Our log home is equal parts luxury western lodge, private relaxing retreat and grand adventure headquarters mixed with a majestic dose of inspiration.

As The Adventure Couple, we have worked in luxury adventure travel all around the globe including two decades in the American West. So when we decided to create our perfect vacation home, we knew we wanted a special retreat. We wanted to create a unique experience blending our knowledge of the finest lodges and resorts from over 100 countries around the world.

Starting with an architect designed, custom log home, we drew inspiration from luxury boutique resorts like Relais and Chateau and Small Luxury Hotels of the World. So the home is outfitted with the finest bedding, hand crafted western furnishings from top designers, a unique selection of indigenous art from around the globe and award-winning nature photography.

To find the right place to turn our vision into reality, we emailed our “house resume” to real estate agents across the West and then drove through the Rocky Mountains from New Mexico to the Canadian border – exploring mountains, forests, valleys and rivers along the way. And when we first laid eyes on the Bitterroot Valley, we knew “this was it.”

The Bitterroot Valley had everything we were searching for – stunning scenery, millions of acres of national forest and wilderness, unlimited adventure activities, super friendly people, quaint towns, good restaurants; And all of those things minus the crowds.

Within this special valley, we carefully chose a location to build our lodge because not all home sites are equal. We discovered a location that benefits from an extraordinary amount of sunshine, absolute privacy and abundant wildlife - combined with stunning, 360-degree mountain views including the Continental Divide and Trapper Peak – the highest mountain in the range. The home is crafted to take advantage of the majestic views and wrapped with over 1200 square feet of decks.

Come and enjoy the best, majestic views in the valley and a luxury western Montana experience in this architect designed 2800SF luxury log home on 23 acres. Enjoy the log home as a relaxing retreat, romantic getaway or perfect base for year-around outdoor activities including hiking, blue ribbon fly fishing and skiing. Perfect for families, friends and couples wanting a visually stunning, relaxing, private and inspiring location. The home sits near National Forest land on three sides and is minutes from the Bitterroot River. Watch wildlife right on the property including elk, deer and bald eagles.

You've found the perfect place – relax on over 1200 square feet of outdoor decks with 360-degree majestic mountain views, a huge river rock fireplace, 8 person hot tub and pro home theater. Every night, look for shooting stars and satellites. The star watching is incredible!

MASTER BEDROOM, GUEST BEDROOMS & BATH HIGHLIGHTS

We took the Heavenly Bed and made it better, crafting what we call our most comfortable bed in the world. Pacific Coast Super Loft down comforters, Pacific Coast Luxe Loft feather beds, sumptuous pima cotton blankets, high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets (7oz premium flannel in the winter) and designer Western bedding sets all resting on Serta Luxury Edition double pillow top mattresses. You won’t want to get out of bed.

No need to fight over bedrooms because all three are large and outfitted with luxurious, king size beds. From all the bedrooms, you have amazing views of the Bitterroot Mountains and Trapper Peak - the highest peak in the range.

The custom designed master bath features an open shower with rain shower-head and a large, integrated Jacuzzi tub. When you are done, wrap yourself up in a fluffy spa-style, oversized bath sheet.

KITCHEN HIGHLIGHTS – for the Foodie

We love to cook, have dined at Michelin starred restaurants around the globe and have outfitted the kitchen to be a chef’s dream including commercial grade cookware and a gas Jenn-Air cooktop and range with convection and downdraft. The kitchen is fully outfitted with toaster, blender, food processor, dishwasher, microwave and large refrigerator. We even include a stocked spice rack.

Enjoy the espresso/cappuccino machine, Keurig machine and coffeemaker including fine espressos, coffees and tea. All included.

GREAT ROOM HIGHLIGHTS

The great room is the social hub of the house and has a 2 1/2 story high cathedral ceiling, massive river rock fireplace, fine leather furniture and pub table. The house layout lets you gather together or enjoy as much privacy as you like.

DINING ROOM HIGHLIGHTS

The dining room comfortably seats six with sweeping 270 degree panoramic mountain vistas. It doubles as a fantastic sun room in the mornings or game room in the evenings. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and listen to the sounds of nature. Watch the sun set over Trapper Peak and the Continental Divide.

