Siasconset is known for its rose covered cottages and postcard perfect charm. Travelers who are looking for the quintessential Cape Cod vacation - look no further! Our rental cottage offers privacy, convenience and is ideal for a family vacation. The quiet narrow streets make Sconset especially children friendly.
Located 30 miles from the mainland - the island is easy to get to by boat or air. This is a place you go to relax -- when you want to get away from it all, but still enjoy great restaurants, shopping and sight seeing.
Ivy Lodge is conveniently located eight miles outside of Nantucket town in the historic center of 'Sconset. Our property is 150 yards from the beach (*lifeguard on site) and just a short walk to the village square where you will find a post office, tennis courts, liquor store, grocery market, two casual restaurants (one of which packs picnic lunches to go) and two fine dining establishments. During the peak season (June thru September), a bus service picks up and drops off from the rotary **two blocks away from the cottage. It's an easy way to get into town or visit many of the island beaches for those who do not want to rent a car. Biking enthusiasts have two routes to choose from which run from Sconset to Nantucket town. Both the Polpis and Milestone bike paths are separated from the roadway to provide a convenient and safe way to explore the entire island.
Take a stroll or cycle up to Sankaty lighthouse. It is one of the three lighthouses on island and is located less than a mile north from the Ivy's. Built in 1850 - Sankaty has a distinctive red band around the middle of its' tower and was the first lighthouse in Massachusetts to receive a Fresnel Lens, which can be seen at the Whaling Museum in town.
There is a reason why artists and photographers return every year to photograph and paint this unique, most Eastern town in Massachusetts. Come see for yourself!
We had a great relaxing week at the Ivy Lodge. Sconset is lovely and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much for renting us your house!
We have been renting in 'Sconset for years and I always loved Broadway and Center Street just north of the historic town pump. Ivy Lodge (as we learned on our tour) is one of the original 44 cottages of 'Sconset dating back to 1745. We also learned the old mulberry tree in the back yard is one of 3 remaining on Nantucket from 1740 when islanders made a failed attempt at growing silk worms. So much history and beauty within 50 yards of this home, I couldn't get enough.
This is not a gut rehabbed home that has been stripped of its fine character. You feel like you are walking right into a page of history. This home is situated smack dab in the middle of where most of the 'Sconset post cards are photographed and the well known artist/painter William "Bill" Welch does many of his beautiful water colors. It was a true Nantucket experience that we would highly recommend.
As for the house itself: The pictures are true to form. It is very comfortable, plenty of natural light. The front porch makes a nice setting for dinners or drinks after a day of exploring. The beds are very comfortable and it appears the mattresses are high quality and new. I particularly liked the second floor of North as it reminded me of sleeping in a whaling ship with all the beaded pine and angled ceilings. You can even hear the ocean from your bedroom, the air is so still and quiet at night. The heavy salt air had me sleeping like a baby.
The Ivy Lodge is such a wonderful and unique cottage. Great for large families that want to get away or multiple small families! Its a connected duplex so there's plenty of room for everyone. The larger side has a master bedroom suite plus additional bedrooms and a full bath with kitchen, dining area and large sitting room with a big ole fireplace to warm you at night. The other side is more intimate but still has a sitting room, kitchen, second bedroom area and shares full-sized washer/dryer (in the event you want to pack light and buy more clothes!) If you want to bring the whole family this is the place for you. If your family wants to vacation together with another family, this is the place for you too.
This place is the epitome of quaint and charming. The house is so cute, with porches on both sides and so much historic detail. Inside stayed cool in the day and the shaded porch was wonderful to sit out on in during the day and in the quiet, starlit evenings. The upstairs bedrooms run together and are great for kids, although adults tucking them in should watch their heads.
The house is on a quintessential Nantucket street with actual rose-covered cottages. It sits between two narrow lanes and was really quiet. The little town of 'Sconset was only about two blocks away and the beach a bit further. If you don't want to rent a car, it's really easy to get a cab from the airport or ferry. Be sure to rent bikes and ride into the main town of Nantucket and up the coast to Sankaty Lighthouse, too.
Our stay here was so relaxing and tranquil - a true vacation! I would definitely stay here again.
This cottage really made our vacation feel like a true Nantucket experience. Sconset is its own little village away from the fray and commotion of downtown and offers a relaxing environment. The house is within easy walking distance to the beach and Sconset Market. The inside was very clean and the original features of the cottage were well preserved offering an authentic experience in the historic district. The high ceilings were a plus for my husband who is 6'2 and the beautifully finished dormers were perfect for the kids. We liked the convenience of having two full bathrooms and two kitchens which made preparations quick and easy. We really enjoyed the large front porch for dinners and chatting with neighbors and visitors as they strolled past. The landscape was a beautiful accent and we could see that the property was well maintained. As I retired to bed for the evening I could hear the waves crashing on the beach; what peace! This cottage is definitely a gem and we look forward to our stay next year.
I stayed at this cottage in the early part of summer in 2007 and had an outstanding time! Everything about the place was in line with the history of the island with it's setting and decor and it was a very close walk to the beach. It had all the modern amenities (cable, etc) even though I rarely spent time using either any of them due to all the sites we saw while on vacation. I highly recommend Ivy Lodge!
This was our third year at Ivy Lodge, and our 12th summer on Nantucket. We initially found the cottage through one of the realtors on Nantucket. When we saw the home on HomeAway, we decided to deal directly with the owners for the first time this year. Loraine was very nice and accomodating.
The home is perfectly situated one block from the village square, Casino tennis, and the beach. We feel comfortable letting the kids go down to the movies, go out for ice cream, or get a head start to the beach.
The home itself is a true 'Sconset cottage, the pictures represented on this site are very accurate. It is well cleaned and maintained. It is not a new or updated cottage, it has rustic charms, but it is in good repair.
My wife and I travel with our nanny and 3 children and often have another couple or our inlaws join us for part of our trip. The duplex feature of this home allows for us to have plenty of space and not constantly be on top of each other. This house is a great value when considering its size, true sleeping capacity, and location. The front porch is wonderful for dinner parties or enjoying a quiet cocktail at the end of the day.
Ivy Lodge provides the authentic 'Sconset getaway and "post card charm."
