Gorgeous Mountain Home #2

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Bath, (Sleeps 10)

This gorgeous mountain home is located in the Santa Catalina Mountains located in the Coronado National Forest north of Tucson, Arizona. It is located in Mt. Lemmon which is 9,157 feet above sea-level and receives approximately 180 inches of snow annually. Summerhaven is the beautiful small town near the top of the mountain. This home is within walking distance to this town. It is a summer residence for some Tucson residents. It is near Ski Valley which is the southernmost ski destination in the US.

This beautiful home is two levels of spacious living. The views are breath taking and especially while sitting out on the beautiful stone patio under the star lit sky, among over 80 fruit trees. There is a built in fire pit located on the patio next to the built in BBQ grill and includes patio set. The kitchen is fully equipped for entertaining family and guests. This serene setting is always 45 degrees cooler in the summer than Tucson! Temperatures range anywhere from 60 to 75 degrees in the summer. There are many hiking trails, all of which we have information on located in the cabin for your enjoyment. Also located near this home is the incredible University of Arizona, Mt. Lemmon Sky Center. This SkyCenter presents programs all nights of the week and during the days in summer months. Information for reservations also available in the home. This program is an exceptional science learning facility!

Also located near this home is the Rose Canyon Lake and resort. This lake is surrounded by Pondersoa Pines and although this area burned during the devastating Aspen Fire of 2003, many of the larger trees survived. The Catalina Highway, also called the Mt. Lemmon Highway runs up the Santa Catalina Mountains, from the east of Tucson up to Summerhaven. Get your camera out for the ride up, there are plenty of stops along the way for stopping for breathtaking views and photos.

The upper larger cabin mentioned can be viewed on AIRBNB as Gorgeous Mtn #1

About Carolyn LeCocq

Al is a native Tucsonan and Carolyn is originally from Minnesota and has lived in Tucson for over 35 years. We absolutely love the desert and the beautiful mountain life.

Carolyn LeCocq purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Carolyn LeCocq chose Summerhaven

Al is a Tucson custom home builder and built our home on Mt. Lemmon originally in 2003. We had it finished about one year when the ASPEN fire took it along with about 350 other homes. Nothing was left except a small angel we had in our cabin and the tin roof. We immediately started the process and rebuilt the exact same cabin again! We loved the layout and did not change anything.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the quiet, peaceful, serenity that is felt while up on the mountain. The air is fresh and the smell is clean. The birds sing and the days are quiet. We love to relax, prepare a wonderful meal, watch movies, catch up on our reading, hike and enjoy the quiet evenings while watching the beautiful star lit skies.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The stay at your cabin was an absolute blessing. Everything was in order, neat, clean and very restful. We enjoyed a great night sleep, wonderful fellowship and the atmosphere up here in Summerhaven was beyond description.

Thank you for providing this place to stay along with all the amenities. We all LOVED it!

Be Blessed!

Beautiful cabin in a great location! Walking distance to the little town but without the noise of the main road. Plenty of sleeping areas and easy to use kitchen. We enjoyed our stay!

Cabin 2

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was beautiful, the only bad thing about the cabin it was under construction. Workers arrived at the cabin about8am (hammering, drilling, and etc) when i was hoping to sleep in for a few. Also, the cabin stated that it would.have Wi-Fi but it was not available . For not having any of those the owners let us check out later then 11am.

Owner's Response: We apologize for the construction workers. They were suppose to come later in the day and secure the broken rail. We didn't want to let it go since it had just happened with the previous renters and we didn't want anyone to get injured from it. The internet CAN be intermittent with the weather etc. We are sorry this happened on your stay and would love to have you enjoy an additional day FREE next time you rent. Al & Carolyn

We actually ended up renting the top unit of this house. I realized that I had made a mistake when booking and that the listing on VRBO is the lower (smaller) unit. We were lucky that the top unit was available and we upgraded. This brought the cleaning fee up this rental as well to a high amount. I brought my family, in laws and some friends up for the weekend as a treat. I was so embarrassed at the condition of this place. We spent an hour the next day cleaning the outside area so we could sit out there and entertain. They had empty soil bags, trash and garden hoses not put away. I mention the hoses because this place is on a very steep hill. The last thing you need is any obstacle that you might trip on. They have a mouse problem. A big mouse problem. I get it, but there were mouse feces and urine all over the house. My daughter got her finger in a snap trap because they are everywhere. There were dust bunnies all over, carpet not even vacuumed. Satellite TV did not work. There is a closet where you can access the DVD player and I’m not sure it had ever been cleaned. Gagging with mouse droppings. There was a lit candle when we got there and another one melted all over a speaker. Something I would think they would bother to clean up. I emailed the owner with photos. Never got a response, but they cashed my check for the extra fees. My family has never rented from VRBO with a house in this condition. For this amount of money look at the Altitude house. Very disappointed.

