About Owner

My wife Pat and I are from Florida and we came to Maggie Valley for family reunions and to get away from the heat in the summer. We chose Sleepy Bear because it rarely gets above 80 degrees in the summer here and we feel incredibly relaxed in a comfortable 'bearsy, woodsy , moosey ' setting. We love to share our home with others because we know they will have an unforgettable experience.

Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Owner chose Maggie Valley

Gated secure, secluded community in a heavily wooded area

What makes this cabin unique

One of the best views on the mountain towards Smoky Mountain National Park. Near top of mountain for convenient access to both quaint Waynesville (down south side of mountain) and countryish Maggie Valley (down north side) . Gently sloped homesite provides safety for kids, pets. close to Laurel Ridge and Maggie Valley Country Clubs (5 min).

Beautiful, relaxing, family fun for Thanksgiving week!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back to Tampa today from our visit - the home was amazing and the service from the property management company was also excellent - they were immediately responsive to us. We have 3 kids ages 9, 12 and 16 and they all had a blast exploring the grounds, playing in the game room, playing board games, card games and putting together puzzles. While we were there, we went to downtown Maggie Valley. Our kids loved the Mast General store - the whole town is super dog friendly so we were able to take our little fur friend with us everywhere. We checked out the elks one evening - a definite must-do! Went to Biltmore, Biltmore Village, Asheville, Soco Falls. Snow tubing wasn't open this early for us this year so the kids were sad about that! My husband and I enjoyed coffee on the deck every morning relaxing with a beautiful view. And inside we had a roaring fire burning in the wood-burning fireplace upstairs every day. It was so cozy. If it were up to me, I never would've left the cabin!

The home has a very well-stocked kitchen. I brought my own crock pot and large roasting pan and roasting rack, etc...to make turkey dinner but I didn't need any of it - the kitchen had it all!

Only 2 things would've made it better: if the downstairs (gas) fireplace was working (it's my understanding that they've been trying to get this fixed for a few weeks and the fireplace company just hasn't yet done it), and a sharp chef knife. Definitely bring your own fave knife if you really like to cook - although the kitchen is loaded with everything you need, the knives aren't sharp.

Fantastic place and we will be back!

Beautiful view and lovely cabin

  • 5 of 5

Some minor things could have been taken care before we arrived such as blown light bulbs and the decks blown off.

Well thought out. Great view. Clean and spacious.

  • 4 of 5

Bad first and its a short list : Carpet down stairs showing lots of stains, as a white carpet does. Wifi is basically non existent, i couldnt even send or receive emails. Wasnt a big deal but if you require it this place wont work. Comforters are nice but not very clean , one had quite a few stains. Not very private as neighbors are close and road is very close and on 3 sides. No actual firepit, no hot tub. Honestly the only thing that was an issue for me was the comforter so we didnt use them. Other bedding was comfy and clean .

The good: lots of room to spread out. 3 levels of sleeping space. Kids room on lower level is great and has 4 beds. 2 master suites on main level, big bathroom space and closet space. 4th br on upper level by itself with a good view from loft. Includes good sized bathroom and a closet in a closet. Linens and beds are all comfy and in good shape minus comforters. Bathrooms are all clean updated and in good working order. Kitchen is a little small but works well and has all you need. Appliances all in good shape and clean. Plenty of firewood for the fireplace upstairs which was nice and a gas starter that needs to be repaired but for now works. Grill isnt anything to get excited about, but had propane.nice deck with a killer view day and night. Pool table , darts, checkers, partial kitchen and bar on lower level . Easy to get to neighborhood and though the house is up a winding steep road almost at the top of mountain, also easy to get to house. Ice or snow may be a different story...very cozy perfect for a quiet long weekend by the fire eating ,drinking and sleeping in. Thanks!

Owner's Response: Matt thank you for being a valued guest and for your thorough and positive review. To clarify ,WiFi does work very adequately there as I just used it myself including emails so regrettably you had some kind of connection issue that probably could have been immediately resolved by the on site rental agent . You were there when the leaves were off the trees which does reveal other houses but we have found our place to be reasonably secluded due to the fact we are so high on the mountain and our two acre lot is heavily wooded. The carpet was recently deep cleaned so the temporary stains were removed. Hope you had a chance to use the indoor jetted hot tub. The firepit is being replaced . .

A great cabin with fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

We had family visiting from England and wanted to show them the beautiful Smoky mountains and this was the perfect base. The view from the deck was stunning. The house was well equipped with everything we needed, comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed evenings in the game room. We visited Waynesville and enjoyed walking around the local shops. We also drove to Newfound Gap and enjoyed the beautiful views along the way. We would highly recommend this property.

Wonderful Vacation in the Mountains Escaping Hurricane Irma

  • 4 of 5

Four months ago, we booked a seven night stay at this property not knowing that we would need to leave Florida earlier to escape Hurricane Irma. We are so glad we left two days earlier and were able to book this property for an additional two days. Our party of eight from PA, VA, and FL thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very comfortable. The location was great and we wish we could have stayed longer. The house does need some maintenance and the carpet in the lower level does need replacing; but overall it was a wonderful experience. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Family reunited

  • 5 of 5

We came up for a 4 day weekend when my son got married. I loved every morning drinking my coffee on the deck looking at the amazing view. The house was spacious enough for us all,. It was like the good old days fixing a big breakfast and we all gather around the large table talking laughing and catching up. This would be my dream home to retire in. Great location for us all,. Not far from shopping, casino, and hiking.
