Welcome to the beautiful Olympic Peninsula! We are glad you found us! We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!
We love living on the Washington Coast. There is so much nature surrounding us; it's really a special place!
We (three couples) stayed at the Nature House over the Ocean Shore The location was peaceful, and the house was the perfect size, in great condition, and just our style - comfortable from the very first moment. The upstairs deck was a favorite gathering place. The kitchen had everything that we needed to prepare two delicious dinners. And the beach...what can you say about being steps away from the Pacific Ocean? We all plan to return. Thank you so much!
My family really enjoyed our stay at the Nature Beach House. The home was perfect for our size family, it was well equipped for our needs. The walk to the beach included many deer sightings and the grandkids loved walking on the floating bridge. The deer were everywhere even on the property. We could hear the beach but not see it from the house. Despite a few minor missing housekeeping items (dishwasher soap & a couple of burnt out lightbulbs) our stay was perfect. Would most definitely consider another stay at this home.
The location itself and proximity to the beach was nice but right from the start the home was not as advertised. There was no kayak as promised and was barely "stocked" for a family trip. The tv downstairs did not work. The DVD player upstairs didn't work (difficult when you have a 3 and 6 year old). The walls were paper thin. The washing machine leaked. The water was disgusting and tasted of dirt and rust--so bad you could not use it to make coffee. The most shocking and horrific part was that we were there for Labor Day weekend with two dogs and 4 kids, 4 adults and on Monday the downstairs shower overflowed with feces. (We were there until Tuesday).
We called management because the next day the yard in which our children played was flooded with septic tank back up. We were told not to go into the yard or to use the bathrooms or water so we went into town. Everything was booked up so we could not move. I asked the owner to consider a discount as our experience was so bad but she could not give me the courtesy of a response.
The house was large enough for three couples and two small children (the kids slept in the same room as us). The house was nice--as pictured. We brought two dogs, and you can tell it was a dog-friendly place because things were a little worn, but it didn't bother us at all. The beach was wonderful. You walk a windy trail through beach grass and over a bridge. We were a little concerned about the bridge with our small children because the stream was a raging river at this point. Both of our dogs fell off the bridge, were caught by the current, and had to be precariously hauled in (and one of them is a 100 pound German Shepard).
It was very quiet and relaxing. The view was fantastic. With the exception of a few minor house-related inconveniences, it was a wonderful trip. They were also nice enough to let us check in early; a lifesaver with two young kids and dogs. We'd gladly return.
We picked Nature House because it was reasonably priced for the location and because my kids, who were coming out from Seattle to meet us, wanted to be in the Ocean Shores area.
I read the previous reviews and felt that maybe the person complaining about the dust bunnies and such might just been having a bad day. Well, in all honesty the cleaning folk could be encouraged to run a dust mop under things a bit more often than they do because it was very apparent that cleaning around things, but not necessarily under them, was their style.
I've rented houses through VRBO in a number of locations around the US and while we were able to make due with what was supplied with the house, it was minimal in comparison with others places I've stayed. As an example, the house is advertised to sleep 9 but there was only enough forks for 6 and that with using one salad fork.
As for the house being in great condition as mentioned by other reviewers, a little paint touch up wouldn't hurt a thing, mars to finish on the counter tops leave them looking dirty and greasy and the sink is stained as well. As with the cleaning, maintenance seems to be minimal.
With all that said, the view from the house is spectacular and the walk out to the beach is an adventure. Deer feed at the edge of the lawn and we could hear the ocean morning, noon, and night. These pluses went a long way toward making for the rather sketchy cleaning and maintenance the house gets. I wouldn't say "don't rent it", just be aware that it not totally perfect, perfect except for the view and location.
The home is a bit service worn but is well maintained with nice amenities for guests. It was very clean. Beds were all comfortable with nice linens. And everything works which is not always the case in a rental home. The best part of this home was the view of the ocean across dune grass and shore pines. All of your exploring and hiking needs can be met by taking the trail towards the ocean, crossing Conner Creek on a small bridge to the beach. For those needing a longer walk you can go North on the beach to Griffiths Priday State Park where cars are currently prohibited from driving on the beach. We are planning on returning to Nature Beach House in the future.
We had a wonderful stay. Everything was as described and the views and beach access were exactly what we had hoped for. We will definitely recommend to others.
