Property Description:

This listing is for a remodeled 3 bedroom, 2 bath full-floor penthouse flat in the historic Telegraph Hill / North Beach neighborhood. The apartment has breathtaking views of the Bay Bridge and the Bay Lights from the living area and the master bedroom. This is the historic area that you want to stay during your San Francisco holiday. The entire 1909 Edwardian building has just been remodeled, including upgraded plumbing and electrical. The unit has beautiful views of San Francisco Bay, the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge. The building is located on the slopes of Telegraph Hill near Coit Tower and the Barbary Coast Trail. The building has been featured on the 'Streets of San Francisco' and this iconic block has been in several films such as 'Basic Instinct' and 'The Hulk'. World famous artists and photographers have featured this portion of Montgomery street in their works. Movies, TV shows and commercials are shot here often.

The property features modern and comfortable conveniences, with professionals and business travelers in mind. Although the property is newly remodeled, I have maintained the historic high ceilings, hardwood floors and classic Edwardian facade. The two main bedrooms will have new hotel quality mattresses, linens and bath towels. The newly remodeled kitchen features stainless steel appliances and will be stocked with utensils and cookware for six adults. The third bedroom will be furnished with two twin beds that can be configured together.

The flat also includes: in-unit washer and dryer, high-speed internet (available through a secured WI-FI network, cable television, including On-Demand movies & television is also included. IPod / iPhone speakers are available. The unit also has a room safe so you can secure your personal belongings as you would in a hotel.

Since the unit is a 3rd floor penthouse and located on a hill, access for wheelchairs and strollers would be very difficult. No parking is offered with the unit and I don't recommend travelers rent autos during their stay here since San Francisco is a difficult place to find parking. In any case, the property has a Walkscore rating of 100/100 so a car is quite unnecessary.

This is my private unit, so it is not designed to be a boarding house or hostel. I am looking for responsible people that will take good care of the place.

Why Richard chose San Francisco

This property is in an amazing location. It is close to downtown, the Embarcadero, Chinatown, North Beach and Russian Hill. I do not suggest travelers attempt to drive or rent a car when staying in san Francisco. When I stay here, I walk or take taxis. Cab fares are comparable to other major cities.

What makes this apartment unique

This one-of-a-kind property is located on the slopes of Telegraph Hill, near the Barbary Coast Trail. You can enjoy the view with your significant other The neighborhood offers everything in walking distance... from small convenience stores and cafe's to Michelin two star restaurants like Coi. In the morning, you can easily stroll to the Cafe Trieste or Blue Bottle Cafe at the Ferry Building to pickup a coffee. If you are patient, you can brave the breakfast line at Mama's, across from the park. You can spend the rest of the morning exploring all the landmarks of the neighborhood and boutiques of Grant Avenue. If need be, recharge with a midday slice at Tony's for lunch or a simple gelato in Washington Square Park. In the summer, bring a swimsuit and sunbathe with the other beautiful people. For dinner, you can walk down to Gerald Hirigoyen's Piperade for excellent Basque cuisine. If you still have room, follow that up with a handmade soufflé' from Cafe Jacqueline. Still awake? You can adventure out to world class bars and nightclubs and stumble back whenever you like. San Francisco offers everything for the night owl... you just need to know where to look.

From the moment we entered the apartment, all we could say was “WOW!” This beautiful Telegraph Hill flat provides picture perfect views. The large windows of the main room and master bedroom were open to enjoy every scenic moment. In the early mornings, the world was quiet with the sound of the occasional fog horn in the distance while the sun gently filled the master bedroom. Just as enticing, as the evening sun went down, we would watch the lights on the bridge turn on while sipping a glass of champagne. The penthouse has been nicely remodeled and tastefully decorated with a balance of up-to-date appliances and conveniences, while still maintaining the historic San Francisco Edwardian charm on the outside. Beautiful hardwood floors shine throughout. There is a nice separation between the master bedroom and the other two large bedrooms. The beds and linens were extremely comfortable. The penthouse is spacious and airy with high ceilings and filled with natural light and plenty of storage. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bathrooms were elegantly renovated and professionally cleaned. The towels were plush and hotel quality. The location was ideal for us. The walkability to restaurants, cafes, and shopping was a plus to staying in the unit itself. Historic landmarks such as Coit Tower, Embarcadero, Ferry Plaza, and Transamerica Pyramid (just to name a few) surrounded us. When we did require transportation for farther locations, cabs were nearby, easy to hire, and could get us anywhere we needed to go. The home was a relaxing place for us to land after a full day of walking and sightseeing. The owner, Richard, was very accommodating and helpful. His professionalism was apparent in the entire booking and check in/out process. He was prompt in his replies to my initial inquiry and questions. Richard presented us with an informative email prior to our arrival providing suggestions and recommendations for things to do in the area. I could tell right away I was dealing with a very experienced owner. It was definitely hard to leave when our vacation ended. Thank you Richard, for hosting us Bears at your lovely apartment!

