Really Nice House - Minus The Fire Ants And Rooster

  • 3 of 5

The house was a very nice house, fully furnished and in a nice neighborhood. It would have been a great stay but for two issues. One was a rooster that started crowing at 4AM right outside the bedroom windows. The other more painful issue was fire ants. They were really small (2-3mm) and a somewhat clear to red-yellow color and the bite was like a bad bee sting that lasted for an hour. Both of us got bit three or four times by these ants. The ants were all over the bathroom.

This would be a great place to stay once the rooster and ants are under control.

Perfect vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

This lovely gem fit our needs perfectly. Located in a quiet neighborhood and just a short drive to downtown Hilo. This home is much nicer than what you see in the pictures. We visit Hilo twice a year, and will definitely book this rental again.

Our Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

We planned the first part of our family vacation home rental for our wedding in Kauai, Sept.30, 2016. It was beautiful! We did not lock in a vacation rental in Hilo. My new husband said we would be victims when we flew in to Hilo. We Stayed at the Hilo Seaside Hotel for 2 nights. We logged on to VRBO and found this beautiful vacation home was available! The owners were so kind. We felt comfortable and right at home knowing they lived just behind us. The place was so clean. It was our home away from home during our daily excursions. We thank the lovely couple for inviting us to stay at their home. We would recommend this home to those planning a trip to Hilo. We enjoyed our stay and would love to stay here again, but we will make reservations on advance. We did not become victims after all!

Wonderful Vacation Home - Plan to return

  • 5 of 5

This is a great vacation home -- the pictures do not do it justice. It is well furnished and a nice remodel. About 10 minutes from downtown Hilo and 2 hours from Kona, so it was very convenient to the major sights and activities that we wanted to see. The house was clean, spacious, and has nice features, especially the kitchen -- it was truly like coming home after our day's activities. We were fortunate to get to know the owners of the house and they immediately made us feel like family. They are a generous and friendly couple -- they truly showed us the Aloha spirit during our stay there. They recommended the Hawaiian Style Cafe in Hilo to us and that has become our favorite restaurant on the Big Island. We plan to come back again next year and hopefully this home will be available at that time.

Clean, comfy, and affordable

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. It was clean and comfortable and met all of our needs perfectly. The owner, Mayette, was always quick to respond to messages, and the price is pretty unbeatable. The house is in a quiet neighborhood about 10-15 minutes north of Hilo with a view to the ocean (though it's hard to find good swimming spots on the east side of the island).

The only thing I felt this house was lacking was an ocean-view lanai. (Granted, I think we were a little spoiled by the great outdoor spaces in some of the other houses we stayed!). There is a nice back yard with an outdoor table. One thing I really liked about this house was the privacy it afforded. The owner left the key outside, so we never actually met in person. Sometimes it's nice to meet the owner and get the scoop about the area, but other times it's nice just to show up and have the place to yourself. Overall the house is very comfortable at a great price and I would certainly recommend it.

Beautiful, Updated, Clean and Affordable

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful home just about a year ago. We were tired of the expensive hotel scene and really wanted a home away from home. This house was beyond our expectation. Beautiful, clean, updated, and everything we needed. The environment was cool, quiet, and relaxing! Loved that there was updated appliances and a washer and dryer. Travel time was just a mere 10 minutes away from town which we barely noticed because of all the beautiful scenery. The owner and the owners niece/daughter were so pleasant and accommodating. We will definitely be back!
