About Lauren

Thanksgiving of 2014 we purchased the Olive Branch Cabin after having rented it ourselves several times over the past few years. It is now 'home' where we love to walk, watch the sunrises and sunsets, and be in communion with God and the mountains and the deer who roam here. We think of the mountains of Colorado as 'God's country' and hope that others also find the peace and solitude here that we experience.

We named the cabin 'Olive Branch' because it represents the beginning of a vision we have to reach out to military couples who have experienced brokenness as a result of war. In the Genesis story of Noah and the Ark, the dove brought back an olive branch when the flood waters began to recede. The Olive Branch is therefore a symbol of hope... hope for a new future, hope for a new start in life, hope for a new beginning in our relationships with each other and with God.

And so we are Robert and Victoria and as you may have assumed, we are a military couple who has traveled and lived all over the world. Robert is an Air Force Chaplain and Victoria is a Presbyterian Minister. We have served congregations and military bases in Kentucky, Ohio, Idaho, Spain, Colorado, California, Florida and Texas. But our first love has always been Colorado! We are empty nesters now as we have two college-aged children and the four of us are stretched between three different states. And so one of the reasons we have this cabin is so that we can finally have a place to call home and to gather as a transient and geo-separated family.

Lauren purchased this cabin in 2014

What makes this cabin unique

Many years ago we began to lead marriage retreats for Air Force couples and believe that God is calling us to do this in our future Colorado retirement. Until then we continue to serve God and country, enjoy visits to the Olive Branch Cabin, and spending time with our adult children. It is our hope that your time spent at the 'Olive Branch Cabin' will bring about hope, renewal and sacred rest.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a delightful cabin! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, couldn't have asked for a better place. Red Door vacations was wonderful, so easy to work with and the cabin was perfect. We would highly recommend it!

Most Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Olive Branch Cabin as part of our honeymoon and it felt so much like home we didn't want leave! Our stay there wasn't long enough! We hope to return again in the future and if we do we wouldn't stay anywhere but here!!

The kitchen was fully stocked with even some of your basic seasonings (which surprised me) the kitchen pots and pans etc. Were all high dollar stuff that worked very well!!

My biggest concern coming here was that it was a pet friendly place and I'm not keen on indoor pet so I was scared to find hair....but to my amazment THERE WERE NONE TO BE FOUND!!!! you couldn't even tell there had ever been and pets in there it was spotless!!

We did have some weather issues so we were unable to try the hot tub! :( And due to the weather the wifi was out as well and there was hardly any service (for Verizon) but all and all we couldn't have had a better weekend!!

The perfect cabin for a weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was everything we were looking for and more. Upon arrival it was clean and fully stocked with all the essentials, towels, extra blankets, soap, cookware, etc. Literally all you need is yourself and any food you want to cook. It was definitely roomy enough for a small group or family. We enjoyed making s'mores by the outdoor fire pit, soaking in the hot tub while star gazing, and just enjoying the solitude that a mountain cabin offers. The route to the cabin can be tricky as it takes you up some steep and winding dirt roads, but the staff at Red Door were helpful in letting us know that beforehand so we were prepared. We also spent some time exploring the surrounding areas; Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, skiing at Breckenridge, and taking a tour of the nearby wolf sanctuary were all must-sees. I would absolutely recommend this cabin, and would love to stay here again!

Rental Review

  • 2 of 5

I would give this place 5 stars however when you have a cleaning fee and the place is not completely cleaned that is where I draw the line. So because of this I will not recommend this place

Owner's Response: I'm sorry the house wasn't up to your standards for cleaning. Unfortunately, during this time of year as the cold weather sets in, we have noticed an increase in the cluster fly activity in the cabin. We are taking every measure to reduce the number of flies in the home. The owners are aware and have called in exterminators and pest control, however, more flies simply get in. We clean each of our rentals after each guest checks out, but our guests are our best eyes on the property. We'll take your feedback and speak with the cleaning crew and the owner about what we can do better about the fly situation and about how to make sure the house's cleanliness is up to everyone's standards and nothing gets overlooked. We don't wan't the cleaning to keep you from enjoying your stay.

Perfect in every possible way!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this property justice. Aside from being incredibly gorgeous, yet cozy, clean and stocked with everything you might need, the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. A fully-stocked kitchen, labels on all supplies, nice linens, throw blankets, dog supplies, and on and on. It's a little piece of paradise that we did not want to leave! I can't recommend this property enough if you are looking for a truly relaxing and peaceful getaway. We were treated to gorgeous sunsets, sunrises, and we got to see the full moon from our hot tub. We will be back in the winter when we can sit inside by the fire and do nothing but eat and read all day. Thank you to the owners and management for providing such a fantastic getaway!
