Aloha Cottage: Tropical Splendor in Carmel

Bedrooms 1
Space 650 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Carmel by the Sea meets 'Tommy Bahama'. This newly remodeled cottage sits on the grounds of the private Aloha estate. It took 2 years and $5,000,000 to recreate this British empire property, that is shared by the Aloha Estate, VRBO #294760 and the Aloha cottage. Whether it is the flowering vines on the main residence or the giant ferns shading the cottage you will wonder if indeed the tropic splendor of 1880's Singapore has come to coastal elegance that is Carmel by the Sea.

Our long time business clients or new friends can stroll the quiet rose gardens or enjoy a private moment on the the over 2,000 sq. ft. of stone patios. Is it the tropical cabana or the slate roof lines that provide the perfect backdrop to a second honeymoon or long awaited get-a-way. Is it 'feet up' at the outdoor fireplace or a glass of 2006 Lockwood Chardonay that gives pause in the lush surroundings to contemplate the blessings of success?

A grove of day lilies escorts you as you walk down the path overlooking Aloha cottage. Sago palm and 'kangaroo flowers' lap the walk as the entry fountain whispers its greeting. As you enter the double french doors you are surrounded by the serenity that at once says 'Relax' and also 'welcome home'. Or enter through the silver-green quartz patio adjoining the entertainment area. Our lower drive preferred drop off allows all guests easy access.

Remodeled in a British Empire style the 600 sq ft. cottage is lined with cherry cabinetry with rattan accented furnishings. Whether it is a cup of Great Northern coffee (our favorite) or a light dinner of poached salmon with a Pinot Grigo reduction, the utility kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator is up to the task. But with the likes of Crab Benedict from Katy's Place or the Titanic Sushi platter courtesy of Sushi Heaven calling, you may opt for a stroll downtown instead. Enjoy a crackling fire upon your return as the firelight shimmers off the Asian inspired glass tiles or watch 'Memoirs of a Geisha' for the third time on one of two flat screen T.V.s. You drift off to sleep in the queen bed among overstuffed pillows, nested under a down comforter. Are the kids along? They can settle down in the queen sofa sleeper in the adjoining living room. Morning is greeted with a warming shower in the Bali decor bathroom.

Aloha Estate is located in a secluded off of Ocean Avenue. It often escapes the chilly afternoon fog, yet is only a 10 minute walk to downtown. In line with Carmel Valley, the Estate benefits from its warming breezes, allowing one to enjoy a BBQ on its stone patios or a lounge with a good book. Its expansive gardens back to the Carmel Mission trial leading to the Mission itself, a 15 minute walk away!

Why The Owner chose Carmel By the Sea

Prior to purchasing the Aloha Estate, # 294760 and Aloha cottage, #294846 my wife and I had visited Carmel for almost 30 years. Being a real estate developer in N. California and Hawaii, I was 'picky' about property. We started seriously looking 5 years ago, when my wife found this property it had actually been taken off the market. Though it was in need of much updating I loved the location and my wife appreciated the interior 'bones'. With our background of developing in Hawaii we decided to do a rendition of a British empire 'fusion', our version of British estates found throughout Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. 2 years and $5,000,000 later, we hope that we succeeded!

It was time to get away. Carmel, Monterey somewhere. I went online and saw alot of possibilities. We only had one requirement, wherever it was it had to be pet friendly. Our year old Mastiff goes everywhere with us so this was a must. I found a place called the "Aloha Cottage" in Carmel. It looked beautiful. We contacted the owner, he got right back to us and we set it up.

It seems like your miles away from anything but you're just a mile or two from the beach, shops and restaurants. It was perfect . Spent most of our days at different beaches between Carmel and Monterey. At night, between the two cities there are many great restaurants and if you want to hit the bars Cannery Row is great. All in all the cottage was fantastic and the great variety of local places to go for the day or for dinner was really surprising. We had a great time and would definitely recommend it for anyone who just needed to get out of the valley for a week or two and relax at a place where you can do pretty much anything you would like

Amazing Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We are two working professionals from LA who were looking for a quiet place to go and relax. We truly found this at the Aloha Cottage in Carmel!!! As we walked into the cottage that was tucked away in a peaceful neighborhood, there was a sense of heartfelt welcome not only because of the beautiful architecture/landscape, but also due to the amazing attention to details. They had unique snacks, a full selection of drinks for the Keurig coffee maker and nearly 300 movies to enjoy on iTunes! The owners really go above and beyond to ensure that their guests feel invited and very comfortable.

Our first morning there, we got to meet Martin. It was such a pleasure to meet him after exchanging emails, which were thorough. We especially appreciated his 5 day itinerary, with activities and dining options. There were so many places to choose from. We got lunch from 5th Ave Deli, ate dinner at Flying Fish, and had French pastries from Patisserie Boissiere Restaurant and Lafayette Bakery & Cafe. The Monterey Aquarium (they generously shared their 2 guest passes) and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve (with amazing ocean views) were both an easy drive from the home.

Next time, we hope to visit with a few other couples and rent out the Main Residence at Aloha Estate to rest again in peacefulness and share new memories. If you’re looking for a truly relaxing getaway (and not have to worry about noisy hotel/B&B “neighbors”), check this place out; you will not be disappointed! The best way to describe our time was that we did not feel like renters but rather guests of Martin's home. Thank you!!!

We have stayed at the Cottage and the Main House. We felt so grateful that the owner, who is so great and accommodating, shared his amazing, gorgeous property so that we could experience an amazing getaway. The grounds are so beautiful, quiet and relaxing. The outdoor BBQ with a prep area is incredible. Everything about this property from the Tommy Bahama theme to the big, cozy beds is perfect! You can experience an awesome time for two or with a few friends. Perfect place for a reunion of special friends. Please treat yourself. You won't want to leave!

A Golden Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent the weekend at the Aloha Cottage and loved it! We were able to bring our Golden Retriever with us which was an added plus. There is not much I can say that hasn't been said by others, but please know that it is all true! It is a wonderful cottage that has everything you could want. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back!

Exceeds (my very high )expectations

  • 5 of 5

Recently, my large family enjoyed an escape and reunion to Carmel. I have "vrbo-ed" literally all over the world. Often the reality of what you get is close to or meets what you see in the listing (and sometimes falls short!). BUT, absolutely NOT the case here. Honestly, the photos do not do this place justice. Truly a luxurious stay with great attention to detail throughout! We rented both the house and cottage and loved the entire place - especially the exterior patio space where we grilled, entertained one another under the pergola. Details such as all 3 fireplaces ready with kindling and fresh wood, syrups for the espresso machine even aluminum grill grate covers illustrates how the owner ensures that everything is considered for a carefree stay. The owner is easy to work with as we transacted everything in a few quick emails within days of renting the place. The home is a great base from which to explore with the village a short walk away. The sleeping rooms are all very comfortable and the master a great escape with an in room fireplace, full A/V system, huge MBR bath retreat. The media room was our gathering spot for board games and a great movie space. There is a gym room where the girls worked out each day and a separate family room with fireplace where I lounged, managed some email and calls with my clients and caught up on my novel (and a great afternoon snooze!) WHile we prefer an ocean view typically and that was what we were actually seeking; I am fully delighted that I stumbled upon this magnificent gem. To prove my point, we are actually seeking dates to return soon.
