We are located in Monticello Florida, just four blocks from the center of town and the historic 1910 county seat building and 1890's Perkins Opera House. Our home is sitting on over an acre of land and is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Welcome, kick back, relax and enjoy your stay. Monticello is the largest population center in Jefferson County. Activities include hiking, kayaking, biking, and antiquing at the local shops.
Florida State University is only a thirty five minute drive making the Monticello area a favorite of Seminole boosters during football and basketball season.
The Jefferson County Kennel Club is just a few miles north of town. The Jefferson County Public Library is located just three blocks west of the courthouse.
Take a step back in time. Welcome to Monticello Florida, a small North Florida town that will entice you with Southern hospitality so often missing in today's world. Monticello, Florida traces its roots back to 1827, when Jefferson county broke off from Leon, the future State Capital. A true town of the old South with a total citywide population of only 2,700 souls. This is the Florida of rolling hills, live oaks, and dripping, whispy, Spanish moss.
Historically, the City of Monticello has no equal in Northern Florida. Nestled among the tree lined streets of Monticello are many antebellum homes which provide a unique look and feel to the city. Please feel free to enter our image gallery to see over a hundred pictures of the area's homes and buildings.
During the Depression of the 1930s, many of the residents of Monticello could not afford to build new homes and the 19th century houses were renovated or restored. Today, these homes offer tourists a rare glimpse of the original architectural styles which prevailed in the South prior to the Civil War.
