Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms and loft area + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

The Ridge Road Cabin is one of the nicest all-year cabins/cottages available in the area and is open year round. The Cabin is fully equipped with furniture, linen, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, cable TV and DVD players, as well as an IPOD and MP3 speaker docking station. The Cabin also has a collection of movies, books and games for those times spent indoors.

The Ridge Road Cabin is located on an acre, on a no through road, with lots of seclusion and privacy, and just a short half mile walk from town. It is peaceful and quiet and it is surrounded on three sides by trees and woods. When you wake in the morning, in the main bedroom king size bed, look out across the ridge and trees to the Lake Superior's skyline. You may catch a glimpse of Lake Superior's water after the leaves have fallen in the fall. Sunsets can be magnificent from the second floor master bedroom at anytime of the year as you get the low sky colors at dusk. You might also enjoy sitting on the deck watching the sunset or the deer making their way through the woods, or sitting by the fire pit at night with little, except firelight, to interfere with your night sky.

The environmentally friendly cabin is all electric, which means you get just clean Upper Peninsula Michigan air. The gas fireplace is for extra ambiance and back-up heat. The beds have soft white comforters and warm fleece blankets, quilts or coverlets.

The Ridge Road Cabin now has two bedrooms and a small loft area on the second floor. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and bedroom two has a full bed, perfect for two couples. The loft area has a loft L-shaped bunkbed (2 large twins). There is some additional bedding available at a small fee (see the notes under "rates"). On the first floor is the living room, kitchen and bathroom as well as the deck area and garage. The set up is ideal to allow some people to continue to sleep while the remainder of the guests are using the living areas below.

In summer, spring and autumn, laying in a hammock beside the deck, and reading a book while waiting for your dinner to grill, is always a favorite. The cabin has a park charcoal grill in the yard as well as a fire pit in an open grassy area.

The driveway is paved with concrete and a good size for boats and snowmobiles and trailers. A large attached lockable garage can house the car or motorcycles. When your car or motorbike is not parked, take a drive or ride down to Sable Lake or the dunes or to the start of the many walking trails in the area. The Cabin is center to accessing the snow mobile trails, both east and west of the town. In summer, it is just a short stroll down to the lake for a swim.

The Cabin's location is approximately 0.38 of a mile from the lake as the crow flies, and is approximately 0.5 mile from the lake and center of town by road. There are a number of quaint restaurants and bars in town within easy walking distance, if you like to walk. The West Bay Diner and Delicatessen has an excellent chef who makes fresh bread and dishes made from scratch, and it is all contained in an old fashioned diner facade. The Dune Saloon makes a mean pizza and some very good beer,, and is the favorite watering hole for the locals. The Breakwall Bakery and Cafe is also popular with visitors.

You'll relax at the Ridge Road Cabin.

INTERNET: None in the Ridge Road Cabin. Available at various places around town, including (subject to change without notice) at the Diner a short distance away, the Grand Marais Tavern, and at the Grand Marais Outfitters in town.

DIRECTIONS:

FROM M-77 - Travel on M-77 toward Grand Marais, turn right on Ridge Road (next after Carpenter Rd) before going down the hill into town, cross over Woodruff St and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

FROM GRAND MARAIS TOWN CENTER: Travel along Grand Marais Ave running along the bay, turn right on Woodruff St, go up the hill and cross Wilson St then turn left on Ridge Road and the Ridge Road Cabin is approximately 100 yards on your right.

Our connection with this area started during childhood summers and has remained ever since. It is peaceful and quiet here and we know that every time we leave we don't want to go.

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Grand Marais

It is away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the many snowmobile trails and walking trails in the area. We also have fun mixing with the local residents.

The cabin was nice and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

We only stayed two nights but we found the cabin met our needs. You will want to purchase your basic groceries in a larger town and bring with you. Found the gas/general stores to be expensive for items. Other than that . . . it was good.

Clean, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house was easy to find. Walked in and found everything to be clean and ready to go. The beds were comfortable. I had no complaints except for one thing. When I read the listing, it mentioned a gas grill plus a charcoal grill. We were prepared for a gas grill only to find out it wasn't there anymore (but there were propane tanks?). It's not a big deal as we grill on charcoal all the time. When I ask my family what they thought, they all said they liked it. When asked what would've been better or nice to have, I got the following: a better cookie sheet, WiFi, and better toilet paper.

I liked the info book that was in the house. It gave us some additional ideas of what to do while there. I did notice it was kind of out-dated, especially in regards to trash. Overall, I would recommend this place!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Your constructive comments are very appreciated. The gas grill was moved out only 2 months ago and its place we cemented in a new park charcoal grill the yard. I have now made sure to amend the listing to reflect the change. I will make sure to update the folder in the cabin too to reflect that the caretaker can collect trash on Sundays for a Monday pickup service if the guests is staying that evening. Guests can call the caretaker the day prior and request this service. We will address the cookie sheet next time we are there. No can do, on the toilet paper - we purposefully stick with Scott's toilet paper because it is the best for septic tanks. Regarding the request for WiFi, we are keeping away from adding WiFi at the Ridge Road Cabin at this time because that would result in a nightly cost increase for guests and we don't have someone who could easily deal with it and reset it if it goes down. We recommend people use their phone hotspots while at the cabin if they have that option, or drop down to one of the restaurants or the tavern and use their free WiFi if you need it.

It was great to stay in a real house with a proper kitchen and a proper shower! The location was quiet, but close enough to town to walk in for dinner. We loved the deck, and the weather was perfect! Lovely place!
