Aloha Falls is located in the private, upscale, and timelessly beautiful neighborhood called Reed's Island right in Hilo town. Unique to Aloha Falls is access to the waterfall and swimming area where you have so much more than just a view. The view is stunning and the waterfall sounds fill the house. The home is well cared for and the yard is manicured as a lush tropical jungle, which includes bananas, bamboo, passion fruit, and more.

Here at Aloha Falls, You are in the perfect place to go to the famous Hilo farmers market and walk down our private neighborhood to all the lovely shops of Hilo. It is a 30 min drive to Volcano National Park and a 1 hr drive to the summit of Mauna Kea. Beautiful black sand beaches just across Hilo town. Botanical gardens all along the Hamakua coast are close by and a world attraction! Many past guests comment that they wish they had chosen to spend more time at Aloha Falls exploring the east side of Hawaii Island.

Aloha Falls itself is a world attraction- you don't actually have to go anywhere. In fact, many guests prefer to spend their days relaxing on the lanai, tuned into the peaceful aspects of the natural tropical surroundings. Aloha Falls was built by a craftsman- custom cabinetry and close attention to detail are apparent throughout the entire home. Temperpedic style queen size beds and the lullaby of the waterfall create a superbly restFull sleep! Many guests comment on their incredible quality of sleep while staying here. Giant tile showers make bathing a luxurious experience.

We welcome you to explore tropical island foods in your fully stocked kitchen. Rest all day on your sweet lanai perched above the valley and the waterfall. About Sierra Sugrue

Aloha! I am so honored and excited to share Aloha Falls with you. It is my dream of Hawaiian beauty and spirit. The past decade of my life has been spent nurturing the land here on the Big Island and pursuing the wisdom of various healing arts, including: massage, energy medicine, yoga, and plant medicine. My partner Troy and I focus much of our attention on creating the beauty of Aloha Falls.

Sierra Sugrue purchased this house in 2009

Why Sierra Sugrue chose Hilo

Hilo is the most gorgeous place in all of Hawaii! It is a sweet historic town with locally owned shops and modern comforts. The land is lush thanks to nightly rain fall. Waterfalls and black sand beaches are everywhere, along with an abundance of farms growing exotic organic produce! It was my dream to find a place in Hilo and Aloha Falls is located on the exclusive neighborhood called Reed's Island.

What makes this house unique

The view and sound of the waterfall made this home absolutely perfect. Also, the attention to detail in building.. All of the furniture, cabinetry, and artwork are handcrafted and locally produced. There are feelings of simplicity, peace, and profound elegance here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything about this house is amazing! From the waterfall in the backyard to the sounds of creatures waking up at night! We enjoyed all of the animals we saw (except for the mosquitoes) and the geckos are everywhere! Even in the house a few times! Some places I suggest trying to visit are Akaka FAlls, the most active volcano in the world (at night its amazing to see the orange glow but make sure to bundle up because it gets cold), snorkeling in Kona - it was great. Overall this was amazing and the house is gorgeous! Thank you!

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

I can't wait to go back.

The house and property are even nicer than it looks in the photos. The house is very clean. There has been a lot of attention to detail for the comfort and convenience of the guests. The kitchen has everything you need to make meals. The normal condiments are provided. There was even a large pitcher of herb infused cold water in the fridge. There are towels, hair dryers, etc. You really don't need anything but your clothing to go there and enjoy the stay.

The home is located in a residential area, but it is so secluded due to the waterfall and lush vegetation, you feel that you have arrived in a rain forest. There are coqui that sing you to sleep at night, along with the sounds of the waterfall in the distance. Amazing. The beds are incredibly comfortable. We even had tempurpedic style pillows on the beds.

The location is very centrally located. It took about 10-15 minutes to get there from the airport. Town is just a few minutes away by car. Nearby is Rainbow falls (you could actually walk there from the house). About an hour away (or a bit less) are the volcanoes and other waterfalls (Akaka). The town of Hilo is not large and busy like Honolulu. It is very welcoming and relaxing. The people are incredibly friendly.

During our stay, there was quite a bit of rain. Apparently, Hilo is located on the 'wet' side of the island. No matter - if it was raining to hard to go out, we were perfectly happy to sit in the hammock chairs on the enclosed/screened in and covered back deck while sipping tea :) The house/property were as much of a vacation as the surrounding sites. Another plus - because it rained frequently, we had a lot of wet clothing. We were very thankful for the washer and dryer available for use in the house.

We were fortunate to meet the owner of the property. She is a lovely person and really tries hard to make sure the guest are comfortable.

I am starting to save up now to make a return trip. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken! You will return from you stay fully refreshed - it really is impossible to get stressed in this location:)

Enjoy!

Absolutely spectacular

  • 5 of 5

This property is a destination in and of itself. It is so lovely you might be tempted not to venture out. But it's great location makes it easy to site see and then return. It is well equipped and quickly becomes a real home away from home. If you are renting a car, try to get one with a camera navigation to assist in getting down the steep driveway.

Super place to stay near Hilo

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Aloha Falls was everything that we could have hoped for. The location is perfect...close to town but when you are there you feel like you are miles away. The home provided everything needed for a relaxing retreat. The furniture is oh so comfortable and the kitchen has everything necessary to make the best of the local farmer's market. Having coffee overlooking the waterfall each morning was the perfect way to begin the day. We spent a couple of afternoons reading down by the water in the screened-in deck there. The kayak was fun, too! I have to mention the property owner, Sierra. There were a few minor suggestions we made upon arrival and she took care of everything within a few hours. She really went out of her way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Great house, great owner, great week!!

Relaxing wilderness retreat in Hilo!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this tropical retreat stressed and in dire need of a vacation. Within one day of our one-week stay in this Idyllic setting melted away our stress and put us in touch with the incredible value of nature and downtime to just let all the stress slip away. Our daily ritual was sitting together on the magnificent screened in porch projected into a tropical stage--listening to the chirping frogs, watching the playful geckos, and staring into the depths of green for hours every morning with a cup of coffee and hours every night with a glass if wine. And yet close by is the quaint small town of Hilo with its vibrant market which we explored many times. A short drive away is Volcano national park with all its wonders and great hiking. Not far as well is magnificent Waipio Valley. We WILL return to this property for its relaxing setting, ideal kitchen and living spaces, comfortable sleeping arrangements, quiet neighborhood, and close proximity to the Hamakua coast! Thank you Sierra for your responsiveness and careful attention to detail!

Beautiful secluded property close by to Hilo

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Aloha Falls! It was exactly what we were looking for- a secluded area nearby many different things to do. Although Aloha Falls was in a neighborhood, the trees and plants surrounding the homes made you feel alone.

We loved all the sounds at night of frogs and other critters. The little lizards running around everywhere were awesome, too.

I was a little hesitant at first about the no air conditioning, but quickly realized the breeze kept the house at a perfect temperature (and if it got too warm, it gave us an excuse to relax on the lanai). I would recommend this property to anyone looking to spend time on the Big Island!
