This 3 bedroom, 2 bath beach house is an upper unit. Simply walk down the stairs and step ONTO THE SAND. The outer patio on the sand with a barbecue grill, fire pit, umbrella, a picnic table and benches belong to this unit. Open your eyes and gaze out at the beautiful blue pacific ocean. This is it. Treat yourself to a wonderful experience.

-Free WIFI, 3 Queen size beds, full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, fully stocked kitchen with all plates utensils, cookware, etc, 2 full baths, coffee table, TV w HD cable package, 3 closets, clothes rack with shelf space.

We had a very nice stay the kitchen was well equipped the beds were very comfortable it was a nice roomy place although the beach was very populated because it was Fourth of July week the only complaint is there didn't seem to be any air conditioning Ram was very attentive and a really nice guy we would love to come back as long as the ac was working

Owner's Response: Thank you Michelle for your input. The beach is very much like a private beach generally as there is minimal public parking in this area. July 4th is always crowded on all the beaches though. The temparature on the beach throughout the year is between 60 and 80 degrees. Sometimes, though rarely, it can get a little warmer. That is why, almost all homes on the sand don't have air conditioning. We do have fans in all bed rooms though, just in case. Ram

The location and view is awesome!

The location and view is what we paid for. Although the house needs some updates and repairs it was very clean. The owner responded quickly and all our needs were met above our expectations. A perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach and ocean.

Disappointing but doesn't have to be

This rental has all the potential of first rate beach vacation spot, with none of it realized. The view and setting are outstanding. The accommodations are chintzy and falling apart. We reported the torn and hanging window shades that greeted us, and right away had to start a list. But we gave up on watching television, locking the door, loose bathroom tile, tubs not draining, difficult shower mechanism, the one-half towel per person with no bath mats, the flea market kitchenware (we bought paper plates and plastic cutlery), no wine glasses, frozen ice maker, peeling kitchen sink, burned out light bulbs everywhere including the outside entry light at the top of steep steps, lousy dishwasher, tripped out electricity, rusty beach chairs, you name it. Fortunately the extension ladder works so that we could get in through the balcony when the faulty door code mechanism locked us out. Reporting the shortcomings we would have spent the entire time there on the phone and with repair people in and out. Apparently the house is going to be torn down and replaced, but that is no excuse for not providing any amenities and few basics, especially at this price. Too bad. We would have loved it!

Owner's Response: I am sad to read this review as reviews matter in any business. But I think that the review was bad because we refused to fall for the tricks of Ann's husband who was trying to find some issues and get a refund. Those of you who run a business are probably well aware of customers trying to extort funds from you with the threat of writing a bad reviews and many times bring back half used merchandise. The window shade had no tears till that morning as per the housekeeping but somehow this tenant reported it shortly after entering the unit. Since we were not sure if the housekeeping caused the ripping or this tenant did, we did not blame the tenant and refunded the full security deposit after they left. We also allowed a late check out as they had requested. They paid $2250 for a five night stay ($450/night average) at a 3bdr unit at the upper level of a duplex on the sand in Los Angeles, which will probably be the cost of a single bedroom rental in a hotel in such a location. 'Shutters' in Santa Monica, starts at $489/night for one room and then you pay for all the food and drinks as well. This unit is about 1500 sq ft and has 3 bdr/2bths, a large family room / dining area, a kitchen, a standing only balcony and a patio on the sand with chairs, table, beach umbrella, firepit and barbecue. And it comes with almost guarenteed daily gorgeous sunsets over the Pacific ocean and Santa Monica Mountains. The tenants did not report any further issues till the night of May 15th as they were scheduled to check out on the 16th and the husband wanted a refund. What I don't understand is how come they did not report any problems except the ripped shade and the excessive ice in the freezer, till four days after they checked in. And there was no reason to go into the unit through the balcony with a ladder, when we do have back up keys in the lock box and Ann's husband was given the code for the back up lock when he called with the electronic lock problem on the May 15th night. Just because we do intend to rebuild the unit in a couple of years (that is how much time the permits and approvals take), we are not ignoring the unit as we ourselves spend quite a few days there. We have replaced the lock on the door since and replaced the cable box as well.

I stayed in the property for two weeks. The place is ample, clean and well located. I had a minor problem with the water and was immediately fixed. Myself and family fully enjoyed our stay.

A spectacular place to stay, we had the perfect ho

We had booked the holiday in order to meet my son who was journeying from New Zealand, we travelled from the UK and LA was approximately half way. The place was perfect, quiet but with enough shops and places to eat. The house was spectacular with its position on the beach. Every day myself and my grandchildren would walk to the water and watch the Pelicans. The apartment was light, clean and spacious and had everything we required for our stay. It was comfortable and practical and that suited us with the two children. Customer service was excellent with all communications answered promptly, and clear directions which were very helpful and made the trip stress free. I would definitely recommend the apartment and Playa del Rey as a place. We have only the happiest memories of our stay there.

Disappointing Experience

Unfortunately, me and my family were very disappointed with the experience. The first disappointment was when we arrived, we discovered that the place is an upper unit without direct access to the beach and without any access to the patio on the sand. We felt the pictures were misleading in that respect, and I strongly feel the unit description on the website should've mentioned that. The second issue was that there was no hot water when we arrived. I called the contact number provided, and they sort of fixed the issue - the unit had two bathrooms that neither had hot water at first, but then only one had hot water after I called about it. The third issue we noticed was cleanliness of some parts of the unit. Another issue was one of the beds was very squeaky that made it practically unusable. Also, I would not call this unit completely renovated, although, some parts are updated. Finally, I felt that the people managing this were not pleasant to deal with. Disappointing experience.
