About Gary or Laurie Hines

We are Gary and Laurie Hines and we have been married for 23 years. We have 3 children ages 28 (from previous marriage, lol), 19 and 12. We are not natives of Tennessee but visit the area often!

Gary or Laurie Hines purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Gary or Laurie Hines chose East

Our first trip to the Smokies was on a family trip with parents and we were hooked. We've spent most of our Christmas' there along with many, many other trips there and love the area! It is one of the most beautiful places on earth!

What makes this cabin unique

After looking at numerous homes, we chose this one because of the secluded neighborhood and the cabin was a newer cabin with an old time, cozy feel. We knew it was the one as soon as we walked in.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Laurie's Cabin was a wonderful place to stay..... I really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful area that the Cabin was in. I also was very happy to go to such a clean and "well stocked" Cabin. There was nothing in the Cabin that I wish I had remembered to bring. She had everything from blowdryers, hangers, silverware, dishes, pots, pans, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. The Cabin was very organized (imagine that...) and well maintained. I was honored to stay in such a wonderful Cabin such as Lauries. I would recommend it to anyone!! OH!! By the way, there is a great little grocery at the end of the road that sells a Cheesecake to die for!!! Love and Hugs, Ash

Our Honeymoon

  • 4 of 5

Would've been a 5 but cabin wasn't cleaned upon arrival. After driving 8 hours and this being our honeymoon we were disappointed. It was my wives first time to the Smokey Mountains. The owners apologized and refunded $65.00 because of the inconvenience & sent the cleaning crew out. Otherwise, very beautiful cabin. We highly recommend it.

Anniversary Retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was exactly as described in description and pics. Was easy to find if you go buy instructions on paper and not by road signs or GPS. Has everything you need if your going to stay at the cabin the whole time. If not, you will have to drive a little bit to get into town for any other fun. The owners were great to work with and answered any questions I had.

The only negative thing was the noise coming from the near by cabin above us. But, we also were there over labor day weekend. Maybe different on another weekend.

In all I would still recommend this cabin to anyone. Thanks for letting us stay.

Weekend for the eclipse

  • 5 of 5

Bear Hiney Hideaway is a beautiful cabin with excellent parking in the mountains. After finding our way there, we enjoyed the solitude and we really weren't all that far from the places we usually go: downtown Gatlinburg, the Island, Tanger Outlet and our favorite restaurants. It has all the amenities of home and we had no problems or concerns during our stay. We always use VRBO to find our places to stay and we're glad we found Bear Hiney Hideaway for this trip. This was one of our most restful stays in the mountains. We never heard a single vehicle roaring down the mountain and no construction nearby. The owners have tastefully decorated this cabin and it suited our needs perfectly. I would highly recommend Bear Hiney Hideaway to all for a quiet, restful vacation.

Great place to stay and wonderful owners

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin is beautiful and has everything that you need. We needed to communicate with Laurie and she responded almost immediately! It was so relaxing there and we just felt at home. The Cabin is secluded, yet close enough to Smokies, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge to easily get there to do the fun stuff. If we go back to that part of TN, we will stay there again!

Nice comfortable getaway

  • 5 of 5

Pros: Clean, comfortable, well equipped. Air conditioning worked great, washer and dryer work well, lots of kitchen appliances, hot tub was really clean and in great condition, remote location so off the beaten path a bit. For us the location was good. We wanted a mountain stay, not a commercialized Pigeon Forge experience. Quiet except for some noise from a large neighboring cabin on only one night out of seven. Extremely responsive owners, great to work with.

Things to consider: Charcoal grill only (tastes great but takes awhile), remote location so off the beaten path a bit. Could use a few more pots and pans if you plan on cooking a lot. Has a loft for second bedroom so lights and noise could be an issue if you have small children you need to get to sleep (we did not so not an issue).

Overall a really cute clean and nice cabin in a mountain setting. I would definitely stay here again.
