A stay at Sierpe del Pacifico is Costa Rica at its finest...remote and comfortable accommodations...nature in its purest form all around you...make sure to watch our promotional'll be sold in seconds!

This is your chance to completely escape the monotonous grind of everyday life and rejuvenate your body and mind with a healthy dose of natural beauty, active adventure, and cultural authenticity. All five senses will be on full alert here…each one contributing to an overall sense of joy and relaxation. Start your mornings with the sounds of howler monkeys, the sight of tropical sunrises, and the aroma of Costa Rican coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. Fill you days with a plethora of river, ocean, or rainforest adventure – all available directly from your front steps. Finally, wind down the evening watching the flight of white ibis across the sunset over Isla Violin with a cold cervesa or mojito in hand. Sound like paradise to you...we think so too!

Our 905 sq. ft. cabina is part of the Sierpe del Pacifico eco-adventure community located along the elevated banks of the Sierpe River in Costa Rica’s world famous Osa Peninsula. Dubbed by National Geographic magazine as the world’s most bio-diverse place, the Osa is the last bastion of untouched wilderness, tranquility, and privacy in Costa Rica.

Our cabina’s location on the Sierpe River – a fully navigable river that flows into the Pacific Ocean – serves as a direct connection to all of the best adventure activities that Costa Rica is known for. Accessible directly from the front steps of the cabina are 5 kilometers of hiking trails that weave through primary rainforest, wetlands, mangroves, and 3 tropical fruit filled gardens… all great for wildlife watching and birding. Feel free to help yourself to the fruit as well, the resident monkeys certainly do! Four kayaks are stored on-site and are yours to use for exploring the river and its tributaries. Are you a fan of fishing? If so, you’ll be glad to know that some sizable red snapper and snook have been caught from the two riverfront piers. For adrenaline junkies some pretty intense mountain biking and horseback riding trails connect the SDP property to the Mirimar mountain range to the south. Finally, if you just want to sit back and enjoy the wide open views of three coastal mountain ranges, Isla Violin, and the daily flights of macaws, toucans, and parrots over the river, two additional hill-top scenic overlook verandas are just a couple minutes walk from the cabina.

In addition to the on-site activities, it is highly recommended that you arrange for a variety of tour boats to pick you up at the riverfront dock for some of the ocean related activities that have made this area so popular with tourists. Favorites include deep-sea fishing (world class in-shore and off-shore), snorkeling, diving (Costa Rica’s most renowned), wildlife watching in Corcovado National Park, Cano Island hiking, snorkeling, surfing, beach cruises, and dolphin and whale watching. All of these tours can easily be arranged for you by the owner and are of a very high quality.

The cabina itself is less than a year old and was built in the signature Sierpe del Pacifico “refined rustic” style. Large beamed exotic hardwoods combine with lofted ceilings and ample use of micro-mesh screened windows to emphasize views of, and harmony with, the natural surroundings. A 215 sq. ft. veranda has rocking chairs, a breakfast nook, and lounger available to relax in while enjoying the amazing views. Despite being very isolated and completely “off the grid here”, a well appointed solar system, on demand hot water, and 3G cell phone coverage will keep you comfortable and connected. A queen-sized orthopedic mattress comfortably sleeps two in the main bedroom, a full sleeps two more in the downstairs bedroom, and a pull-out futon and air mattress can accommodate two more. There are spacious 3/4 baths with high volume/pressure showers in both the upstairs and downstairs. The kitchen is fully stocked and features island seating for six, a gas range/oven, and a sizable refrigerator. For entertainment purposes there is a stereo/CD player/ipod adapter, and books and board games. 3G cell phone service at the property is very good and can provide broadband internet to cell phones and laptop connect cards.

Upon your arrival by boat (it’s the only way to get here) the boat captain will walk you up the access road to the cabina and help you with your bags. The beds will be made, the fridge will be cold, and linens and towels will be available for the duration of your stay. Maid service can be arranged for an extra charge. For your safety and convenience there is an on-site caretaker who lives a few hundred yards away. A cell phone will also be provided to you for emergency contact and booking of tours.

While the enjoyment of our river retreat provides the ultimate in tranquility, beauty, and seclusion, it must be said that this experience is better geared towards those who are adventurous, independent, and enjoy physical activities. The walk to the cabina from the boat dock is the equivalent of a few blocks and involves a large hill. While the cabina is brand new and provides a wide range of modern comforts and conveniences, you must remember that you are “off the grid” and in the middle of a tropical rainforest. This cabin does not have air conditioning, but 4 overhead fans and a design utilizing cross-ventilation measures keeps the cabina comfortable. In our version of paradise we sacrifice air conditioning for air of the purest condition!

This home is not suitable for children aged 2 or younger or the infirm. Ask about suitability for children aged 3-6 and the elderly.

About Cassidy Scheer

Along with my uncle and father, I own this rainforest retreat and spend between one and two months a year here. We own several vacation properties in Costa Rica, but this one is our favorite. The private and pristine nature of the rainforest/river environment and easy access to the Sierpe River and Pacific Ocean keep us entertained and engaged on so many levels. Kayaking the river, mountain biking through the jungle, fishing the ocean and enjoying a coffee, book, and a sunrise from the veranda are amongst my favorite activities to enjoy while here, however every day seems to bring a new, exciting, and ideal mix of adventure and relaxation.

