Villa la Angostura is a beautiful small resort town nestled in the Andes of northern Patagonia. It is only an hour drive from the Bariloche airport (2-hour flight from Buenos Aires). The area is characterized by beautiful mountains (part of the southern Andean volcanic belt), huge lakes offering sailing and boat tours, and fantastic rivers offering world-class trout fishing, kayaking, and rafting. Thus, many summer and winter activities are available; 4 ski areas are within a 3-hour driving radius, with the closest area only 20 minutes from the house.
The house sits on top of a moraine ridge between two large lakes. It is on a large lot with an award-winning garden and views to Lago Correntoso and Lago Nahuel Huapi. Both lakes and the river connecting them (Rio Correntoso) are a short 15 minute walk from the house, and offer swimming, kayaking, and fly fishing. Villa la Angostura town center is only a 5 minute drive (or 1/2 hour walk) and offers many restaurants and shops.
The house has a 1-car garage and off-street parking, and is fully furnished with modern furniture. The large living room has a marvelous view of Lago Correntoso and the surrounding mountains.

We live in Colorado, but much of my work is in South America. Therefore, we purchased this house as a base from which I can pursue my work and we can pursue vacation activities in the Patagonia region. The house is available for rental during much of the year.
Barbara Nevins purchased this house in 2004
We selected this region of northern Patagonia not only because of the easy access (2-hour flight from Buenos Aires then 1-hour drive), but because of its incredible natural beauty and the vast array of outdoor activities available. In addition, the site is very close to Chile along the international highway 231: 32km to Chile, 72km to Termas de Puyehue (very nice hot springs resort), 140km to Pan-American highway, and 240km to Puerto Montt.
Benefits of this location include: neighborhood is extremely peaceful, yet only 5 minute walk from international highway to Chile; many excellent restaurants with superb Argentinean cuisine and wine; can walk from house to lakes, or hike from house up to mountains with spectacular views; winter sports activities nearby (skiing, snowboarding); summer sports activities nearby (boating, sailing, kayaking, fishing, mountaineering); Bariloche (130,000 population) is 1-hour drive; San Martin de los Andes is 2-hour drive north on the Seven Lakes Road (Camino de los Siete Lagos) which is a spectacularly beautiful drive to a very nice tourist town.
The house is on the edge of the village, close to everything and not isolated, but in a quiet neighborhood. Lovely views are as advertised. Everything in the house worked as expected (and appliances are obviously newish). The house is huge for our small group, plenty large enough for more. There are friendly neighbor dogs. The village has many excellent restaurants. Highly recommended.
Spacious, spotless, quiet, nice landscaping, great view of lake & mountains. We'll be back.
Our party of four (two couples) stayed at this lovely property during a fly fishing trip to Argentina. The home is absolutely stunning, clean, comfortable and well maintained. This is truly a home away from home. The view of Nahuel Huapi Lake is icing on the cake. The property is at the edge of the Nahuel Huapi National Park with easy access to many lakes and scenic areas, hiking, horseback riding, skiing and world class fishing. The property is a short walk to the lake. Town is a few kilometers away where visitors will find nice restaurants and shopping. I would recommend this property to those who want a quite homey place to stay just far enough from the hubbub of town.
Termas de Puyehue is 5-star resort in Chile only ~1 hour drive from house. Drive the Camino de los Siete Lagos to San Martin de los Andes.
