My survival farm has a new duplex log cabin that was custom built in 2006, on 3 ½ acres and surrounded by 20 or more virgin acres with mountain views. For those who want to become more engaging in the daily farm chores for kids they can collect eggs, feed goats and chickens. When work is available, I offer $25, $20 hour rates depending on the task; chopping wood, hauling mulch, gravel, trimming goat hooves, garden and other farm duties. Both sides of the cabin may be available. For those that just want to relax and enjoy the mountains, you can rest assured that my farm and cabin are very well maintained. I will consider renting one side of cabin long term, yearly, rate may vary depending on how many people and or pets . Must have all wheel or 4 wheel to get through winter,
We are only 5 miles to downtown Boone, College and 13 miles to Appalachian ski slopes.
Situated above the log cabin on the high mountains slopes are the Farm Animals, rare Nigerian Dwarf Goats, and Chickens. I live in a small mini cabin above the log cabin, with my animals during spring, summer and fall. I go to Florida for winter so the animals go to other farms but I still rent out the cabins.
Our Hen house is open to quests to visit the hens and help themselves to some country eggs when they are laying for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Also the vegetable gardens are free to pick salads and vegetable as plan your meals.
Our berry patches are also free for the picking. We have in season, blueberries and, blackberries. Usually don't ripe until August.
Hikers there are trails going down to the Falls below me and right behind the cabin is an easy level trail leading to the goldfish pond filled naturally with water trickling off the mountain. Lots of the wildflowers and wild edibles that can be used for herbal remedies, medicinal. Master bedroom has a nice sliding glass door that opens to your very private back deck/porch. Lots of walking grounds for walking a dog or just enjoying. At 4,000 elevation, ceiling fans are all you need in summer with temperatures around 73 degrees. We are situated on the east side of the mountain, protecting us from a lot of the harsh winds in winter and keeping cool in the summer.
Bonfire pit has a grill on it and you can barbecue right there, roast marshmallow, sit around and enjoy the night air. Also have a nice permanently installed barbecue grill.
I have a nice circular drive and I am not on a steep slope so it is easy to get in and out of the property .
New queen size bed with memory foam topper. The cabin is very clean, and airy with lots of windows. Living room has a TV, queen size convertible couch, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, new appliances, new monitor heater.
Song birds, hummingbirds, and all kinds of birds visit our feeders. Squirrels and Chipmunks also enjoy the feeders. You might even see a deer from you bedroom sliding glass door.

Hi: This is me, Coleen, with my grandsons, Jacob and Jax in the chicken run. Jax is holding a chicken.
Coleen Moe purchased this cabin in 2006
You will enjoy the nature, the farm animals, the bonfire pit, the organic garden, the falls, creek, trails.
We came up for Parent's Weekend at ASU and could not find an affordable place to stay until we found this pretty little cabin. Coleen was very easy to work with and the cabin is very nice. It is tucked away on the mountain side and is very quiet and relaxing and had all we needed to be comfortable.
We did not have an opportunity to spend much time at the cabin this time but we will be back. Thanks Coleen!
We had a great getaway to this rental and it was so peaceful. The cabin itself is an inviting duplex. We really loved getting that quiet secluded feeling of being away from civilization. Yet it is not far from everything you would need such as gas, restaurants, nice highways to get around.
We hiked to the creek which is peaceful and pretty. The hike is steep and you would want good hiking shoes on. I would recommend this hike, which is short, for people over 10 with adult supervision.
There are beautiful chickens to feed and goats that are a little shy for kids to get to see in their free range habitat.
My family just enjoyed a fabulous, but all-too-short stay at Coleen's wonderful cabin over Thanksgiving! It was so cozy and inviting as we arrived to a late fall atmosphere, however by the next morning we were awakened by falling snow! It was absolutely beautiful and Coleen welcomed us with the local "snow report." For us, it offered the opportunity to explore some of the local ski areas, a surprise activity, to what we thought would be mostly hiking in the bare woods! We thoroughly recommend this wonderful hide-away, but not far from the great little city of Boone. We enjoyed it all, including Lucy, Coleen's dog, and the three goats who expertly cleaned out the pumpkin that we had thrown out on the front porch!
Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed this place. It is close to town, yet secluded on a mountain. You can relax and unwind, or work on the farm. The cabin has everything you could possibly need (bed, shower, fridge, stove, tv, couch...what else do you need in the mountains?) Coleen is great and she really truly appreciates the help you provide her (if you choose to work). She made me feel like the work I did was needed and that I really helped her out. Fresh eggs in the morning are a really great touch. Waking up and going down the mountain to the falls is a great way to start the morning. There is so much to do in this area that there is no way one could ever run out of things to do, and this little place is the perfect spot to settle in for a week. Oh and I can't forget Lucy, Coleen's dog. My dog loved her! She is very sweet. Thanks for everything Coleen, we had a great time!
From the time we stepped in the door we knew we made the right choice from the many rentals we reviewed online. The cabin was clean and well stocked with all the amenities you need. The area is very private and quiet makes you not even want to leave the place. The place is easy to find and even though it is gravel it is well maintained and easy to get to. It is a very beautiful place and many thing to do without leaving the cabin. The falls are down below the cabin and well worth the walk down to them. Coleen keep us stock in fresh eggs. They were very good. Coleen gives the place a very friendly atmosphere. She
tries to make all her guest feel like family. We really enjoyed talking to her while
we was there. The cabin only a short drives from all the main attractions, Grandfather mountain, Blowing Rock and West Jefferson. The grocery store close by also. We live in Arkansas and it was just a wonder place to go to get out of the 100 degree days we have here in August. The temperature never got over 74 degrees while we was on the mountain. We hope to get to make another trip out there next year and stay for a longer visit. Thanks Coleen for being such a great host for our much needed vacation. The Wilkerson's Family.
My family and I just returned from visiting Coleen's property and we had a wonderful time! The first day there I fed an adorable baby goat and met the rest of the farm animals! Lucy the dog was my favorite cabin visitor and my son had a blast exploring the property with her! We would love to come back and visit during warmer weather to see what everything under the snow looks like. :) I definitely recommend this property for a fun family getaway!
