Glacier National Park Visit

  • 5 of 5

This location was great for exploring both sides of GNP, about 90 minutes to Many Glacier (east) and about 2 hours to Bowman Lake (west). The cabin was extremely clean and had everything we needed and more. Gary (owner) checked with us each day to ask how our day was, what we did, and if we needed anything. The welcome basket and fresh flowers were a great extra touch, and the hospitality was five star. There is a train which is pretty loud if you're out on the patio, but barely heard when inside the cabin. If we return to the area we would definitely stay here.

Gorgeous cabin with fabulous hosts

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed 3 nights at Gary and Theresa's rental home in Essex. It is a beautiful, well maintained and decorated, spacious cabin that was spotlessly clean when we arrived. We were warmly greeted by Theresa (Gary was out of town) and welcomed at the cabin with fresh flowers and a basket of goodies including fruit, wine and homemade apple butter. The cabin has anything you could possibly need other than food for meals. There was a beautiful, fully furnished laundry room (which we took full advantage of), pantry staples, condiments/dressings in frig, matches, ziplock bags, and full large bottles of shampoo/conditioner in shower. All very much appreciated. The main negative on the cabin is the road and train noise as the cabin is within about 100 ft of a busy road and just beyond that a set of train tracks. If that is not a deal breaker, I'm sure you will be very comfortable in this rental and Gary and Theresa will make you feel like long lost friends or family within minutes. The rental is within 30 minutes of West Glacier and Two Medicine, making it a convenient location for visiting most of the park. It is quite a bit further to Many Glacier. We would definitely consider returning to this rental if we revisit the area.

Best cabin ever!!

  • 5 of 5

You will find the sweetest, most caring cabin owners on the VRBO.com website. Yes, it's right off the highway and near the RR tracks but if you have spent most of the day at Glacier NP you won't care! All you will want is peace, quiet and a comfortable bed.

The cabin is stocked with everything, even some canned foods and lots of spices. But the best of the cabin is the wonderful owners who will greet you with hugs, flowers and a basket of goodies. We've stayed at lots of VRBO places but nothing compares.

Theresa and Gary are very friendly but not imposing. Since Gary was leaving town he came to say good-bye knowing we would be gone before he returned. Theresa came over one evening filled with joy, to tell us that she had a new granddaughter. From the moment we arrived we were not just renters we were friends.

There is a reason that all the reviews are 5 stars but if it were up to me mine would be 10. I will probably never return here but the Steffens will forever live on in my heart and mind. Thank you for being such a terrific couple and making us feel so welcome.

Our only disappointment was not being able to stay longer! We LOVE Gary, Theresa & their cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is an awesome cabin on a beautiful property, conveniently located between West and East Glacier. The gorgeous cabin is equipped and stocked with everything you could possibly need during your stay. While the cabin is a "stand out" on its own, our stay was made twice as nice by its owners, Gary and Theresa. They showed us unparalleled hospitality that made us feel like we were visiting caring and fun-loving family. Choosing this property for our wonderful time in Glacier was the best decision we made when planning our vacation. Our only disappointment was not staying longer. As Theresa says, however, "It's not goodbye... it's see you later"! If we are lucky enough to make a return trip to Montana, we will definitely stay here again and we look forward to staying in touch with Gary and Theresa.

The cabin....

The mid July days were very warm but the nights were cool. We opened our windows each evening and turned on the ceiling fans and were VERY comfortable. There is a train that runs frequently across HWY 2, but after the first night we didn't even notice it (even though I am a light sleeper). We made most of our meals at the cabin and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. The grill came in quite handy as well. Both bedrooms have a comfie queen size bed and one bedroom is on the main level - perfect for our family of 3 (2 adults + 1 teen), with additional bunk beds upstairs that we didn't even use. Having 2 full baths was a must for us and these were fully stocked with tons of towels, paper products, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc. We took advantage of the wonderful laundry room - also fully stocked.

The location....

This property has a beautiful mountain view. Access to the middle fork of the Flathead river is just down the road (walking distance) and it is a beautiful fishing location. The cabin is a short drive to the West Glacier (Apgar) entrance, which is a great place to start your visit to GNP. It is also a convenient distance to the airport, Columbia Falls, Whitefish and Big Fork. Though a bit longer drive to the East Glacier entrance, its nice to have an alternative to reach attractions like St Mary's and Many Glacier without having to take the slow (though gorgeous) route over the Going to the Sun Road.

Bottom line (if you couldn't tell by the length of this review)....we loved everything about our stay at this cabin!

Everything we hoped then some!

  • 5 of 5

My 15 year old son and I stayed at Gary and Theresa's cabin the first week of July during our mom/son adventure. We selected it due to the central location between West and East Glacier. The reviews were great so my expectations were high. We were not disappointed. The location served as a great base camp for our hiking, fishing and whitewater rafting trips. The cabin was by far the best VRBO we have stayed in. We felt as though we were staying with family rather than in a rental. Theresa said only bring our personal stuff and food items and that a basic supply was available. We should have checked out the stock before we shopped because she wasn't kidding. We ended up with way more food than we needed and left some for the next guests. The thing that really made a difference was the welcome and hospitality from Theresa and Gary. The welcome basket and fresh flowers were such a nice gesture. We spent time getting to know them both and shared many stories and laughs. My son really bonded with Gary and that was sweet to see. Gary even rigged him up a fishing pole so he could try his hand at river fishing. Theresa is a jewel and makes sure you have EVERYTHING you need during your stay. Yes, there is a train and a road. The train runs through much of the area including the tourists areas on both sides of the park so good luck avoiding it. We didn't mind it. I actually got used to it after a couple days. Bottom line...this cabin is great and you will love staying there and exploring the gorgeous Glacier National Park.

Beautiful cabin - Theresa and Gary are the perfect hosts!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the cabin - perfectly situated midway between the East Glacier and West Glacier park entrances. The cabin is beautifully appointed. Upon arrival at the cabin, there were flowers in a vase and a welcome note and basket (including a bottle of wine.) The cabin was immaculately clean. There was a fantastic fire ring and Gary started a fire for us one evening - we made s'mores using the ingredients that were in our welcome basket, so fun! Theresa did a fantastic job of communicating with me from the moment I contacted her about booking the cabin. She's just fabulous!

The only draw back is that this beautiful cabin is set really close to a loud highway and train tracks. We visited during the summer and needed to keep the windows open. Advice: Bring your ear plugs!

Owner's Response: Terri, thank you for the lovely review! It seems that it took longer to open going to the sun road, which meant more than normal traffic. We do have ear plugs available for you, for we are avid Nascar fans. Loved having you guys!!! Sincerely, Theresa and Gary
