About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Come stay at our Mt. Crested Butte home for a true Rocky Mountain adventure during any season! Crested Butte is a pristine, historic mountain town surrounded by breathtaking alpine views in every direction. The ski area is world famous for both extreme steeps as well as plenty of terrain for beginners and intermediates. Avoid the lines at most other Colorado ski areas by skiing here! The town has many great restaurants and shopping opportunities, all with a very casual atmosphere.

Cross-country skiing in the winter, and hiking, camping, biking and wild-life viewing opportunities also abound here! Use our home as a base-camp for unlimited adventures! The ski lifts are a short walk from our front door, and a free bus is available to the lifts and to town. Bedrooms include a queen bed in one and a bunk-bed in the other with a double (full) bed on the bottom. Extra twin futon also available on request.

About Martha J Griffin

My husband and I have spent most of our lives in Colorado, enjoying lots of time in the mountains. We feel rejuvenated from skiing, hiking, mountain biking and just hanging out on our porch in Mt. Crested Butte. Our kids have grown to love all of these activities as well as fly fishing in the rivers.

Martha J Griffin purchased this house in 2003

Why Martha J Griffin chose Crested Butte Area

We chose Mt. Crested Butte for our vacation home because the skiing is superior to anything we have experienced in Colorado. Crested Butte is off the beaten path so it is an especially pristine location. We bought it mostly to enjoy the skiing, but have discovered that we love it in summer as well. The hiking and mountin biking trails are abundant and full of wild flowers. There are many fantastic restaurants and most are priced reasonably.

What makes this house unique

Our house is clean and cozy. It is in a neighborhood with many full time residents and a welcoming feeling. In summer, the hummingbirds visit the flowers in the garden. In winter, the snow in the yard gets very deep, great for making snow forts! We have a stash of toys, games, books and puzzles for kids of all ages.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 7 days in Crested Butte and Martha's house was perfectly located, just steps away from the free bus shuttle service and a short drive away from all the beautiful trails in town. We brought all of our mountain bikes, and it was very helpful that the house had a shed where we can store/lock up our bikes and not worry about them for the night. The beds were comfortable, and all necessary supplies in the kitchen, washer and dryer in the basement was a plus. We would really like to come back next summer!

A fantastic place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Why stay in a condo when you can stay in a home! This is a really special place, perfect for a family for 4 or 5. It's in the beautiful little neighborhood of Pitchfork, a short walk from the base area. We stayed in the summer and enjoyed sitting on the porch watching families walk their dogs and admiring the cows grazing across the street. This house is small but it has it all... the kitchen is fully equipped if you love to cook (and save $ by not eating out all the time). Lots of light and bright colors. It's so peaceful and homey, you may not want to leave. Lots of nice touches and little surprises. I can't recommend it enough!

Great house and perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Great little house. Responsive and easy to work with owner. Clean upon arrival. Everything worked. Nice big washer and dryer. Paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies stocked. Very comfortable beds. The bus stop is less than two minute walk. The view -- it's beautiful! You can sit on the porch and see the snow capped mountains and look out over a field of wildflowers. Central heat and A/C. Appliances work well and everything in nice condition.

Nit picky items:

No coffee table -- we used a plastic bin because there isn't any place to set a cup of coffee, etc while sitting on couch or chair.

One upstairs bathroom is more difficult with four people than I expected

The cable is basic. And by basic I mean more basic than I thought possible. I watch very little tv on vacation or sometimes none. I do like to turn on CNN and ESPN to catch up on occasion though. No cable news channels, no ESPN at all.
