There is much to enjoy at Serenata, and much to admire.
Fist the location: above Island Harbour in a completely serene site. No other view from the terrace than trees in the garden and the native vegetation beyond that, then the ocean: no other noise than the distant rollers on the reef, the rustling palms in the (sometimes strong) wind, and the turtle doves that wake you in the morning. The neighbours to the west were never there during our month's stay, and those to the east were scrupulously quiet.
You will grow to admire the layout of Serenata, the well-kept colourful garden that Wilson keeps watered. I particularly recommend a good look at the dry stone wall that encloses it, artfully done in the local manner of two-tone stones . One of the best in the island.
The inside is quite spare, almost ascetic in its immaculate white, built to catch and keep the light. The floor of the great room is white tile, and some original art (not too much; you will long remember the depiction of a children's model sailboat race by Wemes that greets you on the left-hand wall; see if you can find the original of the houses that she grouped above the children) takes advantage of those white walls. The living room furniture is rattan, comfortable and complete, down to the stand alone glass top dining table. One small table and a desk, three armchairs: no other furniture. Complete, but nothing superfluous.
Then there is the gallery/verandah. 60 feet of arches open to the North and to the inspection of birds in search of your breakfast crumbs (feeding them is probably a mistake, and expose all that lovely white paint to regrettable accidents). The floor is the same tile as the inside: extreme caution after rain: it becomes very slippery, and running toddlers risk serious injury. But you will not find a more serene spot than one of the four lounge chairs.
The property's maintenance is excellent. There is not one flaw in the vast amount of screening necessary for the enormous amount of windows (bay windows and windows along the entire gallery). There was not a mark on any of the walls, any of the off-white counters.
For places like Serenata, my wife and I are thankful.
The owners (Maddeline and Rocco are a phone call away (even in the middle of the night when, left in a completely dark island by a power interruption, we had to ask where the flashlight was), and prompt to answer questions and fix problems. They were careful not to intrude,, but very helpful nonetheless.
My son & I had a wonderful stay at Villa Serenata in April 2015. I've been coming to Anguilla for 20 years, and always choose to stay in the Shoal Bay/Sea Rocks area. This was my first stay at Villa Serenata, and it was perfect! Maddelena and her family were warm, welcoming, and attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable & enjoyable. The house is in a great location, and is clean and spacious. Beautiful garden and ocean views!
We (two adults, and a three year old) had an absolutely fantastic stay at Villa Serenata for 12 nights in March 2015. Maddelena was an amazing "hostess" -- so kind, warm and welcoming from our first telephone call to our final, tearful goodbyes. The villa was amazing: spatious with a fantastic ocean view, a beautiful garden, and all the comforts of home. Maddelena (villa owner) provided us with many pre-arrival suggestions and fantastic island information, as well as being so kind to meet us at Blowing Point and transporting us to the villa, where our car from Apex-Avis was waiting for us. This was our first trip to Anguilla -- but, it's definitely not our last!! I could just ramble on and on about every detail of our experience ... but, I'll spare you the lengthy read and simply say -- GO TO ANGUILLA NOW and stay at VILLA SERENATA ... you'll be so glad you did and will be so very sad to leave! Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer ... the people of Anguilla, the sense of community that we felt everywhere we went, the gorgeous island vibe and of course, the amazing beaches struck a chord with us that will keep us coming back for more -- Thank you Maddelena (and Rocco) -- you're simply the best!
We have been coming to Anguilla for 20 years and have been at Villa Serenata the last five. For us it is perfect in every way. Location is within walking distance to Shoal Bay East, we have the most beautiful view of the green blue sea. The villa itself is well appointed and beautifully maintained. Madeleine and Rocco are wonderful and gracious landlords. Here's to the next 20 years
Visitors to Villa Serenata are in for a treat! The owners of VS "care" and go out of their way to insure everything is working and that the villa is clean. The view from VS is fantastic, the area is safe, and the walled gardens allow for ultimate privacy. Staying at Villa Serenata you are only a short drive from a magical beach, Shoal Bay East, and local restaurants and markets. The kitchen is large and well equipped; perfect for entertaining. The bedrooms all have their own separate bathrooms allowing each couple/family member maximum privacy. This was our third stay at Villa Serenata. Thank you Madeline and Rocco for allowing us to stay at Villa Serenata.
My family has been staying on Anguilla for 20 years. We were lucky enough to meet the owners of Villa Serenata about 8 years ago while on Shoal Bay. Boy was this luck! For years we stayed on the West End of the island. Never again! We LOVE Island Harbor and Shoal Bay, and this home is smack dab in the middle. Madeline and Rocco take great pride in the care and maintenance of their house, and it certainly shows. They are lovely and gracious people and hosts! The house is well equipped for cooking, which we love doing. Not only have we rented the house for our family, I have also taken friends down for yoga retreats. It is great for couples, families with kids or teens, and a girls getaway! I love the fact that it is just a 5 minute drive to Elodias at Shoal Bay. This is so convenient if someone forgets something at the house. Also, you can walk to Le Bon Pain, the best bakery on the island! (I met one of my now best friends walking back from LBP!) Oh, did I mention that it is a great value! Thanks M and R for all the wonderful laughs and for letting us stay in your beautiful home!!!!!
