About the property

7 BR, 5.5 Baths, spacious living room, dining room, 4 screen porches (Sleeps 15)

Our grandparents built this incredible blufftop home in Lakeside in the late 1920’s, and we’ve just re-worked the kitchen, retaining the house’s charm while accommodating modern lifestyles.

Our home, just steps from a private beach, sleeps 15 comfortably. On the property, just through a stretch of peaceful woods on our family compound, are a tennis court and playground and bushes with blueberries for the picking.

The kitchen was fully renovated last spring and includes brand-new appliances, two refrigerators, and eat-in amenities, as well as a view of the lake and a sitting area/playroom so the cook will never be lonely.

There are four eating areas: a porch overlooking the lake, perfect for adult dinners; a dining room with a view of the lake, in case the weather is chilly or rainy; a big table in the kitchen for cozy family dinners; and a big eating porch overlooking the woods.

Downstairs, there is an all-new bedroom/bathroom suite with its own bathroom with roll-in shower stall, that also overlooks the lake. Upstairs are six bedrooms:

• The Master suite has a panoramic picture window with a beach view and a queen-size bed.

• Another lake view suite has a separate dressing room and bath, and two twin beds that we usually put together as a king bed.

• A third bedroom overlooking Lake Michigan has bunk beds.

* A fourth bedroom with queen bed and private bath overlooks the lake from the ground floor, off the kitchen.

• Two upstairs bedrooms overlooking the woods have queen beds, and one last woods-view bedroom has four single beds.

All bedrooms are air-conditioned and have ceiling fans, as well.

The living room is huge and well appointed, with a fireplace should nights turn chilly. Just off the living room is another porch overlooking the beach— a perfect spot to enjoy cocktails and nibbles before dinner.

The beach is down some wooden stairs. There’s a cabana about halfway down for beach toys, towels, and umbrellas.

This home is available for rental for periods of one week or more. We cannot rent for less than a full week.

About Carroll Bogert

We are siblings who spent summers in this house as kids. Our grandparents built the place in the late 20's (adding onto it several times). We are blessed to have inherited it from our mother several years ago.

Carroll Bogert purchased this house in 1927

What makes this house unique

The beach is marvelous. The water warms up nicely in late June, July, and August. There's generally a sandbar just offshore, which makes for a great toddler play area. The sand is fine and soft and, for unknown reasons, 'barks' when you drag your feet through it. After a storm, waves get big enough for wonderful body-surfing. There are ravines nearby where kids can build dams and chase tadpoles. The house itself sits on a 13-acre compound with five houses on it, all owned by relatives. There are woods with oaks, maples, sassafras, and lindens and loads of songbirds, a meadow full of wildflowers, a tree house, playground set, and tennis court. The house is made for entertaining. The breakfast porch lets you start your day with a symphony of songbirds in the forest. The dining porch is cooled by lake breezes and affords great views of the lake. Same for the 'cocktail porch' upstairs. The area is a bikers' mecca, and filled with antique stores and boutiques. The Warren Dunes State Park, featuring the giant 'Tower Hill' sand dune, is five miles up the road, as is 'Capt. Mike's', an amusement area with mini-golf, go-karts, bumper boats, batting cages and other kid-friendly diversions.
