Great house but housekeeping issues.
We had a family reunion and a full house. We loved the location and the bedrooms were just what we needed to sleep all the children. Some housekeeping issues: light bulbs out in downstairs bath and in ceiling fan in great room; only three wine glasses, (I bought 4 and left them); no lighter for grill (I bought and left) 2 can openers that didn't work (I bought one and left); pans in kitchen were unclean and greasy, bedspread in downstairs was dirty. The stay was enjoyable and would probably stay again and hope housekeeping is addressed. I rent my home in at Smith Mtn. Lake in Virginia and would want my guests to let me know if housekeeping is substandard.
Nice home, clean
Our family stayed here for a week. It is a very nice home and clean. The carpet is a little dated, but in good condition. We did have to call maintenance to clean the hot tub (it didn't look like it had been used in awhile) and to unstop a toilet. They arrived promptly and took care of both. There were no signs of bed bugs. The only real complaint that we had was the owner's son parks a boat under the carport, and he came twice to request that we move our vehicles so he could get in or out. I am not sure what he would've done if we were all at the beach, but I wasn't concerned about it either. It was just an annoyance. Finally, we had a few days of rain and temperatures below normal, but the house was big enough that we were not all on top of each other, and we still had fun. Wish we could've called maintenance to fix the weather. We would definitely stay again. I wanted to mention also that we had an extremely difficult time with the wifi. If you stay here and also have to work, you will need another source of wifi.
My family and I stayed at this house for a week and had a great time. After reading the reviews about the bed bugs and all the complaints I became very concerned and spoke with management several times for reassurance about staying here. When we arrived at the house we stripped all the beds and checked for bugs which we found NONE We did find a few ants in a shower along with the outside water hose nozzle broken and management came out the same day of reporting it to take care of the issues. We never felt insecure by the public beach access because there was a fence separating the property We loved being able to sit on the back deck in the morning and watch the ocean and The hot tub was great There were several areas inside the house that could use a coat of paint and the carpet did show a lot of wear as well as the sofa and chair but being the end of a season I expected that The kitchen was well equipped with dishes to accommodate many people. The staff at Ocean Beach Drive Rentals were very nice to work with and we have already asked about renting this house again next year. Thanks for a great vacation
This place is gross. Far overpriced for what it is.
What we found:
Dead bedbugs and a live bedbug crawling across our pillow.
Mold on the shower curtain.
The couches have PARTICLE BOARDS under the cushions. They are extremely uncomfortable.
Mold in the kitchen sink.
A giant water damaged spot on the ceiling in one room.
No trash dumpster outside. There was a giant bucket that we could barely fit three full trash bags in.
Carpet is old and shabby.
Beds are awful and creak very loudly when you move on them.
All of the towels and linens are obviously purchased from an old hotel going out of business. Gross and old linens, towels, and blankets.
The beach access is public so people are walking by your cars and all your stuff and on the driveway all day.
The house is right in between two condo buildings so people are all around. No privacy. We had old men peeping at us from their condo balconies as we sunned on the porch.
There was no salt, pepper, or even a bit of toilet paper in the house. Every other house we have stayed in has at least had a little bit of those things.
The kitchen sink water does not get cold, only lukewarm.
The ice maker in the freezer does not work.
When we brought the issues to the attention of the property management they said there is nothing they can do and they will pass our complaints along.
We stay in a large home on the beach every summer. This has been the most expensive but the worst home we have ever stayed in. The owners (and we know he is a former senator) should be ashamed that the property management has let it get so bad.
Do not stay here. It's not worth what they ask. Like I said, we stay at a large house on the beach each year and I have never left a bad review on one. This house was so bad I had to leave a review.
Consider yourself warned!
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We apologize that the home did not meet your expectations. There are some things we'd like other travelers to know about this situation however. There was a pest issue, but was not reported until Friday, the day before checkout. Staff and pest control were at the home all night to correct the problem for the next guest checking in Saturday. There are NO bed bugs in the house at this time, and no further complaints have been received. There are small trash bins under the house to collect a few bags at a time, but there is a full size dumpster by the street at the end of the driveway, emptied by the city. It is very easily accessible, and we tried to communicate this to this guest. Trash removal is never a problem. We also send pre-arrival emails to guests so they can properly prepare for their stay, and in this info it clearly suggests to bring toilet paper, cleaning products, spices, etc. as we do not supply them. We understand that furniture, carpet, and other furnishings wear out during the course of a rental season, and guests who stay in late July and August may see more wear and tear than earlier in the season; this is normal for a rental property but we are working with the owner to make some updates to the home in the fall of 2016.
This house has a great location and great view and can hold a lot of people comfortably. Access to the resort is a great benefit and walking out to the beach was awesome. The porch is nice and wide and we sat on it and watched the fireworks.
We did have some issues with our stay. The hot tub was not working when we arrived. I called and reported it 4 times before someone came and they had to return as the first repair did not work. We were able to use it two days. The mattresses on most of the beds need to be replaced. They are sloped and uncomfortable. The owners have placed boards under the couches so they are very hard. Also, we had bugs. Ants, palmetto, and roaches. they were coming out from everywhere. My nephew said there were tons on the back porch at night. The house is right next to a public beach access so be prepared to lock up your items as people walk through the property at will. This is billed as a "luxury" accommodation but this cottage needs some work. Paint is in bad shape both inside and out, there were broken electrical outlet covers, and the ice maker didn't work. We reported all issues but they only fixed the hot tub and that was late in the week.
We had a fantastic time!!!!
My family and I loved our stay and felt right at home. We would love to go back again next year. It had great beach access, more room than we could use, and everything else you could want in a vacation home.
