As a child growing up in Orange County, I was fortunate that my parents took us to Hawaii every summer. We visited Lanikai Beach regularly. What a hidden gem Lanikai was at the time. I made it a goal to buy a home there one day. After living in several rentals in Lanikai, I finally found an empty lot in 1995. I sold my company in 1996 (the largest food business in Orange County owned by a woman at the time) and moved to Hawaii and built my dream home a year later.
Lori purchased this house in 2008
During the 80's, I was saddened to learn that many of the original Lanikai residents were selling their homes for financial reasons, and their old houses were being replaced with brand new buildings. I've always thought that some of these homes were so charming that Lanikai was losing a little bit of its Hawaiian character with the razing of each home. When this property came up for sale, I knew that it would be ideal as a rental just the way it was. It was only 3 houses away from our home, so keeping an eye on the property would be no problem. I love its corner lot location, abundant trees, and the entire property reminds me of old Hawaii.
Although the house has been remodeled, much of the charming original elements remain including the sliding wood and glass patio doors and the cabinetry. It is located at the far end of Lanikai and therefore has less traffic and noise... very quiet and private. The grounds are ideal for large family gatherings.
It is also just a 3 minute walk to our favorite beach cove and about 12 minutes to the world famous Lanikai Beach.
The new covered outdoor lanai is a hit with all our guests. With a large microfiber modular couch, kitchenette, dining table, ceiling fans, and a bamboo wall screen, it is a great place to hang out and relax listening to the birds and the ocean.
My family and I (3 kids) stayed in the single story private house steps away from the beach for Thanksgiving! It slept us all comfortably, an ample amount of beach toys, kayaks and space outside to enjoy the weather. Very nice patio or lanai in hawaiian is comfortable and we grilled and had quality time as a family. Lori was helpful with any further accommodations we needed. I will definitely stay here in the future. It was amazing for the kids, my husband and I had quality time, and the beauty of Lanikai doesn't get any better!
We had a family get away in october, there were 7 adults and 3 kids and the home was perfect! there was a lot of space and the home was supplied with everything you would need! The outdoor bbq gathering area was great, we really enjoyed all being together in this home, it was hard to leave! The location was perfect in Lanikai. The beach there is breath taking and the small town just a few minutes away (kailua) is a really cool town with lots of shops and restaurants. We got out to sight see everyday, but found lanikai to be our favorite spot! This property is highly recommended for families of all ages, it really is a great place to vacation together with a lot of space.
We had a diverse group of several families staying together for first time. It worked very well as Lanikai Palms has a lot of different places for groups and individuals to find their own space. The kitchen and outdoor BBQ got lots of use and worked perfectly for the group. Multiple microwaves and coffeemakers in different places helped too. Great chill location in Laniai, yet close to Kailua for everything you could need. We toured Oahu extensively and never hit traffic -- one hour to Waimea either way you go. A real treat to stay in such a traditional Hawaiian home with bamboo and breezes to keep us cool and beautiful plantings providing privacy from the road. Bob and Lori responded well whenever we needed anything.
Very traditional Hawaiian style house with lots of rooms and beds for everyone. Only one room has an air conditioner, all the rest have ceiling fans. There are 3 bathrooms (As there are 3 separate bed & ensuite units joined in the one house)
Its a very short walk to the small and big beach. Very quiet area with a one way loop street. In the evenings we sat outside under the big trees and the outdoor Lanai and cooled down after a big day of sight seeing.
This place was a great place to see the northern part of the island of Oahu and get away from the crowded areas of Waikiki.
The owners (Lori and Bob) were very helpful and friendly and they dropped in to meet us on the last night as they live nearby.
It takes around 20-30 mins (early morning) to drive south down to interstate to get back to Honolulu International airport
Great place for family reunions! We had 8 adults and 3 kids in our party and never felt crowded. Owners were super cool and helpful. Had all the gear you could want. Location was perfect, a couple of blocks to Lanikai beach.
Lori and Bob prepared our one week beach home to its best. After booking the home in January of 2015 for a weeks stay in April. In March, Lori called and informed me that the home needed repairs due to weather damages and asked if I could make alternate reservations at other vacation homes in the area. So I began to make inquiries at other vacation rentals without any success. In the mean time, Lori again called and informed me that she had made calls to contractors to come out and make the repairs prior to our arrival. We were relieved that she was able to accomplish this task since we had no other pending reservations for our stay on Oahu. Upon our arrival, Lori was at the home to greets us and gives us a tour of the property. It fit nicely for our group accomodations. The home was properly stocked with enough bedding for the number of adults in our party. Even the baths were properly stocked with enough supplies for a weeks stay. The location was excellent, only minutes from the beach with in walking distance and easily accessible to the main highways into town. We enjoyed hearing the birds singing and giving a wake up call each of the morning of our stay. The vacation home is located on a corner lot, so there was adequate space for parking vehicles in the driveway and along the Aalapapa Drive and Lanipo Street. We also stopped by Island Snow to purchase their delicious shaved ice made popular by President Obama and his family. And, had Teddy's original Bigger Burgers while shopping in Kailua town. These establishments are only minutes away from the home.
Thank you, Lori and Bob for making our stay a memorable and relaxing vacation.
We will call on you again!
Within walking distance to Lanikai beach and hiking trail. Lanikai access road provides safe and private walking / jogging lane. Kailua gym provides many activities including competitive badminton.
