4-BR House-City of Winter Park - Borders Nat'l Forest!

Sleeps13
Bedrooms 4
Bathrooms3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10-15, with sharing of beds)

Close to the ski area, our house is located in the Town of Winter Park (not in neighboring cities with subdivision names containing Winter Park). The house is at the end of a dead-end street, where the forest begins. No neighbors on one side of us - just the Arapaho National Forest! Quiet location, far from the highway, trains and traffic.

From the end of our driveway, you can begin on forest trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing (6 pairs for your use), and bicycling. You can take a trail beginning at our driveway and travel to the Winter Park ski resort (downhill to us from the ski resort). Otherwise, the ski shuttle comes a few doors away and will take you for FREE to the ski resort which is a ten-minute ride. You can walk to downtown Winter Park and free ice skating (we have 32 pairs of skates) in under thirteen minutes.

You will be cozy at night underneath flannel sheets in each of the four bedrooms and a loft. The large master bedroom has a king-size bed (and adjoining bath with jacuzzi two person tub), one bedroom has two bunk beds with a full bed on the bottom of each, two bedrooms have queen-size beds (one of these rooms has a futon, too). Our loft has a queen-size sleeper, TV and glider chair. The living room has a sage green Lazy Boy queen-size sleeper with a built-in air mattress (comfortable!).

Our kitchen was just remodeled with granite countertops, new cupboards, and new appliances. We have pots, pans, and dishes just like you have at home. There is cable TV with DVD, and plenty of board games for family and friends' fun time.

If you want to be one second (literally) from the forest where you can take off on your snow shoes (we have some for you to use) or cross-country skis for a peaceful trek, and a place which is quiet from traffic and trains, contact us. Since we have allergies, our place is smoke and pet free.

You will need a front wheel drive, 4WD or AWD vehicle during a winter visit. Never bring rear wheel vehicles into the Rocky Mountains in the winter time, as you must travel over a 12,000 foot pass and up some steep inclines.

About Terry O'Malley

Beth and Terry live in Littleton, Colorado. Terry is a Colorado attorney and Beth is a Registered Nurse. We personally care for our vacation home. We often clean the home ourselves, and pay attention to cleanliness and detail that we look for when we travel. We have a good friend in the Winter Park area who helps us with cleaning. You can rest assured that we have a visitor's eye toward keeping the house in good repair so you will feel at home and tell your friends about your great experience. We thank the Lord for the beauty of Colorado and Winter Park!

Terry O'Malley purchased this house in 2004

Why Terry O'Malley chose Winter Park Area

We searched for a second home in the City of Winter Park rather than in a nearby town because we wanted to be close to the ski area. This home is at the end of a street where the forest begins, and there are no neighbors on that side. You can step out the front door and within 5 seconds be in the Arapaho National Forest - the site of the Winter Park Ski Resort. You can even hike or cross country ski to the ski resort from our location. You can downhill ski back from the resort. This home was a perfect choice because it is away from the highway and train which pass through town, yet within the city limits. There is a stream within a five minute hike into the forest. Each year, we make improvements: 2014 - new carpet in lower bedroom, new tile in bathroom, new wood floor in great room. 2015: new Sony 50" LED TV; 2016 new carpet in main level queen and bunk room, pulls in the kitchen, quilt main queen bed

What makes this house unique

Quiet, yet close to the ski area. You can look out off the deck while grilling on the natural gas grill, and peer into the forest where elk, moose, deer and fox are regularly seen. You can mountain bike on hundreds of miles of interconnected trails beginning at the base of our driveway. You can also walk to the outdoor ice skate rink and sit at the fire pit while the children skate. We have 36 pairs of skates and six pairs of snow shoes for your free use.

Had A Wonderful Time...Great House!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is roomy, comfortable and close to everything. Our family had 14 people and we didn’t feel cramped at any time. The house had everything we need, the kitchen is fully equipped. We cooked dinner together and played card games both nights with our kids, nieces and nephews. They had a blast.

