About H Hackett Cummins

The owners, former New Orleanians, have an adjoining cottage. They love the coastal weather that tempts them outside year-round, especially for gardening, fishing, golfing and sitting on the porch to watch the wildlife. They look forward to the many area festivals and fairs in nearby towns and enjoy the wide choice of casual and gourmet restaurants nearby.

H Hackett Cummins purchased this cottage in 2006

Why H Hackett Cummins chose Pass Christian

Having come here since childhood--grandparents, parents, and more, and now children and grandchildren--they chose to retire here and continue to enjoy the Mississippi Sound and the area's many charms. They purchased Dormie House when residents scattered after Hurricane Katrina, then decided to make it a vacation rental. The neighborhood sits on a slight ridge that protects it from storm surge and catches ocean breezes. It also has many coastal live oaks that make it a shady place, nice for walking and biking.

What makes this cottage unique

The Mississippi Gulf Coast offers one town after another facing a white sand beach that stretches most of the way from Louisiana to Alabama. You'll find small town charm, plus the excitement of casinos, shows and city life found in a metropolitan area that ranks second in the state. Natural beauty abounds in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, the coastal live oaks and the multitude of birds and ocean life. Scenic Drive with its mix of historic and recently built mansions is a visual treat itself. What a pleasure to return each time to the Dormie House in historic Pass Christian, just steps from all the Coast has to offer.

We had a lovely time at The Dormie House! We stayed during "Crusin the Coast". Our time on the coast of MS was hectic to say the least! LOL! It was so nice to come back in the evenings to this little inviting home away from home. Our friend trailered our car and his in for the week. It was a bit of a tight squeeze to get the double trailer into the driveway. However, once it was unloaded and in, we felt safe leaving the rig there while we were attending events. This home is tucked back into it's neighborhood. It was a very quiet neighborhood also. Had we been able to go to the beach, it was within walking distance. You just have to cross Route 90. The home itself is just awesome! Lots of room if you needed to be inside for any length of time. Very nice well stocked kitchen area. If I had been cooking or baking I would have had everything I needed to do so. There's a Walmart nearby to get all the ingredients that would be needed. It has it's little quirks, such as light switches not being where you think they should be. Mr. Cummins has them VERY WELL marked! You do have to walk through a bedroom to get to the master bedroom. A quirk that we didn't mind at all. The inside of the home is VERY WELL kept. VERY CLEAN! We even had a chance to meet the neighbors that live on the other side of a fence. Very nice people! I can't say enough good about this house! It met all our needs and then some! We even felt that our cars were very safe at night in the neighborhood. Mr. Cummins is a very helpful, nice, understanding owner. We would definitely stay here again! If you are going to the MS Coast and want to be near where it all happens but not stay where it all happens, then check out this home away from home!! I think you'll have as wonderful of a time as we did! Hope to come back again sometime!

Great place for a family

  • 4 of 5

The Dormie House was a great spot for our family of six this summer! We enjoyed the (very) close proximity to the beach, which was nearly empty every day - much to our liking. It's less than a one block walk. Can't beat that. The house itself is very cute and rustic - also to our liking. The glassed in patio is a great place to enjoy breakfast as the sun comes up in front of you. The family room is a nice sized room. The kitchen has everything you'll need, if you want to cook during your stay. The bedrooms are nice, too. One has a full bed, the others have two twin beds, each. Two full bathrooms are helpful when you have six people staying there, as well. :) The owner was very responsive to our text when we had a question and was accommodating to us. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of a couple of bugs that we found inside the house. It's the south, near the water, it happens. Other than that, it was fabulous. We definitely would go back! Thanks for a wonderful stay. We have some great memories from this trip and the house only added to those memories, in a positive way. We recommend staying here if you have a family, or if you're just looking for a nice place to get away!

Clean peaceful 3 BR, 2 bath. Less than a block from the beach. Awesome front porch!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Dormie House during Spring Break. We nearly had the beach to ourselves! The gulf water was light brown like lake water because of the Mississippi River. We are inlanders, so we did not mind. There are plenty of good resturants close by, and there are GREAT tips on where to eat and shop at the house.

The kitchen was fully equipped, and groceries are not far away. It was nice to have laundry facilities so we could travel light.

The day that it rained, we went into New Orleans to the WW II Museum, and to the French Quarter.

The only thing I would caution is the bedroom layout is so that you walk through 2 of the bedrooms to get to the master and the back bath and laundry. Our family delt with that just fine. The front porch is GREAT for those that stay up late or get up early. The coffe pot is even out there!

I imagine we will stay here again if timing works out. =)

The Dormie House was better than advertised.

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant one week stay at the Dormie House . The house itself was much bigger than we expected . There is a large living room , dining room ,kitchen in addition to the 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the surprise was the glassed in ,air-conditioned front porch that had another dining table as well as a sitting area . The home was fully equipped with all of the kitchen utensils, dishes, the linens were all in excellent condition, and there was an adequate supply of extra towels, blankets, pillows . Also there is a laundry room with washer, dryer, iron and ironing board . The house was a half block from the beach and it was tucked under the large oak trees on a quiet road .We had quiet and solitude and felt very comfortable . The location is convenient to the rest of the coast, Gulfport ,Biloxi and more restaurants ,casinos and is about an hour drive to New Orleans .There is an abundance of good restaurants from Bay Saint Louis to Biloxi .We did certainly enjoy staying here and would recommend this property .It would be excellent for a family with children . Nice location in quiet neighborhood.

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was very nice. Clean and roomy, the Dorman house had everything we needed. Large kitchen equipped with everything needed if you wanted to cook. Nice sized bedrooms with comfy beds and two full bathrooms . Only a block from the beach . The house has s nice yard and is located in a quiet neighborhood. My husband fished with Capt. Brian of Reel South Fishing Charters. He had a great time and caught a lot of fish. The house is not too far from the Pass Christian Harbor which was nice for him. Wonderful restaurants near by also. Hooks, Bacchus, and Shaggy's are a few of our favorites. The Pass had an art festival in the park. I enjoyed the beautiful crafts and visiting with the artist's. Would stay here again. Had a wonderful time!

Cozy Well-Equipped Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the Dormie House. The kitchen was well-equipped which was a positive for us since we were able to eat in more & prepare our own dinner with the fresh seafood we purchased from the harbor that day. We enjoyed having our mealtimes in the enclosed porch & loved the architecture of the home. We also liked that that the ride into town was bike-friendly. It enabled us to ditch the car for an afternoon & cycle into town for some sightseeing & souvenir shopping. Highly recommend.
