What makes this Farmhouse unique
Over Easter we had a family get-together and had a lot of people spend the night. It was so much fun, we had a sing-a-long around the camp fire BBQ pit in the backyard, and the next morning a wonderful Easter breakfast for 40 people and egg hunt. Since Jan 2010 we have had 4 birthday parties and 6 other parties for my family and friends at the house - it was pure joy. It's great when you can all stay together and cook meals and have fun.

We had a great stay here! This house has lots of space, lots of beds, everything we needed. This is our third stay here, and we were delighted to find our stuffed corgi (Corgi McCalister) we had forgotten last year, he was on display with the stuffed frogs and had an adorable bow around his neck! We remembered to bring him home this year but I'm sure he had lots of fun at the Jolly House during his year long stay!
Super nice, spacious house
Great for a large group , 3 levels. Nice large dining area which was great for eating, and games. Large yard, fire pit and close to fun activities. Closer than what I expected to HWY 4, but no sound in house.
Family Reunion in Murphys
The house is very unique. It is comfortable and well stocked. It is in need of repair and general up. Dress-up room was dirty and had many items broken and torn that should be cleaned out. Fire alarms were missing or had batteries removed.
Unfortunately this group came in one day after two big groups of over 45 kids were there. We had to make several repairs including the decking, steps, some trim boards and even a bed was broken. These repairs were made as soon as possible some repairs were done before this group came. As for the costume room, we did clean it out completely again last week. The costume room is supposed to be on the honor system, we let our visitors know that they need to be responsible for it and clean up after their self since the housekeepers don't clean it after each group. I try to keep the costs down, if I have to add cleaning the costume room after each group leaves then I will have to add more housekeeping costs on and I don't want to do that. We are also going to be putting in tile in two of the bathrooms, however, we have to wait until we have time between groups to do it. We did a lot of repairs and improvements this year including adding a wonderful shaded area in the back yard, plus we moved the fence way back, we added nicer tables and chairs and have been working on creating a new playground. Owning the Jolly House is like owning an old wooden boat, there is always something to improve or fix. I did not know that the fire alarm batteries were taken out, we will fix them immediately. The Jolly House is not perfect, but it is super fun.
Nothing fancy, but loved the outdoor space!
It was very hot while we were there, and the swamp coolers did not do a very good job of keeping up. It was quite warm in the bedrooms and cold in the kitchen. We had to move the coffee from under the vent to keep it warm. While the interior seemed a little cramped for the size of our group, we absolutely loved the outdoor space! The large canopy, fire pit and backyard area was wonderful for our family gathering - and the ample parking was definitely a huge bonus. Overall, for the money this was a great place for a get-together. If your family just wants a place to hang out and enjoy each other without the frills and expense, this house is a great choice.
The Jolly House is fun not fancy. We do give our guests instructions on how to use the two swamp coolers. If they follow the instructions and do NOT open extra windows the house does stay cool enough for comfort. We did find extra open windows when these guests left. We have had some very unusual hot weather lately as well. Usually it doesn't go over 100. Please see our other guests reviews and you will see the swamp coolers usually work fine.
Wonderful Quirky Place: Perfect for Large Gatherings
We rented the Jolly Tar Mines House for our parents 50th Anniversary Party weekend. It was perfect for our large and extended family and friends. To us the house was very comfortable and relaxing right away. We had about 20 people staying at the house and over 50 for the party. We never felt crowded. The decor and quirky things you'll discover are endless. I was finding and seeing new things up until we checked out. Would definitely return. The surrounding area has tons to do and the local restaurants, shops and markets were fantastic.
Great place, lots of space, everything you need!
Excellent communication, great place with great location.