Owner's Response: Property was clean The guest picked this cabin on VRBO. But then found our other cabin listed on another site. Since the one above is larger and was vacant, I offered it to her and explained it would be additional fees. She agreed to this. She admitted that she did not read the instructions and directions for using the home, so therefore, got lost going up and was very upset when she called us for directions. Secondly. She stated in her email: "I also wanted you to know that we are having a few friends up for two hours on Saturday afternoon to celebrate my sons fourth birthday". Not all these family and friends for the weekend. The fee as stated in the instructions is not a "cleaning fee" . It is a sani fee.It is for the laundry and re-sanitizing, not to have to clean up a mess from the guests stay. These folks had a lot of guests and mostly children (I assume) since there was food and crumbs EVERYWHERE. Dirty counters, dirty floors, the place was horribly dirty. I'm assuming that when the guest left the check for the additional fees, she didn't want to pay so complained hoping we wouldn't charge her extra for the huge mess that was leftt and we didn't charge her more for having to clean up this big mess. The home was cleaned by our family and my husband waited there for them until late and when they didn't come he left and left the candle burning. Not a problem at all. The mice come and go. There was some droppings behind a sofa and as stated in the info, we do get mice once in a while. We keep a trap set behind some places (just in case) Not out in the open. The hoses were out of the way and are there watering our 100 fruit trees. The patio was clear. The seed bags off the patio. She emailed me after and I responded to her. The home was TOTALLY clean and ready for renters. We never have had anyone leave such a disgusting mess.

We rented the entire cabin and had a great stay. There were 11 of us and we each had own bed which was nice. The bedrooms were nice, the bathrooms sufficient (although if you all want to shower or go in the hot tub I would suggest bringing your own towels up). Kitchen was fully stocked with plates, cups, silverware, etc so that was great. Mouse pellets in the cupboards but you are in the mountains, so of course! we did see a mouse on the second floor that we successfully chased out :-) The upstairs deck is a little unsteady (especially the railing going down) but as long as you are careful you can navigate it just fine. We were all able to sit and congregate and have a good time. The cleaning was not difficult to do, we brought a few large sturdy garbage bags to transport the garbage down the mountain. There are coffee filters. (I would suggest whoever cleans to make sure they check the coffee pots, there were some old moldy grounds left in the pot downstairs but nothing a little elbow grease could not handle). Wi Fi password is on the table on the directions, not in the books. If you get a chance to put it in the books, that would be great. Owners were very easy to reach and communicated quickly. We must have made a skunk mad, he sprayed around or toward the cabin all weekend. but we lit candles and had some febreeze that seemed to help. Overall a good stay! We would go there again!

Owner's Response: Thank you! It was a pleasure having you! Sorry you had to experience one of the little skunks that appear now and then. Same with the mice! Thank you for the heads up on the coffee machine, we will certainly remind the cleaning ladies. Will go back and make sure the password is in the book again. Thanks for your reservation. Come again!

Place was non functional for TV, PC wifi or downstairs shower. Lower area grill area was a mess and looked unused for a long period of time. Owner was extremely difficult to contact and left us confused as to what unit we were renting. When we informed her we were in the upper unit, she informed us it was more expensive and charged me $150 extra for the 2 day stay or move to the lower unit. As we were all unpacked, we chose not to move again. Total experience was not a unit I would recommend.

Owner's Response: I am not sure what the "non function" was with the listed items (TV, wiFi and shower) Everything was working the day that we opened the door for them. We are always available for calls. There are four contacts provided. We did not receive any calls in regards to any of these items not working. The tenants who came in right after them had no issues at all with any of these things. As far as the extra charges, the tenant went in the larger cabin, even though the day prior we had a conversation about the actual one that they had rented. Once I found out they entered the larger one anyway I called again and the tenant asked if they could stay in the larger one since they had already moved in and he stated they were willing to pay extra for this! The home was left very dirty. There was food all over. There is a "no pet policy" for this cabin and it states that on the listing, however there was definitely a dog in the home as there was LOTS of dog hair everywhere. NO additional charges were presented to them, even though my policies clearly states no pets and the home must be left clean.
