Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 7)

Welcome to our century home in Niagara in the village of Jordan Station.

Here you will find yourselves in the heart of the Twenty Valley Niagara wine region with over 30 wonderful wineries, many provincial parks, shopping, restaurants, and award-winning golf courses all nearby. You will be only a 25-minute drive to Niagara Falls or Niagara-on-the-Lake (and the Shaw Festival) and less than an hour from Toronto or Buffalo/Fort Erie. Our house is set in a small village of century homes with nearby orchards and vineyards. It is just a 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk from Jordan Village and it's quaint and stylish shops and restaurants and the Inn On The Twenty.

Our house is a renovated century home built in 1909 and is loaded with character and charm in addition to being comfortably furnished. The main floor consists of a large, gourmet-friendly, country-kitchen with a large kitchen table to sit at and talk or eat. The kitchen looks out onto the spacious deck with patio furniture and a large, landscaped yard. Just off the kitchen is a bathroom (including a shower) and the laundry room.

The living room is at the front of the house and looks out onto our wrap-around porch. It is furnished with comfortable chairs and sofa, perfect for a quiet afternoon reading or napping. (Almost all of the rooms in the house have a collection of books for your reading pleasure.) Next to the sitting room is the dining room with an antique dining table and and a turn-of-the century jam cupboard.

On the second floor you will find the master bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a large walk-in closet. The second bedroom is also on this floor with a double-bed, antique dresser and charming, hand-painted wall mural. The main bathroom is large and modern, and has a wonderful full bath tub, perfect for a long soak and book read!

The third floor of the house is the attic-loft that has been recently renovated. It is spacious and bright with sitting chairs, a futon double-bed and a single bed tucked away in one of the alcoves. The loft also has a flat-screen HD-TV and DVD player with an interesting selection of movies/TV-series for your enjoyment. There's also a collection of games for everyone to enjoy.

Bonnie and I look forward to hearing from you and hope you have a wonderful stay in Niagara.

About James Young

Bonnie and James Young live in Toronto but sneak-away to Jordan Station whenever they can to this country house in Niagara.

James Young purchased this house in 2010

Why James Young chose Ontario

We had been visiting and staying in the Niagara wine region for years and came to the realization that we should make it a more permanent part of our lives. One day we hope to retire in the area.

What makes this house unique

Our Jordan Station house is over 100 years old, built for the son of this small town's patriarch from the 19th century. The house was fully renovated about 10 years ago and we have continued to update and upgrade the house since becoming the owners in 2010. Only one hour from Toronto, our Niagara house is one of our dreams come true and we hope your time spent in the heart of the Niagara region will become a memory of perfection!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The travelling comrades, the Wyoming and Oswego seven have filled your house with giggles and laughter, savory and sweet aromas, earnest and joyful conversation, sacred and silly song, and serious and whimsical planning. We have walked, hiked, shopped, tasted many wines, attended plays and generally made merry throughout our six days here in Jordan Station.

It was a delight to find the home so well stocked with culinary tools. How we have been blessed to sit on the front porch in the breaking forth of the day to meditate, and in the warmth and brightness of the afternoon to read and think. We enjoyed the deck with snacks and a drink, reading the paper and as a place to do morning exercise. Thank you for your generosity of opening your home.

Family Christmas

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our Family Christmas in this charming, cozy home. The house had everything we needed, and we truly appreciated the Christmas tree and decorations! The location was ideal for us, as it was close to other family members in the Niagara region. The beds were extremely comfortable-the loft was a huge hit! Thank you, James and Bonnie, for opening your home to us.

First Trip to Canada

  • 3 of 5

This was our first trip to Canada and we did not want to stay in the "tourist" area near Niagara Falls so instead chose this home which was about a 20 minute drive from Niagara Falls. The house was suitable for our needs and not far from many of the tourist attractions (Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, etc.) Quiet street - never heard any noise from the neighbors. One request we would make would be to ask the cleaning service to vacuum the rugs and wet mop the floors downstairs before each new guest arrival. The floors left our feet and socks very dirty each day.

Owner's Response: You can't please everyone, all the time. This was our first "3" star review in over 7 years of renting our Niagara house. Truly disappointing that someone felt that despite enjoying themselves in our hosue and without any significant issues with the house besides floors they felt weren't clean enough, they felt they should give it a 3 out of 5. Very sad that they never contacted us the owner but ultimately this a very unreasonable renter. Avoid if possible.

Great place for a wine country vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The house worked great for us. We had invited another couple to join us and our 25 year old daughter also wanted to come up for the weekends. The converted attic with the sleeping and lounging area was perfect for our daughter. The house was well equipped for cooking, although there are many great places to eat within walking distance. Wineries are nearby, our particular favorites were Tawse, Meglomaniac (best wine tastings) and Redstone (great restaurant). Our little dog also had a great time.

Great Niagara getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Had a fantastic time at this great house. Terrific backyard and all you would need inside for a relaxing getaway. I rented with 6 friends for a weekend in wine country. Close to plenty of wineries in the area but away from the main area which adds to the experience. We had dinner nearby at Pearl Morisette. Highly recommended!

James was very responsive and helpful. Would recommend this spot to anyone.

Amazing Century Home in Niagara

  • 5 of 5

Our family just spent a wonderful few days in this beautiful century old home. The home

was spacious, and very clean. The owners were great to deal with. This was our family

get together for Christmas, and we were so thankful for the decorations and the Christmas

tree, it made everything perfect for our family. Both Jim and his wife made this family time

for us very special, and we cannot thank them enough.

Perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Myself my wife, daughter, son in law and two grandchildren spent a lovely two weeks in this house visiting relatives and touring this wonderful area of Ontario. The house is spacious, clean and very comfortable with everything you need. The kids loved playing in the back yard while we enjoyed the deck. There is so much to do and see around this area we will surely be back. Thank you James and Bonnie for letting us use your lovely house.
