridge Road Cabin is located on an acre, on a no through road, with lots of seclusion and privacy, and just a short half mile walk from town. It is peaceful and quiet and it is surrounded on three sides by trees and woods. When you wake in the morning, in the main bedroom king size bed, look out across the ridge and trees to the Lake Superior's skyline. You may catch a glimpse of Lake Superior's water after the leaves have fallen in the fall. Sunsets can be magnificent from the second floor master bedroom at anytime of the year as you get the low sky colors at dusk. You might also enjoy sitting on the deck watching the sunset or the deer making their way through the woods, or sitting by the fire pit at night with little, except firelight, to interfere with your night sky.

The environmentally friendly cabin is all electric, which means you get just clean Upper Peninsula Michigan air. The gas fireplace is for extra ambiance and back-up heat. The beds have soft white comforters and warm fleece blankets, quilts or coverlets.

The Ridge Road Cabin now has two bedrooms and a small loft area on the second floor. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and bedroom two has a full bed, perfect for two couples. The loft area has two twin beds. There is some additional bedding available at a small fee (see the notes under "rates"). On the first floor is the living room, kitchen and bathroom as well as the deck area and garage. The set up is ideal to allow some people to continue to sleep while the remainder of the guests are using the living areas below.

In summer, spring and autumn, laying in a hammock beside the deck, and reading a book while waiting for your dinner to grill, is always a favorite. The cabin has a large gas grill on the deck as well as a fire pit in an open grassy area. There is also a small charcoal grill available for use.

The driveway is paved and a good size for boats and snowmobiles and trailers. A large attached lockable garage can house the car or motorcycles. When your car or motorbike is not parked, take a drive or ride down to Sable Lake or the dunes or to the start of the many walking trails in the area. The Cabin is center to accessing the snow mobile trails, both east and west of the town. In summer, it is just a short stroll down to the lake for a swim.

The Cabin's location is approximately 0.38 of a mile from the lake as the crow flies, and is approximately 0.5 mile from the lake and center of town by road. There are a number of quaint restaurants and bars in town within easy walking distance, if you like to walk. The West Bay Diner and Delicatessen has an excellent chef who makes fresh bread and dishes made from scratch, and it is all contained in an old fashioned diner facade. The Dune Saloon makes a mean pizza and some very good beer,, and is the favorite watering hole for the locals. The Breakwall Bakery and Cafe is also popular with visitors.

You'll relax at the Ridge Road Cabin.

INTERNET: None in the Ridge Road Cabin. Available at various places around town, including (subject to change without notice) at the Diner a short distance away, the Grand Marais Tavern, and at the Grand Marais Outfitters in town.

DIRECTIONS:

FROM M-77 - Travel on M-77 toward Grand Marais, turn right on Ridge Road (next after Carpenter Rd) before going down the hill into town, cross over Woodruff St and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

FROM GRAND MARAIS TOWN CENTER: Travel along Grand Marais Ave running along the bay, turn right on Woodruff St, go up the hill and cross Wilson St then turn left on Ridge Road and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

Cosy cabin, great location

  • 5 of 5

The Ridge Road Cabin was at a great, quiet location within walking distance of town and just outside of Pictured Rocks, making it the perfect place from which to explore the area. It had everything we needed (except matches for the firepit... bring a lighter!) and was clean & comfortable. My only complaint is that the kitchen trash can was pretty stinky from past guests' garbage and the foot-powered lid opener wasn't working; it might be worth investing in a new one. Overall we had a fantastic stay!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

First impressions mean a lot and when we walked in after a 8+ hour drive, the place looked and smelled clean because it was. It was everything we had wanted and had hoped for, and in my opinion, just as advertised in words and pictures. It was primarily a sleeping and getting ready for the day location for us as we spent most of the daylight hours out exploring and photographing the Pictured Rocks area and beyond. It had everything we needed and I can't think of anything that I would have asked to be different.

Three Day Stay

  • 5 of 5

Grand Marais is a nice little town with things to do. The cabin is a close walk into town and it was perfect for two couples. You can take day trips from here and come back and cook out for dinner. We would stay here again!

Quiet and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Grand Marais over the 4th when it's super busy in town. The house is located far enough away that's it's private and peaceful yet closed enough you can walk instead of driving everywhere.

Great Location and all the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

The Ridge Road Cabin is everything you could expect in a home away from home experience. There's every convenience imaginable except wifi but I had 4G phone service so it wasnt a big deal. The home is about 1/2 mile outside of Grand Marais and very easy to find. Your literally 3 minutes from downtown and 4 minutes to a park or beach. There's easy access to Pictured Rocks National park from M77 and several good restaurants in town to chose from. We had no issues with the house, the bed was very comfortable and enjoyed looking out the monstrous picture window to see the sunshine or look at the stars in the nighttime sky. There's a fire pit and nice deck off to the side with a grill for those looking to save some money on eating out. If you have the energy after playing all day there's a huge selection of DVDs, cable TV or lots of games for those inclined to do some relaxation. The only negative thing i would say and it's not really that big a deal, there's only 1 bathroom and it's downstairs while all the beds are upstairs. Again a minor inconvenience but something to think about if you dont do stairs very well. Good communication from Tisha and Georgina right from the start. I'd definitely recommend this place and hope to be back up again in the near future.

Perfect, comfortable and restful

  • 5 of 5

We had all 5 of our children at Ridge Road cottage, and found it perfect for what we needed. It's very close to Grand Marais bay for swimming and quick grocery needs, and a short drive from all the fun tourist spots.

We found everything we needed, the cottage was very clean and comfortable. We made good use of the grill and bonfire pit while we were there and the large yard provided plenty of space for little people to play.

The beds are very comfortable, and the master bedroom view is lovely!

We plan to stay here again in the future. Thank you so much!!