MEDIA LOFT HIGHLIGHTS

The media loft offers a Denon pro home theater system with a 60” plasma HDTV and Bower & Wilkens reference speakers for fantastic sound clarity and surround. Sink into the huge double leather sofa that we call The Mitt. Also included is a Wii gaming system and a large DVD collection. Incredible for movies, sports or enjoying your favorite show. Stream music from your favorite device and turn it up as loud as you like. There’s no one around but you.

OUTDOOR DECKS HIGHLIGHTS

There are over 1200 sq. ft of decks including two different comfy lounge areas and and a granite dining table that seats six. And, of course, a gas grill. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner; and breathtaking sunrises or sunsets. After dinner, you can slip right into the large, 8 person hot tub and watch the nightly star show - highly recommended.

LOCATION

South of Darby MT, and only 5 miles up Rye Creek Road. Easy access to town, the river, restaurants, shopping, grocery, post office but once you're at the home, complete privacy. It’s the best of all worlds.

WINTER: 45 minutes to both Lost Trail and Chief Joseph ski areas. Cross country or snow shoe from the house or go up Rye Creek, N. Rye or Moonshine. Majestic views from the hot tub and a huge fireplace. A perfect winter getaway.

SUMMER (summer is booking fast!): you will run out of time before you could do everything! Including blue ribbon fly fishing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, tubing, white water rafting, wildlife viewing and a wilderness area the size of Switzerland. And awesome views from the decks and hot tub.

FALL: falls colors along the river, blue ribbon fly fishing, crisp nights, top trophy elk and deer hunting (no hunting allowed on property), great hiking and majestic views from the decks and hot tub.

SPRING: is a gorgeous time of year in the valley. The river is lush and beautiful but snow still clings to the highest mountains. The days are temperate and sunny and nights are cool and crisp. Wildlife is abundant. The trails, rivers and lakes are open and fly fishing is excellent.

WE HOPE THIS SPECIAL PLACE STEALS YOUR HEARTS THE WAY IT HAS OURS. Sincerely, Ridlon & Carin Kiphart, The Adventure Couple

About Ridlon & Carin Kiphart

As The Adventure Couple, we have over 20 years experience in the luxury hotel industry and wanted to create a mountain lodge retreat with the look and feel of the 5-Star western lodges we have stayed at over the years. In the summer, we spend time on the outdoor decks, love watching the abundant wildlife on the property, go hiking and enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub. In the winter, we love the skiing (downhill and x country) and chilling out by the fireplace. Every year, we travel and guide people to the most exotic places in the world but always look forward to coming back to our mountain lodge home.

The Bitterroot Valley grabbed us with its stunning grandeur, access to millions of acres of National Forests, friendly people and absolute wealth of outdoor activities. We drove the Rocky Mountains from New Mexico to Canada looking for our mountain home and this is what we chose. We love it dearly.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful home and great setting! Besides the ever present mule deer, I spotted a herd of elk grazing on the next hill facing the property! Must have been 40-50 at twilight! Renee was great, checking in a couple of times and the home was immaculate. I hated to leave.

Thanks,

Greg

VRBO Bear stayed here

Nov 21, 2016

I have to say, that being the VRBO bear has been a great life so far. I thank my lucky bear stars every day that I get to do what I do. This last trip up to the Bitterroot Valley, was really one for my bear record books! This Luxury Log Home with majestic views was one of the best homes I’ve ever stayed in. You know, being the VRBO bear isn’t always fun and games…It really takes a lot out of me. This time of year most bears start to feast and get ready to hibernate, but not me. It’s always go, go, go! It was really time for me to take a break both physically and mentally, and this log home really delivered! Ridlon and Carin, the owners of this home, have totally decked it out figuratively and quite literally. I spent most evenings in the hot tub, listening to soothing music pumped through the outdoor speakers, while sipping some beary tasty drinks. When I wasn’t enjoying the snow falling on me in the hot tub or staring at the stars above, I was in the house on what might be the most comfortable furniture I’ve ever rested my paws on. I loved just relaxing and listening to the sounds of the pinon wood popping in the fireplace. I know most bears like to forage in the woods for their food but I’m different. I enjoyed going to the recommended restaurants (yes VRBO bears are allowed) and to the grocery stores where I stocked up on food to cook in the luxurious, well-appointed gourmet kitchen. This house really had it all, and I could tell how much the owners care for the place. The owners are world travelers and have decorated the house with art from all over the globe. There is also a fantastic library, sure to impress bookworms from all walks of life. Overall, this was just what I needed. Peace, tranquility, solitude and a touch of adventure. Do yourself a favor and book this property. A magical and harmonious experience awaits you in the extraordinary Bitterroot Valley.

