We are located on the lush, tropical side of the big island, just two miles north of the historic whaling town of Hilo. Our home is in a small, upscale neighborhood in the country and borders the old coastal road that winds past streams, waterfalls, and vine-covered bridges.
Honolii Beach is just a short walk down our one-lane road and has a beautiful picnic area with lifeguards, showers, and bathrooms. Honolii is very popular and has consistent waves year-round for surfers and boogie boarders. The freshwater river that empties into the bay has a huge swimming hole and two beautiful waterfalls just upstream.
Hiking, jogging, bikeriding, surfing, swimming, or just kicking back are activities you can do from the vacation cottage without driving anywhere. Our convenient location also makes it simple to visit the many scenic areas around the island.
And remember, one of the friendliest beaches on this side of the island is just a short stroll down the road

Stay here and discover aloha.
I teach biology at the University of Hawaii and this is my only rental. It is very important to me that my guests enjoy their stay at my cottage and experience the aloha that I have found on this island.
terre hawkins purchased this cottage in 2002
As owner of the property, I take a personal interest in our guests and the quality of their vacation time in Hilo. The best advertising I have is "word of mouth" from happy guests that have stayed in our only vacation rental.
Thank you.

Great studio. Everything you need, great ambiance, great location. Charming owner. Fabulous!
The place was plenty big for 2 people, and was comfortable and clean. The location was wonderful, at the end of a quiet street and an easy walk to a nice beach where you can watch the waves and the surfers. Terre was a good host and even suggested a wonderful restaurant to visit, which we did (Pineapples, which was wonderful). The front porch is nice but be aware of the mosquitoes! The place is also a 5 minute drive to downtown Hilo and easy drive to the waterfalls in the area and the Botanical Garden, which were all very nice.
Terre's studio is convenient to Hilo and beaches and she is a wealth of information about the area. The studio is perfectly adequate in size- great (NEW) king size bed; we enjoyed coffee on the front porch with Terre's cat visiting! My suggestions are to include some beach towels (snorkel equipment much appreciated!!) and more amenities in the kitchenette: we found only one wine glass! Otherwise, a lovely host and we loved Hilo: hope to return!!
This is a small, comfy studio home, like a guest house. It accommodated my two teenage daughters and I for a couple days while we were in Hilo. It sits a street above the popular surfing beach Honoli'i beach park, which is a small, rocky beach. Sunrises from this spot were amazing! House was true to it's description and photos. Clean, comfortable, accommodating. Terre was a complete sweetheart! True aloha spirit! Gave us a tip to visit Richardson beach to do some snorkeling, which is about 20 minutes away and was a great first beach for us to visit.
Friendly, hospitable host, good location in Hilo. Accommodations were comfortable and perfectly adequate. Would return
This place was perfect for me. It is tranquil & homey. The sound of the frogs at night was like a lullaby. Loved it!
My vacation rental is located about two miles up the Hamakua Coast , just outside of Hilo town. Our close proximity to Hilo is very convenient for enjoying the amenities the east side of the island has to offer. Honolii Beach is a five-minute walk away and there are multiple attractions within a 15 minute drive such as Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, and Hawaii Botanical Gardens. Volcano National Park is only 45 minutes away and the cowboy town of Waimea is approximately one hour up the Hamakua Coast.
Other Activities: Kicking back and having a good time

This is my only rental. There is no cleaning fee and the only extra charge is tax, as I am licensed by the city. I do the cleaning and maintenance and my rates are continuous year-round. A one-day reservation requires payment-in-full.
