Great view. Needs serious maintenance.
The layout of the home was great for our large group. We stayed with two other families and never felt crowded. The view of the ocean could make us forgive many problems we encountered with the home. However, there were many maintenance issues which need to be addressed. The a/c units didn’t work in some rooms. The hot water was never consistently working. The home had plumbing problems also. There were serious electrical issues too. Many exposed wires and non working switches were found. The home needs to be repainted. The hot tub and pool weren’t heated. There were missing panes of glass in the bathroom. We didn’t feel completely safe as the gate would not lock. The pictures were taken quite a while ago based on the appearance of the home. I imagine that the hurricane didn’t help matters, but the issues I’ve described aren’t all from the storm. We now question using VRBO again based on this experience. It’s a shame really because the home could be quite lovely with some serious TLC. We feel that we paid way too much for this home.
House is comfortable. We had a total of 12 guest. The best part is location, very private and the views are gorgeous. The host are superb and are willing to do what it takes to make sure your stay is great. Obviously there are a few kinks here and there since the island is recovering from one of the worst hurricanes in modern day history. If you are visiting an island be aware that sometimes power and water are scarce but I tell you one thing, the host will do everything in their power to make sure you have what you need. We enjoyed every minute of the seven days six nights we stayed here and will definitely visit again!
Post Maria Review - Great Place, and Great Hosts but a lot of work needed.
Amazing place but also very frustrating. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay, and it was good value for money. The location, the layout, the view, the hosts were all fantastic. This should be a 5 star review, but there were so. many. issues. - A few issues and we wouldn't have noticed - heck the description even warns that the place isn't in perfect condition, but there's a point where it's like "what now" ...but remember that this review is the first post Maria one - hopefully the issues that had me take stars away are resolved soon!
Initially we had this place booked for over the New Year but after Hurricane Maria, we delayed our trip till mid March....it seems like we should have delayed a bit longer ideally but we wanted a winter getaway.
When we first got to the place there was no running water (it has gone out a couple of days earlier), on the second day we had cold water for a bit and then there was a major leak and no water. Finally on the third day we got water including hot water....not having water is a pain when say, trying to cook for 11 people, or with trying to go to the toilet! But the biggest problem with this was just the uncertainty which stressed people out worrying that we may not have any water for 6 days....not what you want on a relaxing Vacation.
It seems there are a lot of electrical issues too supposedly due to the voltage having changed a bit during re-construction. Only a couple of the rooms had functioning air conditioning. The hosts had put in portable air conditioners but they were not effective in some rooms - when we tried to move them around we ended up blowing breakers. The fridge and dishwasher also didn't work well - luckily the house had a small cooler we could put important perishables in with Ice to keep them. Jacuzzi Blowers, pool water heater, outdoor sound system, and several lights didn't work - all minor annoyances but they add up.
The place also had a ton of cosmetic issues - lot's of broken fixtures outside, cracked concrete, peeling paint, glass panels replaced with wooden slats, tarps over the roof, etc. Finally there were a lot of minor issues such as the Gas Grill not working super well (missing internal components), limited beach towels, no kitchen towels. limited kitchen ware (no baking sheets, non-stick cookware, large pots or pans, etc) which made it a challenge when cooking for a group. Luckily we were aware of this ahead of time and had packed some of these things.
Pictures of the view DO NOT do it justice very beautiful with everything you could need
The location and view were great but basics were missing
The views of the ocean are phenomenal and the large property size and access to the beach made it a comfortable place to be for our large party. The kitchen, however, needs to be properly outfitting with the basics for a comfortable stay - that would include some towels (paper and cloth), wash rags, a better coffee maker and other items needed to allow guests to cook and keep the area cleaned up. There was apparently a water main break the entire time we stayed at the house (4 days) so we had next to no water pressure, no hot water and we used bottled water for teeth brushing and drinking. This wasn't the fault of the owner, who actually brought bottled water by, but it was pretty inconvenient nevertheless. The windy afternoons made for great kite flying for the kids; hopefully the owner keeps those handy.
The home was beautiful. Very spacious and well decorated. The view was amazing with lots of outdoor seating areas. Everything is in the home that you could possibly need. For our group, all we had to do was buy food and drink. We had a small family wedding and it was just perfect! When we had trouble getting WIFI, the owners were readily available and talked us thru it. We felt like the owners really cared about our comfort during the stay. We look forward to staying here again in the near future. This home is truly a jewel!
