We have many rental properties in the Kilmarnock area. Although all but CAM Landing are yearly rentals. This is the house we will eventually retire to.
Marti purchased this House in 2005
Why Marti chose Northumberland County
We came to this area looking for land to bank for a future retirement house. We saw this land first and bought immediately. It was perfect for us. We then had to build or lose our building site so close to the water. Long story short, it became a vacation rental.

Perfect for girls getaway!
Beautiful and very comfortable home. Gorgeous views. I can not wait to go back in warmer weather so we can enjoy the outdoors a little more. House had everything we could possibly need. It was nice to get away and not be "connected" all the time. Close to town and shops.
Owner was very responsive and gave recommendations of where to eat etc..... I would love to rent the house again maybe for a little longer in the summer.
Come back often and any time you want. We thought you weren't here... you left the house spotless. I truly appreciate that. Thank you.
beautiful view.........nice house......conventient
use as a base to visit "back home" and family which is very conventient an nice
Very glad to have you back again. Thank you.
Lovely house with a BEAUTIFUL view!
Great house with lots of room. The view from the back deck is breath taking. Marti answered all our questions prior to our arrival. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone who wants to get away and relax, whether to fish or just sit on the back deck. The dock had ample room for (2) boats to dock. The marina is only a 10-15 minute boat ride away.
We will definitely be back!!
I am glad you enjoyed the house. And I agree, the view is breathtaking. I have a tendency to forget and as soon as I arrive and have time to sit down, you remember...
Absolutely beautiful property
Everything in the house was lovely prepared and clean we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the back porch watching the sunrise fishing off the pier and floating in the river excellent time
I am glad you enjoyed the place. Please come back soon.
Very clean cozy place
Beautiful house in a beautiful location. Well-stocked kitchen and nice accommodations. Would be 5+ stars with television and Internet access. Kids had a great time in the backyard and hanging out on the dock. Nice large kitchen table for playing family games. The appliances are all clean and well-maintained. The only improvements I would make would be a better mattress for the master bedroom and better window coverings.
Just an FYI, the mattress will be replaced in December and I will put up some other cutains asap. I am still resisting cable. Costs are high and I hate to have to raise my rates just to have everyone sit in front of the TV. Call it forced vacationing. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed my house.
Views For Miles, Birds for Days
Marti, thank you for sharing your lovely home with renters. It truly is a special piece of property. We loved the views out to the bay from the back deck. Photos don't do it justice. When we weren’t sitting on the deck enjoying the bay breeze and watching the herons nesting right above our heads (definitely something to see and hear these large creatures fly and roost high in the pines), we were fishing off the dock. Most of the time all we could hear were the herons, ospreys, and other birds around us - so peaceful! It is such easy access into town, where people are friendly and life is just a bit slower, but you feel like you’re worlds away when you turn off the road by the sheep farm. We were pleased to have newer cookware (makes eggs much easier) and pleasantly surprised to find not only a clean grill but a grill brush – something most owners don’t think of so we always bring our own. It was very nice to have fresh made beds and towels available. The only downside for us was that, even with the additional bed toppers, the mattresses were very uncomfortable. We didn’t really get a good night of sleep while there.
A few notes/suggestions:
-Extra blankets. If they were there, we couldn’t find them. The down comforter is a little too warm sometimes.
-The front door was a challenge to lock from the outside whenever we left the house, so we ended up locking it from the inside and going out through the side porch door.
-Address/location of the dump to drop off trash. We just took ours back with us, since we were leaving on Easter and assumed it would be closed anyway, but it might be nice to leave a note telling renters where to go.
I am giving in on the mattress issue. Although my husband of 26 years is not happy about it. I will be replacing it in December. You are correct about the dump and being closed on holidays, I think. Not sure what happened with the front door lock, works fine now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
