About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-8)

Camp Kingfisher is available year round. The newly-renovated cottage boasts new central heating, plumbing and air conditioning systems. Located in the cottage community of St. George, Camp Kingfisher offers you a tranquil, wooded setting within the Allegheny Mountains, overlooking the Allegheny River. But just 8 minutes away - almost like another world, is the Cranberry Mall/Wal-Mart area, where you can shop, dine or see a movie.

Awaken to the sounds of birds chirping, keep your eyes open for deer, turkey, bald eagles and the busy little 'kingfisher' birds that feed along the river.

At Camp Kingfisher, you can choose to be as active or as passive as you wish.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I just wanted to tell you how much my family and I enjoyed our stay in your beautiful cabin. It MORE than met our needs and I appreciated all the extra's that were in the cabin. It was beautiful and clean and absolutely lovely.

We are already planning for another trip up there next summer and hope we will be able to rent your cabin again. We would like to make it an annual tradition vacation spot.

I hope all was satisfactory to you after we left. Again, thank you so much. We all loved the week.

Lovely, well-furnished, relaxing getaway spot.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for Columbus Day weekend 2013 and had a wonderful time at this rental. The kitchen was well appointed (although a couple of cooking vessels were a bit worn)... enough to make 4 nights worth of terrific meals. Very nice grill and fire pit on the property.

The bedrooms are very large and well-furnished. There is a LOT of patio space. There is a patio behind the house, a nice front porch, and a balcony off the master bedroom with a great view of the river.

There is access to the river on the property and it is very quiet. Even though there are neighbors relatively close they were very friendly and helped to point out area attractions. The owners were also very friendly and kept the property very clean and made sure we were provided with towels and other necessities.

One wonderful feature of this property is that it is located along the Allegheny River Trail which is beautiful for walking or cycling. A few miles down the trail is an old train tunnel that has been paved and made a part of the trail, so you can literally cycle through a hill in an old train tunnel. A little creepy but fun. I recommend bringing a flashlight or LED lamp for wearing on the head if you want to adventure through the tunnel.

All in all the five of us had a terrific time. I would recommend this property to anyone who would like a relaxing getaway near to fishing, rowing/canoeing, cycling, or just away from urban bustle would enjoy their time spent here.

Highly Recommend Camp Kingfisher

  • 5 of 5

Would highly recommend Camp Kingfisher. The view of the river was lovely. The home was clean and spacious with all the luxuries of home. We primarily selected the cottage to fish on the Alleghany. We had no problem launching our bass boat. We enjoyed our daily catch and release of bass and witnessing bald eagles soaring in the sky. The owners were very helpful in pointing out the hot fishing spots and the river channels. We will definitely come back again.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We read the reviews saying the place was clean, my wife is very particular about cleanliness, and she was not disappointed. It was way beyond expectations, very clean, lots of room, and very comfortable. Everything was first class, even the gas grill was high end, and not just a run of the mill grill.

The location was very peaceful, and plenty to do. Of course biking is number one, and definately bring plenty of light for the tunnels. The Rockland Furnance was impressive, and we also enjoyed renting canoes in Franklin.

The Mexican Rest. in Cranberry was excellent (we were on vacation and did not want to cook very much). The Allegheny Grill in Foxburg was nice, but food and service were nothing special, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

Sitting by the fire at night was relaxing along with having coffee on the porch in the morning while the kids slept.

I highly recommend this location if you are looking for peace, privacy, quality, cleanliness, relaxation, but also opportunity to exercise, explore, and have fun and adventure.

Great place on the river!

  • 4 of 5

Very clean and well kept. Even more room than the pictures show. Nice patio out back and a fire ring to the side of the house. Bedrooms are spacious, the master is marvelous with the walk out deck to the front of the house. Nice place to disconnect - we did not even turn on the TV while we were there. Very relaxing, we really enjoyed ourselves. Owners live right up the road and are very nice and easy to talk to. We will be back!

Awesome cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed for 6 nights. Nice, very neat, clean and well stocked. Plenty of room for our family (2 adults and 3 teenagers). Great location with access to bike trail steps away and scenic views of Allegheny River. Best part of the experience was the bike trail. Nice paved trail 10+ miles long, north or south along river. My wife and I enjoyed walking/running the trail daily. Our kids really loved riding the bike trail (and riding through the tunnels). Our kids spotted several deer each day while riding on the trail. Neighbors all friendly and helpful. Peaceful and quiet. Nice getaway for family. Thanks Shirley!

In the small community of Foxburg, just south of the cottage you can experience Segway Tours through forest and field.
