Kailua-Kona House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

The name Huelani means “Opening up to heaven”. Huelani is located in the hills above Kailua-Kona in a quiet and private gated community. The elevation of this estate provides stunning panoramic views from every room.

This beautifully appointed (6400sqft) home features 4 bedrooms and 4 ½ baths. There are full bathrooms for each bedroom. There is also a half bath near the living room and an outdoor shower.

The moment you drive down the driveway, you are welcomed by the Marlin fountain bubbling. Enter the double glass doors and you will be greeted by 24 foot cathedral ceilings, French doors lining the living room and picture windows help keep the view of the Kona coastline unobstructed. The living room features 2 full sized couches, 4 swivel chairs to entertain or just to lounge your day away with a good book or watch the 46 in flat screen TV with cable. You will find wonderful pieces of artwork throughout the house and be able to find many comfortable rooms in this home.

Huelani is situated at an elevation of 1,200 feet, allowing for near perfect temperatures year round with no need for air conditioning or heating. Windows of the home can be left open year round to enjoy the breezes of Hawaii.

Huelani has a full kitchen with sub zero refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, full sized pantry and everything you need to make gourmet meals at home. There is a dining table in the kitchen, a formal dining room off the living room, a small eating table on the enclosed lanai and two glass tables by the pool. When you arrive at Huelani, you may find the pantry already stocked with groceries. We can shop and provide other services at a nominal charge. Just let us know what services you would like before your arrival. We also can refer you to a chef for cooking services.

Three of the bedrooms have king beds and the remaining bedroom has a queen bed. Each bedroom suite has a full bath providing privacy for each guest, especially with large parties.

The office provides a sanctuary if you need to bring work with you or just catch up on emails. There is full sized desk with an over sized chair. Wireless internet is included along with a phone line, monitor, wireless keyboard and fax.

The enclosed lanai has comfortable seating, a flat screen TV with cable, a small dining table and a wet bar with a wine cooler and small bar fridge, all with a view of the pool all for your relaxation.

Outside there is gas grill so you can enjoy cooking and eating outside. There is a table and chairs to enjoy meals. Light the tiki torches early in the evening and have the perfect setting for sunset every night of the year.

The lap pool is beautiful and large enough for everyone to enjoy along with loungers for everyone to relax. Down the path near the pool is our Jacuzzi, tucked away in a tropical setting with a little pond, lush vegetation and a lava tube hidden in the foliage. It is the perfect spot to hide away, relax and appreciate where you are.

When in season there are avocado, mango, papaya, orange, guava and lime/lemon trees on the property. Exploring this professionally landscaped one acre lot can lead you to any one of these trees on property.

There are plenty of linens, bath and beach towels for everyone. We have a full sized washer and dryer for your use.

This home is perfect for all visiting situations; a girls getaway, family reunion, a romantic getaway, group of friends/couples or just visiting Hawaii with the family. Huelani will be the heart of your trip. Don’t miss out on the perfect setting to your Hawaiian vacation.

About Lauren McNew

I am the founder and CEO of a media advertising company. I bought my Kona home as a second home to escape from the mainland's hustle and bustle.

Lauren McNew purchased this house in 2007

Why Lauren McNew chose Kona Coast

I looked at other homes before I bought this one, but I didn't care for the heat and humidity of the beach areas. Being at a high elevation, you can open your windows year-round and enjoy the fresh Hawaiian breezes. I also loved the spaciousness of this home and the large one-acre lot!

What makes this house unique

With so much open space surrounding my home and few neighbors, there is a tranquility here and a 'Four Seasons resort' feeling up on the hill above everything. It seems like you're far removed from everything, but everything is close by at your fingertips, just a short drive away when you want anything. Staying here is the best of both worlds! ~Hal

Best Island Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Vicki was friendly, gracious, and helpful from prior to booking right up through our visit. Mahalo! The house is spacious for friends and family, very clean, and the whole property is wonderfully private and homey. The hot tub grotto is beautiful. The pool is cold in February! The view is terrific from above the beaches and town and still the drive to everything is short. So many great beaches just 10-30 minutes drive, we could visit a new one everyday. Even Volcano National Park and sites on the other coast are just a couple of hours drive. There are plenty of supplies from beach towels, pool toys, boogie boards and snorkeling gear to pantry items and condiments. A trip to Costco and we had everything we needed to enjoy meals "at home" and pack lunches for our outings. So many things to do - just check the provided guidebook - or sit back and enjoy the island breezes. The malasadas at Tex drive-in Honokaa are worth the drive! A month was super relaxing and laid-back but at the same time too short. We could have stayed! Friends who visited were impressed and are planning to come back with their family.

Beautiful property suitable for a large extended family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a large property near Kailua to have a family vacation with our three adult children, their spouses, and children. Huelani was perfect. The place is stunning inside and out. A beautiful view of the ocean is perfect for the almost mandatory sunset watching. The pool is a great place to cool off after a morning at the beach. Being at about 1500 feet elevation, it's cooler than the coast and in the afternoon, we often had clouds come over to help cool it further. It's about 6 miles from KOA and 5 miles from Kailua just off the rim road, well positioned to head North to Waimea or Hawi or South to Kahalu'u beach or further South to South Point. We had rain a few afternoons and sitting in the secluded hot tub during a rainstorm was a treat. Be sure to go through the entire house before buying anything (beach gear, toddler accommodations, etc.) as previous guests have bought and left many useful items. Vicki was fantastic to deal with; just simply a pleasure, always helpful.

30 days in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We recently moved to the mainland after 45 years in Hawaii (Oahu) and wanted to get back for a summer vacation and to fish half a dozen tournaments. We caught yellowfin tuna, wahoo, albacore, and even a swordfish so we had our fill of fresh fish. The fact that the house had 3 king master bedrooms and very comfortable beds was appreciated by our guests. Kona can be very hot, but at an altitude of 3000' the temperature was perfect day and night. We loved the spa built into a lava tube with a waterfall/stream water feature. The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. We loved waking up to ocean views and swaying palm trees. In addition to fishing we golfed, scuba dived and snorkled, hiked on various trails and the Volcano national park, did an ATV trip, played ladder golf on the lawn and dined at some great restaurants when we weren't cooking at home. Vicki was wonderful and honestly the best property manager we have ever worked with.

Incredible experience created incredible memories

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a truly amazing experience at Huelani. The house is lovely, the grounds are breathtaking, and the care and consideration we received from Vicki were beyond all expectations. It was our home for a month and gave us the opportunity to experience life on the Big Island in a way that no resort could provide.

I hope to return again sometime soon!!

I spent my childhood in Kona. our family could not have experienced a better home on the island. The home speaks for itself, the pleasant surprise was in how fabulous the home manager was. From preparations for our visit throughout the entire stay she was extremely helpful and responsive.

Truly exceeded our expectations!

Fantastic home in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This home has exceeded all of our expectations! We have completely enjoyed everything about it. From the kitchen, mammoth living room to the world class hot tub location, we loved everything about it. Whoever did the landscaping here did an awesome job. It is so private, there are many times when you would think you were on the island all by yourselves.

Vicki is also the perfect housekeeper. She responded perfectly to any and all questions and was most helpful in everything we needed. She is like family now.

We will definitely be back.