Cassidy Scheer purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Cassidy Scheer chose Sierpe

The unique location of literally 'Where the Jungle Meets the River that Meets the Sea' provides the ultimate in eco-adventure opportunity. At any point of the day I can choose to partake in any activity involving the rainforest, the Sierpe River, or the Pacific Ocean. Due to the remote nature of the property, authenticity and privacy are guaranteed and my ability to relax is unparalleled. To be surrounded by this much greenery, see monkeys, toucans, and other diverse fauna in their natural environment, and be safely, comfortably, and conveniently removed from civilization is a very liberating and calming feeling.

What makes this cabin unique

While seemingly simple in design, our home in the rainforest is rich in aesthetic, craftsmanship, and detail. It is a sanctuary that is harmonious with its surroundings, at the same time provides a level of comfort and security one would not expect in the jungle. This sets a great tone for starting and ending your days of Costa Rican adventure from this property. This is a great place to relax and engage your mind, body, and connect with nature and loved ones.

Nature that is worth it in a house not very comfortable.

  • 3 of 5

The good thing about this experience was not so much the house as the wonderful environment that surrounds it and the enormous kindness and generosity of Guillermo (the person in charge of the house). With it we saw many animals and learned about the mangrove, etc. The mangrove and The Rover are really amaizing. We cayac and fish.

The house is not fully equipped: the kitchen is too basic, the mattresses are uncomfortable and the lighting is poor (in addition to having several lamps not working) The rooms are virtually incommunicated, so any child who is not encouraged to sleep in what feels a room isolated in the jungle (which is very understandable) can not sleep there. Cassidy esa nicee and respond very quick our inquiries and we had a very nice days but honestly the proposal is not described exactly, I think it should be more specific that one is isolated and that you can only reach the town in a boat that needs to be fixed in advance. At 4 pm there are no more transfers to the town or to the house. It is worth mentioning that to get to the house you have to walk a steep slope of about 300 meters. All these circumstances are clarified once one has already paid for the reservation. It also clarifies (after paying) that you have to carry a light suitcase, so probably you will need to leave some of your things In the car at the office. Neither the house nor its access are suitable for people in wheelchairs (which says the description). Also, the room and the bathroom inside The House are not isolated, that is, the wall does not reach the ceiling (so there's no privacy) It has a separate and more private room, but we couldn't use it becasuse our girls didn't want to sleep alone in the main cabain, separate from us (I don't blame them)

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed in the cabina for a week and it was incredible. Cassidy and Rayna made planning the trip a breeze, and Guillermo was very helpful when we got there and always responsive whenever we needed a ride into town. He was ready with the boat in Sierpe when we arrived, loaded our luggage into the boat, took us to SDP (10-15 minute ride), and then walked us up to the cabina and pointed out a few things, including the group of howler monkeys sleeping in the trees, during our walk up. The 95-99 degree heat was a little intimidating at first, but the ceiling fans in the cabina make it much better and at night it would cool off to upper 70s which made it very comfortable to sleep in. The walk from the pier to the cabina is uphill and can seem somewhat steep in parts, but makes it all the more worth it as you progress from the mangroves and forest floor to the canopy, where you're cabina is sitting perched overlooking the surrounding rainforest. Plus, you get used to that walk very quickly during your stay and we had some of our best wildlife viewing while walking on this trail. There are also numerous trails to hike throughout the property. I personally recommend the mangrove trail, which takes you through the garden where you can find some fresh fruit and then it proceeds along the river. We stocked up on some fresh limes and enjoyed them with our imperial beers. We just about ran out of batteries for our camera and took over 300 pictures during our first couple of days, which shows how much you can see while staying at SDP. One of our favorite moments was hanging out on the porch in the rocking chairs and seeing a three-toed sloth lounging high up in a tree during sunset just 100 feet away from our porch. We also took the kayaks out on the tributary near the pier and I tried fly fishing for a bit, but had no luck. My favorite activity was the night hike with Cesar. He is very knowledgeable and took us out on his farm and pointed out some amazing wildlife. It is a must for all adventure seekers! We also recommend getting out to Isla del Caño for a day, whether you snorkel or go fishing. They picked us up and dropped us off right at the SDP pier for all of these trips, which was very convenient. The town of Sierpe is full of friendly locals as well as a few shops and restaurants. If you love wildlife, hiking, camping, being remote, exploring, etc., this is the place to be. We will be returning here again in the future. Thanks again, Cassidy!

Adventure in the forest

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at this cabin in the forest. It was a trip of a lifetime. The cabin was just perfect. We were 6 in total and it was the perfect size. What an experience to be without any human sounds, just forest sounds, for 5 days. We loved the open design so that we felt like part of nature while we were in the cabin. Having Guillermo available to help was great. We went fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking through the mangroves, hiking in Corcovado and everything was such an adventure. We saw so much just from our own porch : birds, monkeys, sunsets, beautiful thunder storms etc. We enjoyed cooking "minimally" with the supplies that we bought when we arrived in Sierpe and carried up to the cabin.

Everything was exactly as the listing described, only more magical. Not for small children and definitely a steep hike to get to the cabin. But so worth it! No direct access to shops, so plan ahead and arrange a boat ride into Sierpe with Guillermo of needed.

We will be back and will definitely stay here again. Thanks Cassidy, Guillermo, Rayna, Ceasar and Oscar for this amazing experience!

Owner's Response: Hey Fabrice - We're glad to hear you had an enjoyable time at the cabina with your family! You're right, being up close and personal with nature is what really makes this experience so great. Everyone loves seeing (and hearing) the monkeys in their natural environment. I will make sure to pass along your compliments to Guillermo and the rest of the staff. Pura Vida - Cassidy
