You cannot get any closer to the ocean! Check out the live Harborcam from our porch at: https://video.nest.com/live/Dajpa3.
This cottage sits 15 feet above high tide on Southwest Harbor, a classic Maine working harbor. The deck is perfect for watching the harbor, reading a book, or enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Our shore front offers a small sand beach and at low tide, lots of rocks and tidal pools for exploring. The dock is ideal for launching a kayak (bring your own or rent in town), a swim on a hot day, or for sipping your favorite beverage while perched on our bench.
The cottage is cozy, charming and spotlessly clean. It has the open stud walls of a traditional Maine summer camp. The main living/dining/kitchen area has a two-story ceiling with picture windows facing the water, comfy couches and chairs, a large round dining table, and a state-of-art wood stove for chilly mornings. The kitchen is small but very well-equipped, and does include a dishwasher.
The bedrooms, one downstairs and two upstairs, are attractively furnished with comfortable beds and comforters. There is a full bathroom on each floor (shower downstairs, and shower with separate tub upstairs), and full-sized washer and dryer on the first floor. Window fans and two space heaters are provided.
Downstairs: living/dining area; kitchen (with dishwasher); master bedroom w/king bed; small den with couch, chairs and a 37' flat sceen TV and DVD player; bathroom with shower; washing machine & dryer. The wood stove provides more than adequate heat to the main living room for chilly days. Renters concur that it is easy to use.
Upstairs: Bedroom with 2 twins; bedroom with queen and one (1) twin; full bath with shower and separate tub.
You'll never want to leave this corner of paradise!

Why Steve Hughes chose Southwest Harbor
For years we have loved sailing among and exploring the islands, hiking in Acadia, and enjoying the unique beauty of the Maine coastline. Mount Desert has all these things, and Southwest Harbor is our favorite town on the island.
What makes this Cottage unique
The house is quiet, cozy and comfortable with a fresh simplicity. The deck and picture windows allow us to watch the ever-changing harbor scenes. We can wander among the rocks and tidal pools, and watch the sea birds and ducks. And we're close to all that Acadia, Mount Desert, our favorite town, Southwest Harbor, and the ocean has to offer!

By far our best VRBO experience!
We just returned from a wonderful week on Mount Desert Island, Maine. This home exceeded our expectations in every way. We have four children ranging in ages from 3 to 10 years old. The setting is absolutely gorgeous and the tide pools are a pure delight for kids (and adults!) of all ages. It was a perfect home for children because they spent hours exploring the rocks during low tide, watching the ships in the harbor, and looking for cool shells. Also, the home provided plenty of space for us with 4 rooms and a bed for everyone. The drive to Acadia was about 20 minutes, and about 10 minutes to Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We enjoyed renting a canoe from town and exploring the harbor on our own, right off the dock! The owner was prompt in responding and extremely friendly and helpful. We had the BEST week and are sad that our dream vacation in Southwest Harbor has some to an end...but we hope to return sometime in the future!!! Thank you for opening your home to us!
This is our second time back at the property. We are so thankful for the opportunity to have been guests here. The house is very in keeping with the character of Downeast Maine - simple, tasteful, and comfortable. It is private yet conveniently located to Southwest Harbor. The dock is a huge plus. It is clean and well-maintained. The owner is responsive, hospitable, and seems to take delight in ensuring a pleasant, problem-free stay. Would give it six stars if I could.
A perfect August week
We have lost count of how many summers we have now spent an August week in this perfect house. It is the way we replenish our energy for the start of the school year. The house is beautifully situated on the harbor; everything is in the house that one can possibly need for cooking, for relaxation. The owners are super attentive. Watching the birds, the boats, the sea life, listening to the coast guard's reveille -- it is all amazing. We stay with our kids/small grandkids and every generation loves the house equally.
Serenity in Southwest Harbor
Beautiful location right on the water gazing out upon Southwest Harbor. Well-appointed and extremely comfortable, clean home. Thank you Steve Hughes our VRBO host and property owner who made sure all our needs were met. We would definitely love to come back!

Charming Waterfront Maine Cottage
This Maine cottage is picture perfect and a wonderful place to make summer memories! The cottage's location is tranquil and picturesque. In the morning, Reveille echos faintly across the harbor from the Coast Guard Station and in the evening, you can again hear the echos of the bugle playing, providing for a sweet signal to the end of the day. At low tide there is a wonderful little tide pool that can be explored, and we spied heron and sea gulls there. The house is filled with all the essentials needed. There is a wonderful wood burning stove for the cool mornings and evenings, and there are plenty of fluffy warm comforters to keep you warm as well. We rented early in the season, so these items were very important. The owners were very helpful in providing information about the property and stepped us through the building of our first fire in the stove. The house is also inviting, providing a good mix of books, puzzles, and games to keep you occupied. There is a T.V. provided, but we never had the urge to turn it on! Internet is also available and it worked like a charm. Each bedroom has blackout shades which were well appreciated, as the sun rises very early! The location offers many activities and restaurants nearby but some nights we just chose to enjoy the amazing view from the dock with some wine, cheese, and breads! How special to have your own dock to use for swimming and kayaking! I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to enjoy some lazy summer days with spectacular Maine views!
Great Vacation in Southwest Harbor
We had an unbelievable stay last week at this authentic cottage in Southwest Harbor. The whole place is very clean, beds and furniture are very comfortable, and the wood-burning stove is easy and fun to use. The living room has multiple windows that open to let in the ocean breezes. The panoramic view of the harbor is amazing any time of day. We especially enjoyed the sound system that plugs directly into an iPad or iPhone and fast wireless internet to play Apple Music and internet radio. The kitchen is in great working order and is well stocked with enough dishes and utensils for a large group. We had fun exploring Acadia National Park and eating out at nearby restaurants, but our favorite things of all were hanging out on the private floating dock in front of the cottage and looking for sea glass in front of the cottage at low tide. Steve, the owner, is very pleasant and accessible. He checked in on us periodically by email during the week to make sure we were having a good time. We hope to return soon.