Exceptional Apartment in great part of town

Richard was the easiest person to deal with over booking this apartment. Nothing was a problem. Everything was as described. The views from the bedroom and small lounge room were what you want when staying in SF. Everything worked, great beds and a central point to explore San Francsico. We will be back!

Fantastic Rental!

We truly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful apartment with our two adult children. Conveniently located on a lovely street, we walked to many of the local attractions, including Fishemans Wharf, Coit Tower, China Town, restaurants and grocery stores. We definitely didn't need a car. The apartment was tastefully furnished and very comfortable with amazing views of the Bay Bridge. Most importantly, all the beds were superior and much welcomed after a full day of walking the hills of San Francisco. Richard, the Owner, was quick to respond and offered helpful information throughout our stay. I highly recommend this place when visiting San Francisco.

Great flat, Great Owner and Great Location!

This 3rd floor apartment has been perfectly renovated - everything is in perfect condition, modern appliances and fixtures and beautiful hardwood floors. The owner, Richard is extremely responsive and helpful. Then there is the location - on top of telegraph hill with a fantastic view of the bay bridge. Our group was a fit one, but if you have anyone in your group that has difficulties walking or any serious ailments, then this place is not for you (on a very steep hill and with 34 stairs from the street to the flat)!

Great rental for fit families.

Our family of 6 stayed in the penthouse for 4 nights between Xmas and New Years. Our main goal was to see the NFL game in Levi Stadium tacking on a few days to see SF. Not a prime location for the football game as the stadium is 2 hours south in Santa Clara, but it was ideal for sightseeing SF without a car. As mentioned in other reviews the condo is up a hill and 34 steps, but the effort is rewarded with wonderful views. The bathrooms had good water pressure for showers and nice towels. The living room is small but worked for the little amount if time we spent in it. There were several TVs but we never turned them on. Beds were very comfortable and rooms had lots of room for our luggage and clothing. Many italian restaurants nearby if heading west on Vallejo towards Columbus. Broadway just south of the condo was a little seedy and we avoided that area late at night but otherwise had no concerns with our safety walking to and from dinner spots. Wear your walking shoes and you can get to pretty much everything from this location. SF public transit is also excellent and we used it for further excursions. Will be back here for our next SF trip!

Great family rental in SF!

We stayed here during a recent trip, in the penthouse apartment, and really enjoyed it! Below are personally some things I liked and didn't like (as I do for all of my TA reviews)....

Things I liked:

1. Great closet space! In every bedroom!

2. The views from the smaller master and the living room were wonderful! It was nice seeing the Bay Bridge and city, especially in the morning with the fog covering everything.

3. Nice washer and dryer (stack-able and in closet off kitchen)! We used these a lot as some of our family had just come back from 2 weeks in Hawaii.

4. Really liked all the decor, finishings, etc. in the living area, bedrooms and kitchen. Didn't use the kitchen (aside from microwaving leftover dinners and "making" cereal for breakfast.

5. Living room is small but never felt cluttered - we all fit on the couches and would bring in chairs from the dining set if needed.

6. Good location - walk up the Vallejo steps (and then down) to North Beach. Coit Tower wasn't far. We did walk to AT&T Park and to the Wharf - I think it was about 1.5-2 miles but wasn't terrible. The fact that SF isn't "hot" was a plus for these walks. If you don't feel like walking, sign up for the Uber App and get someone to pick you up!

Things I didn't like:

1. Parking situation - we had 2 rental cars and had to park in a garage. The garage is a block away but going there it is downhill and coming back to the apartment after parking it is uphill.. Yes I know SF is full of hills, but we were often dropped off on the corner and one person would go down to park so we all didn't have to walk the hills.

2. Cot was very uncomfortable (I didn't sleep on it but my brother did for 2 nights)

3. The door in the smaller master bedroom would constantly close - we joked there was a ghost in there. You would be in the room getting ready and the door would just close. It needs a magnetic door stop or something.

4. There were scuffs on the wall. I know it's a corporate rental but a magic eraser would do wonders!

5. 33 steps from the downstairs entrance up to the apartment. Beware if stairs are an issue! Thankfully we had big, strong guys with us to carry our heavy suitcases up and down.

6. Dining table in kitchen seats 4 - don't plan to make dinners, etc. if you have more than that. The table ended up having our laptops on it for the week and we never used it for food.

7. Bathroom lights would go off mid shower! Make sure to turn on the automatic timers!

Owner's Response: I apologize for the scuffs on the wall. I just completed a round of touch-up painting to rectify that situation. As far as the cot, that's the best one I could find and it was sourced from a hotel supply company. I will take another look at the bedroom door. Unfortunately, there is no way to shrink the stairs!
