Our house is a “California Rancho” designed by noted local architect Cliff May. The property is filled with sunshine and is completely enclosed for privacy and has patios in front and in back. Constructed for easy living, it boasts many original architectural elements: an open floor plan, exposed post and beam ceilings, clerestory windows, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls. It will comfortably accommodate families on holiday, visiting grandparents, or business travelers. The property contains many fruit trees, ripening November through April, which provide the freshest-possible breakfast fare. The neighborhood is quiet – except for the birdlife – and is located a short walk from El Dorado county park with walking and bike trails, tennis courts, golf course, children’s playground, nature center and skateboard park. Diverse shopping opportunities lie about 0.5 Mile away.

The galley kitchen is fully-equipped to meet culinary wants, and a charcoal grill sits on the larger patio. You have your choice of eating areas from the formal and elegant maple dining table which can seat six, to the wrought iron & glass-topped patio table or small café-type table with umbrella. The living room is comfortably furnished and holds a large library available for your enjoyment. Each bedroom offers a queen-sized bed and large closet space. A small den area is open to the second bedroom. If extra sleeping arrangements are needed there is a sturdy folding bed and an air mattress stashed in the closet.

The house is situated minutes from the 605 and 405 freeways giving easy access to all southern California attractions – Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Queen Mary, ferry to Catalina Island, beaches and so much more….The Blue Line which runs between Long Beach and Los Angeles is a short drive from the house. The bus stop for downtown Long Beach is located 4 blocks away.

Our home is a comfortable place to enjoy breakfast coffee on the patio or to return to for a Bar-B-Q after an active day in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Why The Owner chose Ranchos

This property has been in the extended family for a number of years and is the place where we have met through the years to celebrate holidays, catch-up, unwind, and play. My sister and I decided to purchase the property last year when it became available so our families could continue enjoying Long Beach.

What makes this house unique

Our kids delight in picking fruit and then eating it for lunch. We love the quiet of the enclosed yard and knowing they can't run into the street is comforting. Sitting around with morning coffee and tea on the patio listening to the birds is special! Even on chilly days (mid-60s for the area) we'll sit at the table and enjoy the light entering the house from all the windows.

Great home away from home for our time in California!

If I moved back to Southern Cal, I'd want to live here!

Of course the neighborhood is safe and quiet - and is right near family - but I am in love with this little house! From your first step through the enchanting gate, it is apparent that it is a place of practical amenities as well as character. The completely fenced yard provides retreat-like privacy and safety for children to play. The unfussy landscaping includes several mature fruit-bearing trees, a lawn, rock garden, low-water garden, front and back patios with seating, as well as handy motion-sensitive lighting for safe night time entry. The charming house has maintained its mid-century character while providing updated kitchen and bathroom. And boy, will you love the abundance of hot water and great water pressure in the showers! If you are a bibliophile, you will never want to leave! Sadly, we had other plans while in So. Cal, and were not able to completely work our way through the wonderful collection of vintage books. We did, however enjoy the unusual phonograph collection! I would love to have met the obviously gracious lady whose tastes furnished the house with such interesting art and literature! Our visit was made all the more enjoyable by this charming bungalow to return to each day!

Home away from home!

We are already looking forward to our next stay at Volk House. Very well equipped, well maintained, comfortable and Dave and Linda are the most hospitable of hosts. We love the enclosed patios and appreciate the lawn service maintenance. Conveniently located to our family who live in Long Beach, to activities we enjoy and surrounded by great little places to eat or relax. Very safe neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Love it here!

This was our second time staying here. Linda welcomed us in the most warming way.

Great location, near everything. The house is immaculately clean and well equipped.

A Great Place to Stay!

We enjoyed staying in the Volk House for almost three weeks. The location was perfect for our family, and we enjoyed the nice, quiet neighborhood. We loved going to El Dorado Park and Nature Center, which was very close to the house. Shopping and restaurants were also convenient. The layout of the house, including the patios in the fenced-in front and back yards, worked out very well for our young grandchildren. Linda greeted us and provided the information that we needed. She was always prompt and professional with her correspondence. We would definitely stay here again.
