About the property

3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Bath Home with Mountain Views

Explore the Olympic Peninsula from this private home located on a hilltop near the Hood Canal Bridge, 25 minutes from the Kingston ferry and 45 minutes from the Bainbridge Island ferry. Or, relax on the wrap-around deck and enjoy the fantastic view! The house looks west to the Olympic Mountains, east to the Cascades and Mount Baker, south to the Hood Canal, and north to Puget Sound.

Comfortably furnished with antiques, this 3 bedroom, 3000 square foot house has the perfect floor plan for a family vacation. The master bedroom suite is on the main floor and opens onto the deck. A second bedroom with 4 single beds is on the same floor. A third bedroom and the TV/rec room are in the daylight basement.

The master bedroom has a queen bed and a large attached master bath with walk-in shower and large jacuzzi tub. Perfect for the adults!

The second mainfloor bedroom comfortably sleeps 4. It has 2 twin beds, plus a day bed with a pop-up trundle. A full bath w/ shower and tub is just around the corner. Perfect for the kids!

The third bedroom has a queen-size bed, and is across the hall from a full bath and next to the downstairs TV room/den with a queen-size sleeper sofa. This arrangement is perfect for teens, or a second couple.

Enjoy the views from the open dining/living room. It has a high vaulted ceiling, a wood-burning fireplace, and floor to ceiling windows. The dining room table easily seats 8. The large, open kitchen has 2 stoves, a breakfast counter that seats 4, and is fully stocked with staples.

In the summer you will want to relax on the deck. A patio table and several patio chairs are provided, along with a gas grill.

The house is at the end of a mile long private road, so there is very little traffic, no noise, and lots of privacy. The 2 acre property has a large swing set/play structure for the kids, several flower gardens, and lots of room to run around and explore. Because of a unique location--near a forest on the edge of a meadow--there are several varieties of wild birds in the area, from hummingbirds to hawks. Bird feeders attract them to the garden, where they are easily viewed from the deck and dining room. If you are a bird lover, you will love this house.

The Port Ludlow Resort is nearby. There you will find kayaking, boating, 3 9-hole championship golf courses, hiking trails and restaurants.

The house is just minutes from Highway 104 and the Hood Canal Bridge, which makes it a perfect location for day trips in every direction. Or, don't drive anywhere: just step out the door, take a stroll down the private road, and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.

About Marion Clemens

I grew up in Washington, and bought this house so we could spend the summers and school holidays there with our 2 kids. The house is really our second home, and has everything from satellite TV to wireless internet. When I'm not out in the garden I enjoy sitting on the deck and watching the sun set over the Olympics. The rest of the year we live in Chicago, and I miss the mountains.

Marion Clemens purchased this house in 2004

Why Marion Clemens chose Port Ludlow

The house is at the very top of one of the highest hills in Jefferson County, and has 180 degree unobstructed views of Hood Canal, the Olympic mountains and Puget Sound. The view is just amazing!

What makes this house unique

By far the best feature of the house is the view, and the fact that you can see mountains or water from every room. We recently enlarged the deck, and put in a tempered glass railing system to maximize the view. The other unique feature is being off the main road, so you have peace and privacy, as well as great walking or jogging paths right out the front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have been in this wonderful house for a year. We were burned out of our home last May and it was such a relief to have a peaceful place to come home to. Every room has a view. In good weather, we didn't leave the deck until the sun set over the mountains. Spectacular. We watched the "meadow" change with the seasons, each one lovely.

The neighborhood is quiet but friendly. The house accommodated my whole family, with 7 children, when they came to visit. Toys and books are provided, as is a very nice outdoor gym set. House is fully stocked with linens, cooking utensils, dishes of all sorts.

It is with some regret that we leave for our home 6 miles away. We are thankful for our time here and will always remember this second home and lovely area.

Spacious rental with plenty of windows and deck overlooking wonderful views

  • 5 of 5

This rental was a perfect choice for our family reunion. Sleeping arrangements worked well for us. The house was well equipped allowing us to grill on the deck or prepare meals in the great kitchen. Central location of the property allowed us to explore the area, Port Townsend, a great Seattle day accessed from the Bainbridge Island ferry, hiking in the Olympic National Park, and even a day trip to Victoria B.C.

Beautiful sunsets on the deck. Excellent location for day trips to area hiking, kayaking, Seattle.

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable accommodations for family and friends to enjoy relaxing on the deck with amazing views and birdwatching. Sunsets are especially spectacular. Lots to do nearby and even more adventure awaits for day trips. We stayed for a long weekend and explored so much of the Pacific Northwest. We would highly recommend this house and location. We hope to return soon!

Three generation family trip

  • 4 of 5

Spacious house for the 7 in our party. 6 had comfortable beds (the 7th was on a convertible sofa- not as comfortable). Large kitchen and dining area, lots of room to cook. Very large west facing deck with large grill and 180 degree views, to water at both north and south, Olympic mountains to west. Quiet neighborhood, many berry bushes and lots of wildlife right nearby. Car needed to find groceries, activities, etc, but lots to see and do within a short drive: Poulsbo, Port Ludlow, Port Gamble, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island. Port Townsend and Olympic National Park less than an hour away.

Wonderful family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our house on the hill was everything and more than we expected. Our family could not have been happier with our stay. From the welcome flowers and basket of goodies to the toys for the baby, everything was perfect. Our hosts even provided sunshine everyday and we enjoyed short walks near and around the neighborhood, the little playground area was a favorite for our toddler. The kitchen was well equipped, the laundry convenient. The only problem is there are so many places to go and see in the area, but you are so relaxed you just want to sit on the deck and look at the beautiful views!

Beautiful, spacious property in an amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect house for a vacation! Plenty of comfortable sleeping places, 2 living areas, and a large kitchen. The views are amazing and the proximity is perfect for visiting sites and cities on the peninsula as well as Poulsbo and even Seattle.
