Built in 1933 and recently renovated, the Belmont Cottage is perfect for your vacation, visit or extended stay in Charlottesville. Just steps away from the Historic Downtown Mall and fine restaurants, the house is right down the street from the University of Virginia and nearby Monticello, Skyline Drive and many vineyards and wineries.

This unique two bedroom, one bath home is in the heart of the Belmont restaurant district and features a bright screened porch perfect for reading and relaxing as well as a private yard. Several amazing restaurants and a local latin-inspired coffee shop are a block away (the best donuts in town are two blocks away!)

You will be away from the noise of the University or the Mall scene, but within an easy and pleasant walk or trolley ride of both.

Please contact us with any questions or if you would like to make a reservation.

About Daniel Strickland

My wife and I met at UVA and stayed in Charlottesville after graduating and getting married. We fell in love with this adorable house shortly after we were married and it was the first home we lived in. We lived here for several years until we needed more space for our family - at which point we moved a few blocks down the street. And we couldn't bring ourselves to sell the cottage.

We were fortunate to watch the growth the Belmont neighborhood and the opening of several wonderful businesses in the neighborhood.

Daniel Strickland purchased this house in 2007

Why Daniel Strickland chose Charlottesville

Several of our favorite restaurants, anywhere, are just across the street from this house and walking to the Farmers Market and Downtown Mall is still a favorite event.

If you love food, this house and the Belmont Neighborhood won't disappoint you.

UVA and everything else Charlottesville has to offer is easily accessible and the house makes for a great base away from the bustle of the students.

What makes this house unique

This isn't a bed-and-breakfast, but might as well be. One of our favorite coffee and breakfast spots is across the street with latin-inspired coffee, cooked breakfast and a neighborhood community vibe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really appreciated the care and thought you obviously put into providing such a comfortable and pleasant place to stay. We all loved it and were impressed with how well presented and equipped it is. Your clear instructions, too, made it easy to feel at home. The proximity to the neighborhood coffee shops, restaurants and shops was an added pleasure. We wished we had longer to enjoy Belmont Cottage and would certainly not hesitate to recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Charlottesville.

No central AC

  • 3 of 5

This is a cute house in a great location. But central AC. The noise from the window units is variable and sleep disruptive. Also, screened porch in disrepair so can't sit out there without the company of mosquitoes. Would recommend in cooler months.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the porch. Some previous guests were rough with the screen and it is on my to-do-list to fix in the next few weeks. Was the AC broken (you mentioned variable noise)? Yes, there is no central AC - it is an old, small house. There are two window units, one upstairs and one downstairs that do that fine keeping everything cool. My wife and I raised our first baby in those rooms.

A little too rustic

  • 2 of 5

We rented Belmont Cottage never speaking to a soul, so don't try. Everything was handled via email and they weren't very prompt at that. The photos were taken a long while ago, very sparse and uncomfortable furnishings downstairs. Both bedrooms are up VERY STEEP stairs. Forget taking a shower, no water pressure upstairs and the smallest most cramped shower you will ever see. House is cute just not very well appointed or maintained. I would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: This review was written in July 2015 even though this reservation with us was in September 2014 (almost a year ago). I'm surprised HomeAway allows reviews this delayed. This is the first I am hearing of these issues. Nevertheless, I'm sorry the house did not exceed expectations. The shower has been remodeled and works fine. We use HomeAway's email system for communicating with potential guests. Once a reservation is confirmed, guests are provided with cell phone numbers of two different house managers in town in case anything comes up. Yes, the bathroom is up stairs (I'm not sure I would call them steep). And yes, the shower is cramped. Though, I used that shower every morning for several years and I'm 6'1", 195LB. The pictures are accurate (though bed covers and the dinning room table have been replaced). Please contact with any questions.
