beautiful, comfortable home
We enjoyed our stay in the Adirondacks at Bonnie's Raquette Lake cabin. The beds and other furniture were comfortable and the cabin was very clean. We were wondering if we would be warm enough, because this was a fall weekend during which the evening temperatures were cold, but we did not need to worry about that. The heating system and hot water both worked very well and kept us warm. There was an issue with getting a movie to play, and we called Bonnie on Saturday night to troubleshoot it with us. She was very responsive, getting back to us quickly. She was not able to figure out exactly what was wrong either, but emailed me later that she was going to come to the cabin to redo the wires connecting everything, so hopefully that will take care of it. We were able to log onto Netflix and watch a movie that way. The internet was up and down.......don't know if it's the service in the area or if the home needs a new router. (And whatever the internet issue is, it didn't affect the movies we watched on Netflix). The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, and there were some spices and canola oil we were able to use. The biggest problem I could see was the front door. It was very hard to open from the outside. We had to "body slam" it in order to get it open, and I was never successful in doing that. Fortunately, there was no problem at all opening the door from inside the house, so I don't know what could be causing the issue.
When we first arrived, we were surprised that the house was a little way down a dirt road and that we were not able to see the lake at all. We thought it was going to be right across the street from the lake. However, the house has a beautiful front porch, and it feels very peaceful to sit on it. (We wished we had visited when it was warmer, so we could have taken advantage of it more!) We followed our GPS to the house, rather than Bonnie's directions, and it took us onto the dirt road from the other end of the road. This was a much longer trip on the dirt road than it needed to be, and there were a couple of large puddles we had to make our way around. So I strongly suggest following Bonnie's directions to get there. It is much easier.
All in all, this was a very comfortable place to stay and we would not hesitate to stay again if we make another trip to Raquette Lake.
Perfect Cabin in the Woods
This cabin/lodge is as perfect as it looks, with all the amenities you need for a vacation in the Adirondacks. It's in quiet surroundings, and the cabin was spotless. Beautiful drives, hiking, canoeing in this area. The owner is responsive to inquiries and we could not have been any happier with our stay.
The closest grocery store we found was in Inlet, about 15 minutes west of the Lodge. The Adirondack Museum is just north, a must-see, and the volunteer-operated Adirondack Scenic Railway operates from Thendara (Old Forge) offering seasonal theme rides, such as leaf-peeping to Otter Lake and back. Don't miss the interesting Hardware store in Old Forge - just like hardware stores used to be. They've got everything, including a fantastic selection of camping and hiking gear, including guidemaps.
Thank you very much - we had a delightful stay.
Absolutely beautiful!!!!! Clean, homey, & very well kept
Loved staying for the long weekend — was a wonderful getaway yet felt like being at my Grandma’s house.
Clean and comfortable
Had a nice stay overall. Had some issues with the electronics but the property was comfortable and very clean.
Unfortunately our stay was cut short a day but we’ll hope to come visit again.
Thanks for staying.
I wanted to mention that I am going to take a trip out to the house in a couple of weeks and replace some of the electronics and ensure everything is working so future stays should not have the same problems.
I hope to have you back again.
This was a great cabin. Very neat and clean. The only draw back was that the DVD player wouldn't work.
Quiet peaceful location. The smell of hemlock pines at the door. Clean cabin beautifully decorated and equipped with all the amenities to enjoy the beautiful Adirondack region. Enough space in house for privacy. Owner answered all inquiries quickly. Thank you !
