About the Property
3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to 8
A little history...: In 1947, Charles Riddiford purchased this property from its previous owner. He was a British citizen working as a cartographer for The National Geographic Society. His only stipulation before moving to the States was that he would get the summers off, which he did. The family began making this cottage its vacation destination, a tradition that has been carried on by his sons and grandchildren to the best of their abilities! We're happy to share this slice of the Riddiford family with you.
Things to do...: There are a number of hiking trails in the area - you should find some maps in the cottage. Ask the locals about some great trails not far from the elementary school. We also love getting lobster at the local co-op, sampling great clam chowder, visiting the Pemaquid Lighthouse and Beach, excursions to Damariscotta, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, Reid State Park, and enjoying crackling fires, lazy mornings and walks viewing the lobster boats and quaint coastline.

South Bristol is divided by the 'Gut,' a connecting waterway navigated frequently by lobstering boats via the bridge and capturing the quaint scene of Maine's bustling industry. Up the road 15 minutes in Damariscotta are all the amenities of a small town, and nearby Boothbay Harbor (about 40 mins.) boasts whale watching, deep sea fishing, shopping and historic venues. Farther down the road, one hour away, is the shopping center of Freeport, Maine: home of L.L. Bean and many other outlet stores.
