Private Beach House on Canal with Pool and Boat Dock, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths
I grew up in Sarasota and always loved the beach and island life as well as all the cultural venues Sarasota is known for. I left Florida for university and professional reasons, however, always knowing that I would return to the area at a different phase in my life. I'm now married with 3 children, and Longboat Key provides exactly what we seek which is the serenity and tranquility of a beach life yet conveniently located to all the outdoor activities which we seek for as well as being a hop away to all that Sarasota has to offer. We hope to provide a place that would embrace love, tranquility, contentment, and good will to those who visit our home.
Alise purchased this House in 2012
Why Alise chose Longboat Key
I felt very fortunate to have found this lovely property in July 2012 as a vacation house to share with my husband, 3 children, and our family pet. We're looking to retire in the area, and the house was perfect for our needs. The private beach access is now rare in Longboat Key. The house is on a quiet street and away from the noise, and its close proximity to Anna Marie island and Sarasota is a main reason why we chose this particular home.
What makes this House unique
Private beach access to one of the most beautiful beach and magnificent sunsets; Pet and family family; Quiet street yet within walking distance to stores/restaurants/shops; Close proximity to Sarasota and Anna Marie Island; Open floor plan; Dock for boats; Private pool; Regular pool/landscape/pest control services; Fully equip with modern conveniences for a home away from home; Everything is provided including all beach equipment/toys/cart/towels/chairs/umbrella/tent, board games, washer/dryer/vacumn cleaner, 3 bikes, 2 scooters, books, DVDs, and much much more.

Get place close to the beach
We liked the close proximity to the beach that this house offered. The owner was friendly and answered all our questions in a timely manner. The pool was awesome. We didn’t want to leave.
Loved this place!
We loved our stay, can’t wait to come back! The pool was great we spent a lot of time there! The kids fished off the canal and it was full of tiny fish! The neighbors were welcoming and a lot of them had pets they walked every night by the house! I think the best part was being able to walk down to the private beach and watch the sunset while taking a late night swim in the ocean! We definitely will be back, can’t say enough good things about this place!!
House Great but Longboat Key was not welcoming
First let me say we've been using VRBO for the past 5 years and rely on the descriptions and reviews to make our choices for our family vacation. Our kids are 14 & 15 and we have one dog that travels with us. The house was great - Furnished well, comfortable beds, and kitchen small but adequate, and the garage was a treasure trove of beach goodies with everything we needed. Here's why we gave this listing a "3".
1. House is listed as "dog friendly", but the beaches are zoned "no dogs". There isn't a sign on the beach access door and there was no way we would have known this. The listing should have stated this. We were not so nicely told by the locals about this when we brought our dog down there. Our neighbors basically yelled at us to keep our dog in the yard, which he clearly was. I am a very good dog owner and clean up after him. He never left the yard except on the leash. We felt out of place almost immediately.
2. There is another ordinance on Longboat Key that says all homes must be rented for a monthly rental only. VRBO says 7-30 days. Again, we were also told by locals that this was an issue since we were only here for a week...again, felt out of place almost immediately.
3. The listing says that we can fish off the back docks and have access to the bay from our home. This statement is true, and we did kayak out to the bay twice (Daily was the plan) but most of the days the stench from the canal was so horrible it made it impossible to enjoy the pool due to the smell or go out back to enjoy the evening by fishing or setting on the dock. So getting into the kayaks to fish wasn't really that inviting due to the smell. The fish population is decimated there (red tide was not active but has hurt the wildlife severely) and therefore, there we NO fish in the canal. Only stench and brown sludge.
In general, if you want to go somewhere to stay in the house and not venture out then stay here. House is great! But if you're looking for a welcoming Florida vacation with beach fun and fishing with a welcoming atmosphere - Longboat Key is NOT your place. Again, the house is nice, but the environment is not for us. Alice was fabulous and always answered all our concerns and questions quickly. We'll look elsewhere next time.
Lovely home that had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed hanging out by the pool and on the dock when we weren't at the beautiful beach which is just a short walk away. We also enjoyed strolling through the park down the block. Lots of great restaurants and shops. Plenty to do! Nice fishing piers just minutes away where we spotted dolphins and manatees. Long Boat Key is beautiful. Highly recommend. We hope to be back before too long!
Thank you for the nice review. Yes, Longboat Key is a hidden gem. Glad to hear all the things you enjoyed doing in the area, as we do. We look forward to welcoming you back. Alise
The house was perfect for us
This house is located in a great spot. It has plenty of room and is well-appointed. Everything we needed to enjoy the beach, pool and island was there. Clearly, the owners know their guests. And any house issues were addressed immediately.
We loved being on the canal and all the wildlife coming by. The beach is spectacular. We spent a month, had family visit, and got to know the island. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
Thank you for taking the time out to indicate all the things you enjoyed about your stay in our home. That's our intention, to share our little piece of home with all our guests. Look forward to welcoming you back. Alise
I wish I would’ve known the pool wasn’t heated prior
My husband and I have been in Florida vacationing for a few years now and have stayed at many many places. This one by far felt the least welcoming. There were signs hanging everywhere with instructions. I don’t mean one or two, there were probably 3-4 in each room. We felt so uncomfortable that we didn’t even sit down the first three days scared we may not be allowed. I would like to add, the place may be great for everyone else but my husband and I have severe anxiety and PTSD and the notes were just way way too much for us. The house was as pictured on VRBO. Owner was kind and responds back quickly.
I am very sorry to hear about your severe anxiety and PTSD, and I can just imagine that it is difficult travelling with this conditions. It would be also equally difficult to have a house that can satisfy your anxiety. Most of the notes are for light switches, and we've actually had many positive reviews and compliments on how constructive these notes were so people would know which light switch is for which light. The only intention of these instructions are to make it easier and comfortable for our guests. I guess everyone does have different perspective, so thank you for your feedback and I truly hope you will find peace and happiness in your next rental.
