Overview

About the property

Estate, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

It took 2 years and $5,000,000 to recreate this British empire estate worthy of Tommy Bahama. Whether it is the flowering vines on the main residence or the giant ferns shading the cottage/catering center you will wonder if indeed the tropic splendor of 1880's Singapore has come to coastal elegance that is Carmel by the Sea.

Our long time business clients or new friends can stroll the quiet rose gardens or do some entertaining of their own on the the over 2,000 sq. ft. of stone patios. Is it the tropical cabana or the slate roof lines that provide the perfect backdrop to an corporate gathering or a 50th anniversary? Is it a catered dinner or 'smores' at the outdoor fireplace with the kids that gives pause in the lush surroundings to contemplate the blessings of success?

A tiger-stripped stone walkway guides you from the off street parking to the carved glass of the Mahogany front door. As you enter the main residence you are surrounded by the comfortable elegance that at once says 'Wow' and also 'welcome home'. Our upper drive parking accommodates three vehicles easily while the lower drive preferred drop off allows all guests easy access.

The gourmet kitchen featuring a sub-zero refrigerator and Viking 6 burner range presents our guests with their first dilemma! Should I prepare the evenings offering myself? Perhaps free range chicken with local chanterelle mushrooms and glass of 2006 Robert Talbot Pinot?. But then again you're in Carmel home to some of the best restaurants in the world. You take the 10 min. walk to downtown Carmel by the Sea where world class dining awaits!

Throughout the main residence one's expectations are well accommodated. The flicker of wood burning fireplaces is seen in the kitchen and living room, while the library/video room can be shut off for viewing privacy and 'quiet' for the rest of the house. Our 'Boat room' doubles as a game/fitness area while also having a conference option hosting twenty attendees. With over 70% of the residence accessible from the main floor with no steps and preferred drop off via our lower drive all guests are comfortable.

There are 2 suites on the main floor. The 'Queen room' done in shades of cinnamon and coral features a queen bed, private bath and wood burning fireplace. For those whose life experience now exceeds their stair climbing talents, this is a great suite. Across the hall, the Twin room has the flexibility of either 2 twin beds or a single king. Either way the claw foot tub is the perfect spot to end a day at the links of 'Pebble' or shopping on 'Ocean Ave'.

The upstairs suites neither disappoint. Morning is greeted in the 'Birds Nest' with a birds eye view of the Monterey Pines. A king bed, fireplace and Jacuzzi tub make the evenings pleasant as well. The other suite, 'Bridge room' - it literally bridges the 2 halves of the home - is our largest suite with a king bed, gas fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and queen sofa bed. Both suites offer private slate decks overlooking the forested patios, whispering 'more wine and cheese, please'.

Aloha Estate is located off of Ocean Avenue. Due to its location it often escapes the chilly afternoon fog, yet is only a 10 minute walk to downtown. In line with Carmel Valley, the Estate benefits from its warming breezes, allowing one to enjoy a BBQ on its stone patios or a lounge with a good book. Its expansive gardens back to the Carmel Mission trial, a 15 minute stroll away!

Why Victor chose Carmel By the Sea

Prior to purchasing the property my wife and I had visited Carmel for almost 30 years. Being a real estate developer in N. California and Hawaii, I was 'picky' regarding what we were looking for in a high end house. We started seriously looking 5 years ago, when my wife found this property it had actually been taken off the market. Though it was in need of much updating I loved the location and my wife appreciated the interior 'bones'. With our background of developing in Hawaii we decided to do a rendition of a British empire 'fusion', our version of British estates found throughout Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. 2 years and $5,000,000 later, we hope that we succeeded!