The owner Terry was extremely helpful, responsive and wonderful. He called me the afternoon we were supposed to check in to see if we needed anything. His instruction to the property was spot on. Thank you Beth and Terry for letting us stay at your mountain home. The overall experience was awesome and we would definitely recommend this house.

Had a Blast

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time, two families a total of 10 people. Kids all had a great time hiking up a small mountain close to the house. We also took the trail head several times and cooked out on the grill on the patio. We even got to watch some football thanks to having Dish Network already there. Kids loved collecting rocks while adults hung out on the deck and visited, and around the house. Kids also enjoyed the whirlpool bathtub upstairs. The house is also really close to the ski resort where you can in the "summer" enjoy the Alpine Slide and the village at Winter Park.

We had a blast and definitely plan on returning sometime in the future.

Love the location

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this house. It's close to town, yet feels like we're remote. The accommodations comfortably fit a large group- there were 10 of us. It borders the National Forest like the owner says and there is a trail literally right out the front door. This trail connects to many other trails and you can even hike/bike to the Winter Park ski area. Beds are comfortable, kitchen well furnished, good internet, big screen tv, big table so all can sit down for meals. One queen bedroom is downstairs next to the mud room which gives privacy away from the main living area. We will definitely rent this home again. The owners are great and are easy to work with.

Great accomodations for a group

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 4 day stay at this home. We had several family members staying with us along with our 3 little ones. The collection of board games and foosball table was a hit for the kids. The house is very well kept. The kitchen is small. It works fine but it's best for just one person to work in there at a time. Our first night was a little chilly as the heater needed some time to warm the entire home; however, we arrived very late so there wasn't much time for it to evenly heat the home. All subsequent nights were comfortable. The owner is very responsive and easy to work with. We would stay here again!

Great Ski/Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have been more satisfied. Had a family group of nine. Seven skiers and two non skiers, age 6 through 65. The Winter park shuttle runs every half hour. The pick up/drop off is no more than a minute walk from the property. It is both the first pickup so you always get a seat, and the first drop off so you aren't on the bus forever on the way home. Trip takes about 20 minutes with stops. If you want to drive, it is around an eight minute ride to the Mary Jane parking lot from which you can ski to the Mary Jane base.

As far as the house itself goes, it was great. There was plenty of space for everyone. Kids loved the Foosball table on the lower level. Non skiing adults loved the snow shoes and easy access to the National Forest. Great snowshoeing trails into the forest and we even saw a mamma moose with her calf They were no more than 20 feet from the house. Snowshoeing was great fun even though we had never done it before. The walk to the free ice skating rink was around 15 minutes. Kids and adults had a great time skating. Mud room was just right for storing ski stuff in a warm, dry spot. The kitchen was a little small, but we had no problem even with "too many cooks." The home has central heat as well as electric baseboard radiators. The owner does not want you to use the electric heat, and we found that there was no need for it. The central heat worked fine.

One warning: If it is snowy, don't even try to make the hard turn to the upper parking area. You will get stuck. Drive up the hill around 15 feet, just past the entrance to the upper parking area and back down into the parking area. Reverse this for getting back out. This is Colorado and there is a lot of snow. This house is close to restaurants, sleigh rides, ski rental and grocery stores.

All in all a great experience and a wonderful vacation. Terry was very helpful and his directions and info on the area was spot on. This is a great place for a Winter Park vacation, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Perfect Thanksgiving Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This house offered more than we expected. We brought a family of ten; from 6-58 years old. We skiied, snowboarded, tubed, used the sled and sleigh, made snowmen, walked through the forest, used the snowshoes and made snowcones from the snow. There are an abundance of sleeping arrangements, so no one was crowded. The location was close enough to town to catch the bus, but situated at the end of the road was such a blessing! Enjoyed the fireplace and gas grill every evening; played dice, spoons and card games. The views are truly amazing; 19 inches of snow fell while we were there! Looking at the pictures again makes me wish we were still there. Nothing can compare to having our Family together! The owner, Terry, went above and beyond to make this a great experience. Well, well worth the cost (actually felt like we should have paid more!) We are definitely coming back! Thanks again for many, many memories!
