About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5) + Attached Unit available

This apartment, named 'Achille', has recently been renovated in high detail, and is located in a small piazza in the very heart of the city, just a 5 minute walk east of the Duomo. It is also just minutes from Piazza San Marco and Piazza Santa Croce. The apartment is 1 of 7 in a 17th century patrician building, with at ground level a large entry in the style of that period. Surrounded by shops of all types, it is also in close proximity to a large city supermarket, and the fruit and vegetable market of Sant’Ambrogio. The gamut of excellent restaurants and famous trattorias in the immediate vicinity are unlimited!

“Achille” is on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and measures 123 sq.meters / 1324 sq.ft. It sleeps maximum 5, is fully furnished, and is light and airy. Ideal for a family of 4 or 5. The entry hall leads into a large living room with fireplace and facing north onto a large, sunlit, plant-filled courtyard. The adjoining master bedroom faces the lovely courtyard and has an ensuite bathroom (tub/shower) and independent toilet. To the other side, the double bedroom also faces the same courtyard, and has a bathroom (shower). The additional single bedroom can also serve as a study. The large “sunken” kitchen/dining area is 9 steps down into a charming and cozy ambiance. It has an open-beam ceiling, a high-tech stainless steel workspace with lots of counter space; it includes stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. The dining table is for 6. There is a small laundry/utility room, with washing machine.

The apartment has newly laid hardwood “Doussier” floors and is furnished in an interesting mix of classic and modern styles. Bathrooms are decorated with Stucco Veneziano and have all new fixtures. Thick walls and double-glazing ensure quiet, and thermal insulation. There is central heating, air conditioning, Wireless Internet Access, Digital TV, satellite hook-up and DVD. Kitchenware and linen are supplied. Maid service is available on request.

An independent and fully equipped 1 bedroom apartment (sleeps 2), also owned by us and named 'Gea', faces 'Achille' on the same 3rd floor landing, and can be rented together with it, to accommodate a larger group of 7 persons. (See listing #302215.) Please see our website for details. Our Skype buddynames: 'florenceapts' and 'emylina'.

About The Owner

When Emily Rosner took a semester off from her studies at New York University to travel around Europe, she had no idea that she'd end up meeting the man who would become her husband, Maurizio. In 1970 when she arrived, Florence had an exciting atmosphere with the numerous anti-war movements that students were organizing. It was far different from suburban Long Island, where Emily was from. She soon found herself a part of a group of 20 or more students that would meet every night and discuss politics over dinner. Among them was Maurizio. As do many expats who arrive in Florence without a plan, Emily went out looking for work, first finding a job at a disco, and then at a leather shop in Santa Croce.... ----- Article from 'The Florentine' - Oct 22nd, 2009 The rest is history! Maurizio and I got married and had two boys, Jacopo and Arturo. In the beginning, I taught English and developed audio/visual courses to teach English to children. We opened our bookshop in 1979, and it has become a watering hole for the entire Florentine expat community, a must-stop for English-speaking tourists, and an important textbook supplier for foreign study programs. After being in Florence for most of my adult life, I still find time to appreciate the city. I often stop while riding my bike across Ponte alla Carraia, taking a moment to enjoy one of the most splendid views of the river and the city. When I am walking around the city center, I make a concerted effort to look up and notice the details of the buildings. Florence never ceases to surprise me, in all of its beauty!

Beautiful Home in a Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

This spacious apartment in the heart of Florence was everything that we hoped for. The high ceilings , the attractive, comfortable furniture, the detailed instructions placed in each room to answer all of our questions - all came together to make our stay very enjoyable. We certainly got our cardio workouts as we climbed the 63 stone stairs to the Achille flat, but it was worth the climb once we opened the door. The well-appointed state-of-the art kitchen was a real plus for us. We made a couple of breakfasts there during our stay, which helped us to economize. Emily is so friendly and welcoming - it was a pleasure to meet her.

Our stay in Florence was fantastic due to being able to reach everything in minutes from this beautiful property. It was a long flight of stairs, but worth don't let that stop you, it became easier after the first time. The owner has every amenity of a home. Our family of five adult really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here next time in Florence.

Great stay in Florence

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in Emily's place. It was spacious, had a great kitchen and everything we could possibly need. It was very centrally located and all sites were a short walk away. Recommendations for restaurants were excellent. Go to Marione for good pasta and bistecca Alla Fiorentina. For beautiful purses and leather don't miss Infinity Leather Artisans on Borgo SS Apostoli, 18. The owner Jane is helpful and the artistry is beautiful. We highly recommend staying here and would do it again! Thanks Emily and Mauricio!!

Fantastic family vacation in Florence!

  • 5 of 5

Emily was wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. She was very responsive when we had questions or needed further information regarding restaurants, sites, shopping etc. The internet router was not functioning properly with our iPhones and Emily had someone out to fix the problem within hours of our arrival......just amazing! The flat is beautiful, well equipped and suited for our family of 4 but could have accommodated more if needed as one of the bedrooms wasn't even used by us. The location is perfect, close to all major sites, the duomo was a short 10 minute walk. Shopping was close by for stocking the kitchen and the available restaurant options in the area were overwhelming to say the least. Never a bad meal out entire trip! I would highly recommend renting this beautiful flat, with it's location on the fourth floor, we had the added bonus of knocking off some of our daily exercise routine.......more pasta :-)! We hope to make another trip back to Florence in the future and will look forward to working with Emily again!

Myself and 3 others ladies spent a week at Achille. Emily was wonderful to work with from the start and very accommodating (was very patient with my constant questions and emails!). The apartment is lovely and spacious with wonderful windows to open and listen to the Duomo bells chiming. Yes the stairs took some getting used to but they were an excuse to eat more gelato. The apartment had everything we could possibly need and was in a really great, central area of Florence. We could walk to just about anywhere within 5-20 minutes. There is a nice grocery store/market around the corner, coffee shops downstairs and across the street plus a bus stop on the corner. You won't be disappointed in staying here!

Excellent stay at Achille

  • 5 of 5

Our small group of 3 women thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Florence at Achille. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and updated beautifully. We enjoyed being able to open the windows, peering out onto other apartments and courtyard below. Two bedrooms are very spacious; the studio bedroom is small. The studio is also where the TV is housed. All of the beds were comfortable and clean.

The renter is charged separately for electric use and we found no problem with that. The cost was quite reasonable as we used the AC mostly at night only.

The location is great. The square in front of the building is mediocre, but just beyond there is a great vibrant area. Walking to any other part of Florence is a breeze from this apartment. There is a grocery just one block away and an outdoor market close by as well. The train station was only about 20 minutes at a slow walk.

Emily was fantastic, meeting us promptly at the apartment. She took great time in explaining everything we needed. We felt very safe there, and furthermore felt assured that we could call on her if needed.

We cannot wait to return again!
