About Robert Crown

Why Robert Crown chose Acadia

Heron House fulfilled our longing for a woodland and lakefront all-season home offering the intermingling of lush woods against the water and mountain views. Tranquility for the eyes and mind.

We love the bird-watching; the possibilities for photography, painting, writing, and reading. Boating, biking, hiking, canoeing, and swimming for the more active.

Honeymooners welcome.

What makes this house unique

Family reunions have been a big hit. Quiet and off the beaten path but in close proximity to activities and amenities. Swim, fish, and canoe in the lake, or head out for a day trip to many nearby attractions.

Deep Woods Maine Yet Close to Everything

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's 1st time in Maine. Our Chicago-area family of myself & 5 kids have done UP Michigan several times, but never Maine. Jennifer was very prompt and responsive to all our questions-this made our decision to rent easy. We love being remote, having access to kayaks while still being close enough to explore & enjoy local attractions. Heron House did not disappoint & was such a perfect find! The house is located between the 2 sections of Acadia The main part of the park (Cadillac Mt, Bar Harbor, etc.) & the other part (Schoodic Peninsula) are equidistant from our 'base' & we saw it all--so should you! We started our days with coffee at the waterside dock/deck in the morning & ended it with fires at night with the stone fire pit (complete with tiki torches). The layout of the house offered our various members of the family places of retreat for 'cave time' & the huge screen porch served as a great place for our meals. A lasting memory will be the night-time kayak launch my 14 yo daughter & I did. As we laid back in the kayaks on the still water of the pond (more like a small lake) we saw a steady parade of satellites in the sky but also a half dozen shooting stars. It was an experience a daddy & daughter will always treasure. On way to the Schoodic Peninsula we stumbled across a roadside diner which has dine-in eating---Tracy's. Great quality food at a great price. Their price of lobster rolls was 2 for the same price many places closer to the Bar Harbor side of the Acadia were charging for 1. Unbelievable chowders (made on demand) & haddock you have to get. When you are looking to eat out with a family of 7, you want to pass along a great find like this.

I loved this place

  • 5 of 5

This was beautiful well stocked and very private. The property manager was really nice and changed the sheets mid stay. We loved the area with easy access to everything. It was off the beaten path but close to everything you would need. The National Park and Bar Harbor were close with many things to do. Maine is beautiful too. This would be a place I would love to return to.

Even better than the photos indicate

  • 5 of 5

I can't add much to the favorable reviews others have submitted. If you are looking for privacy, natural beauty, a well-equipped home filled with thoughtful amenities, proximity to Ellsworth and Acadia, plenty of room for up to eight adults, ... then you can't find a better rental location.

Here's a particular favorite - the house is about fifteen minutes from the Monteux School in Hanover, where talented young musicians present high-quality classical concerts on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. These are not to be missed!

It was truly a home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

August 1-15 was our second visit to Heron House and it was a grand experience as was our first visit in the summer of 2013. The house is "just right for our family of 7. Comfortable, practical, well appointed, and amply supplied with basic necessities, plus games, books, music, TV, DVD and Wi-Fi! It is truly a home away from home! We spent lovely mornings on the deck by the lake and swam, kayaked, and enjoyed "happy hours" there, too. We easily traveled to Acadia National Park to enjoy Sand Beach and many of the hiking trails. We visited Bar Harbor several times and ate at several local restaurants, especially Jordans Snack Bar for crab rolls and ice cream, Crocker House on Hancock Point for a "night out", and Chart House in Hulls Cove for "ocean views". But cooking our own meals and eating on the big porch was the best! We made good use of the lobster pot. A good time was had by all - even the teen-agers.!

accurate description of property on website.

  • 3 of 5

Overall the property was accurately depicted on the Homeaway website. It was clean and ready for new renters when we arrived. The location was perfect for day trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The evenings were very quiet and peaceful by the fire pit, nothing but loons and distant coyotes howling in the distance no air traffic, cars or trains. The lake was beautiful and good for canoeing but not the best for swimming. Since this property is in the woods, you will definitely need some deep woods off as mosquitoes were off the hook. We only had a few issues with the amenities, one being the DVD player did not work and the other being the grill was not cleaned when we arrived and it ran out of gas on our first use, although a new tank was delivered the next day. Overall I would definitely recommend this property especially if you would like it as a base for excursions to nearby attractions.