What makes this estate unique

The 'top' ten experiences of 'Aloha Estate' 1. Pitch dark sky at night and quiet ! 2. Morning coffee on one of the upstairs decks 3. Gourmet cooking while a fire sizzles in the kitchen fireplace 4. A glass of Rombauer Chardonnay any where 5. Soaking in the claw foot tub after a round at Pebble 6. Dinner downtown at Le Bicyclette 7. Basking in the morning sunlight of the Living room 8. Finishing a good book lounging among the gardens 9. A Walk downtown 10. Ending the day with a cup of tea from our extensive tea collection

Relaxing stay in a beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Carmel over the past weekend. Once a year a group of us from high school gets together for a weekend away. This year there were 7 of us who stayed at this beautiful home. We started our mornings by walking down to Ocean Avenue for coffee. Our favorite walk was the Scenic Loop walk where we leisurely walked along the beach and admired the amazing homes in Carmel. Each afternoon we enjoyed appetizers and wine in the backyard. What a peaceful setting! Two of our guests loved to cook so they thoroughly enjoyed using the gourmet kitchen indoors as well as the grill outside. Martin, the owner, was extremely responsive and helpful. The home was spotless and the little details were thought of...a bottle of wine when we arrived as well as delicious madeleins and granola bars. We had such a perfect stay and are already talking about returning in the future. I would definitely recommend a stay at this beautiful, peaceful home.

Beyond Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

You will be pampered in this large beautifully decorated home, that is a 10 minute walk into downtown Carmel. Access to all of the Carmel sights and eateries couldn't be easier. The owner, Martin will readily provide you a list of his favorite places, and he was spot on! The home will exceed your expectations. TV's and coffee makers in every room. Amazing touches, like bowls of candy and treats everywhere. A very well stocked kitchen, with everything you need to eat meals in, or just socialize is a wonderful plus. Access to all of the local sights is easy, as the main highway will take you to Monterey, 5 minutes in one direction, and Point Lobos, 5 minutes in the other. Highly recommend this for family reunions, as was the case for our group.

Quiet, luxury and tranquill beauty just minutes from the beach and headlands

  • 5 of 5

Whether you are a couple looking for a private cottage or a group with a special occasion to celebrate together in a memorable setting, this rental hits the mark. As you walk out of this beautiful home you will be struck by the beauty of the gardens and the peaceful, private tranquility of the location just a few minutes from Carmel beach. The furnishings and linens are four star hotel quality with luxury upgrades through out the meticulously finished home and cottage. Highway 1 and its access to headlands, beaches, vineyards, forest wilderness, shopping and great food is just three minutes away - yet you do not hear traffic. Just 15 minutes from the property the Pacific crashes into North America at Point Lobos, the most beautiful headland on this continent. The only downside to this rental is that you will be tempted to spend too much time in the gardens and might not get to all the places you wanted to experience.

First ever reunion with my siblings and spouses

  • 5 of 5

Now that the nieces and nephews in my family are raising their own children, my siblings and I decided that it was time to begin a new tradition of coming together with our spouses annually for a "Sibs' Reunion". My husband and I volunteered to plan the inaugural event and quickly chose Carmel as our destination. We have loved the town and the area always and wanted to introduce family coming from Florida and Indiana to the beauty and charm.

I cannot imagine a better experience than we had at The Aloha Estate! While the photos show the beauty, they cannot do justice to the lush greenery and privacy of the grounds - with many hidden seating areas and that lovely Carmel breeze. We used every inch of the house and the Cottage as well - our Florida couple chose the Cottage and claimed dibs on it for future visits, saying that it was their "own little world" with every amenity they could imagine needing.

We spent each morning drinking coffee around the kitchen table, catching up on one another's lives. Our group ranged in age from 57 - 75 and we all easily walked into town, strolled the shops and lunched at Clint Eastwood's Hog's Breath Inn - a good time.

We ALL slept soundly...possibly because the owners have gone to great lengths ensuring that each bed is comfy, that there is a lovely thick bathrobe for every guest. And what's nicer than a Keurig Coffee Maker whenever you need one? I counted at least 4 of them complete with every choice of coffee or tea. What can I say? This was a pampering weekend for all of us.

Sadly, I did not work out in the well-equipped exercise room because the rest of the estate was just too much fun. If you're looking for luxury, space, every thoughtful amenity and responsive owners who want your stay to be the best, this is the place.

Retirement Party

  • 5 of 5

My father wanted to celebrate his retirement in Carmel with his wife, three children and each of his children's young families. The Aloha Estate could not have been a better choice. The home is beautiful, elegantly furnished and well-located (on a private street about 10 minutes walking into town). Each family had plenty of private space. Because of our small children, we celebrated at the house, hiring a private chef who had been there before. It was a special evening and an ideal venue for our group. I would recommend this place to others.
