We just completed our $100,000 remodel creating a very unique and upscale unit. “Spectacular" is the word everyone is using to describe the place. You will not find another 1 bedroom like it in Menehune Shores, or in all of Kihei! We are looking to share our unit with those that appreciate the finer things in life. With that said, we do not offer any discounts, we would rather rent it less and reduce the wear and tear so it remains spectacular in the future.
Unit 412 is on the 4th floor in the front center of the building offering a very private lanai and is the closes you can get to the water. When you are sitting on the lanai you hear the waves flowing over the lava wall that creates the historical fish pond, while enjoying spectacular views/sunsets. During whale season (Jan – Mar) you can watch the whales as they breach. It’s extremely relaxing and romantic. The unit does have A/C in both the living room and bedroom, which is unique for Menehune Shores.
Menehune Shores is next to the historical 16th Century Alii (Royal) fish Pond of Kalepolepo.
Protected by off shore reefs, the pond provides safe swimming for children and those adults wishing to swim in the smooth waters of the pond. This is also a great place to swim with the green sea turtles. There is a solar heated swimming pool with a large sunbathing deck overlooking the ocean. Palm trees surround the grassy landscaped areas around the complex and there are miles of sandy beaches for sunning or strolling.
We are located next to the Whale Sanctuary where you can check on the history and informative information on the Humpback Whales, green sea turtles and other ocean creatures. On the south side of the Sanctuary there is a beautiful sandy beach for swimming and snorkeling. The rooftop garden is a great place to cook outdoors on our gas grills and enjoy the picnic tables for a family outing. From the rooftop you have a Spectacular panoramic view of the ocean, upcountry of Haleakala, West Maui Mountains, the island of Kaho'olawe, and the Molokini Island Crater. This is also a great place to watch the Humpback whales in season, (December through April)
For more island excitement there is a near by Canoe Club that will take you on a wonderful experience of a six man outrigger canoe ride.
The unit offers a Widescreen TV (with cable), Home Theater/Entertainment Surround System with blue-ray DVD and WiFi to connect to Netflix. There is high speed internet which can be connected either by a network cable (there is one onsite) or wireless. There is a printer for printing your boarding passes or directions to your activities.

This property is just what you see in the photos. It has one of the best views on Maui. It is located in a prime area of the building, which is located between two good beaches and facing an ancient Hawaiian fishing pond created by rocks in the ocean, which makes for safe swimming. The apartment has been completely renovated to a high standard. It is air conditioned, but the trade winds keep it cool much of the time. The management was very professional and friendly. There are a number of good, inexpensive, local restaurants within a 5 minute drive. We especially liked Coconuts Fish Cafe for take out to eat on the apartments lanai, and Nalu's South Shore Grill for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening entertainment. Both places have a lot of aloha.
I want to say that this place is terrible and give it a shoddy review, but only so that nobody else will book it and I can have my pick of future dates.
I think the highest compliment you can give a place like this is to say that you would stay there again. That is absolutely the case with this unit. My girlfriend and I loved it! The central location on Maui meant that we were not too far from anything and were actually very close to some world class beaches to the south. This unit had evey amenity one could want. Even the kitchen has all the accessories you might need! Air conditioning was a huge plus and breakfast/dinners on the lanai were wonderful. There were even beach chairs, a small cooler, and a sun umbrella, which we were not expecting. People looking for a large pool might want something else, but you should be going to Hawaii for the beaches, not the pools. The fish pond in front of the building is essentially a giant pool anyway as it is shallow and calm most of the day. The only thing we would change is that we wish the grills in the common area were useable later. The gas shuts off at 8pm (I think, might've been 9, but we found ourselves running up against it a couple times either way). All in all, a wonderful experience and we can't wait to return!
We booked this condo on our 2nd leg of a combo business/pleasure trip and found it to be everything we needed. The condo was stocked with everything we could have asked for as we do a lot of cooking ourselves and the kitchen remodel is lovely. The AC was a welcome relief as the afternoons do bake on that side of the island. But having the pool (warm and pleasant) and the little bay to swim in was so refreshing as well. The deck gave us fantastic views of the bay and any fish or turtles that were cruising around, which was all the time. Also really enjoyed the roof access as the sunset from up there was awesome. Overall, this was a solid experience and the set up and reservations through Ali'i went so smoothly and they made sure we had what we needed. Great jumping off point to explore the island with easy shopping for supplies nearby (Costco, Foodland and farmer's markets).
Came back to Maui to celebrate our 40th anniversary and decided to stay in Kihei. Found this great condo on VRBO and had a wonderful time. Everything was great - the reservation process was so smooth, I didn't have to worry about a thing even though our arrival time kept changing due to the wonderful airlines! The condo was everything we hoped it to be - close to the beach and within driving distance of everything we wanted to do. The unit was well equipped and we were happy to have AC in the unit - hate to be hot when sleeping. When we were at the condo, we spent most of our time on the lanai, at the pool or in the water. Loved the view! Also loved the fact that there were so many grills.
P.S this unit also has Air conditioning. Which was great. Not all units at menehune do.
This is our second time at menehune shores. First time in 412 . It is very beautiful. When walking into the unit. It looks like you could walk right into the water off the lanai. The turtle that is built into the floor tiles going out the sliding door. Adds a special touch. The unit, was very well equipped. Even supplied laundry detergent. It's very roomy. A huge counter top between kitchen and dining area. Very open. When in the kitchen preparing meals, you could still see all the view. There are plenty of grocery stores only about 5 min, away. Foodland was our favorite. Great steaks for the barbecues down front. We went to Mamas house for dinner one night. A bit pricey but worth it. We really didn't want to even go anywhere. What we came to Hawaii for,was out our front door. Would highly recommend this unit. But not when we want it.