Beautiful cabin with amazing mountain views in the perfect location! Very cozy and comfortable home!

  • 5 of 5

We truly had an awesome time during our stay in this cabin! The views were amazing and it was located in the perfect spot with lots of privacy yet close enough to town and convenient. We enjoyed waking up each morning and watching the mule deer from the porch while we drank our coffee. We were lucky enough to have three big bucks lay under the tree out front for several hours while we watched them. We also really enjoyed the hot tub and were able to spend the evenings relaxing in it while taking in all the views. We also were able to spot a couple of golden eagles as well as grouse around the property. The kitchen had everything we needed to whip up meals when we didn't feel like going out. The beds were very comfortable and the master shower and tub were awesome extras. The fireplace was beautiful and the cabin decor was a lot of fun. We took advantage of the huge entertainment room upstairs and enjoyed the big screen tv at night. The little town of Darby nearby was so much fun to explore and had lots of good restaurants and an awesome candy store with any kind of candy you can imagine. The antique and art gallery had lots of fun gifts to bring home. Overall we had an amazing time and really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. It felt like home and was very cozy and comfortable. We are really looking forward to coming back in the near future and bringing our kids to experience this cabin and all it has to offer!

Beautiful Cabin in a Remote Location

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is stunning and clean. The furniture is high-end and comfortable. Be prepared to travel up dirt roads for approximately 8 miles but the view is not disappointing. If you're looking for wildlife, beautiful stars at night, quiet times, and rest then this is the place for you. Everything you need for cooking is available. Wine and light conversation at night on the front or back decks are worth the investment. The advertising paraphernalia came up short on the wine bottle and welcome kit but otherwise the cabin is as advertised. Beautiful cabin, stunning views. I gave it four stars versus five as a result of an email I received 1/2 way through my stay that strangely discussed inappropriate stays by previous guests- While I understand his concerns, I though it was pretty tacky. In reviewing all that is available in the area, this is by far your best choice. Enjoy!

Beautiful cabin with great views!

  • 5 of 5

Just what we wanted...peaceful, serene and private. We saw deer each morning and evening and watched the stars from the hot tub. The furnishings were high end and so comfortable inside and out with interesting artifacts in every room. What a wonderful place to get away from it all. We would definitely return!

Getting Away From It All

  • 5 of 5

It was so refreshing to stay at this lovely, and comfortable house. This was the place to be to beat the Dallas & Houston, Texas summer heat, and the city noise/traffic! We enjoyed our meals outside on the deck watching the deer. Thanks to a fully equipped kitchen, we were able to prepare all meals at the house. Not sure about recycling in Darby, but would have liked recycling bins for bottles, cans, plastics, and paper. Also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds at the feeder, and saw a moose on Rye Creek road. Beds are comfortable, a little tall, but manageable. The theater room upstairs was terrific! Great surround sound! It was convenient having a washer & dryer for dirty clothes from hiking and rafting (remember to clean the dryer lint filter folks.) We also enjoyed spending the cool evenings in the hot tub with a glass of wine. :) It's nice and quite at night, and the sky is FULL of stars! It is a very relaxing place sure to please everyone! Thank you for the delicious bottle of Chilean chardonnay! Cheers!

Gorgeous sunrise and sunsets!!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home!! Views from both decks were just breathtaking! We had 7 people in our family including 2 children and were very comfortable in this 3 level home. The beds in each room were so comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. Everything you need is provided in this beautiful home including extra blankets for those cold crisp mornings. We enjoyed movie nights in the home after traveling during the day to surrounding towns of Darby and Hamilton. The only issue we had was attempting to drive our 36 ft Motorhome up the steep drive! (When I say we I mean my husband because he was the only one attempting the hill) the rest of us got out and walked all the way to the top! Thankfully we were able to find a car service that drove out to pick us up and take us to our car rental in Hamilton!! Thank you Ridlon and Carrin for sharing your beautiful home w us.
